My Little Big Girl
|
Since my second daughter, Maia, was born it has really hit home how grown up my first daughter, Jade, has become. My little girl is so independent -- sometimes *too* much so! -- and can do so many things that Maia can't. When did this happen? Yeah, I remember Jade learning to walk and talk, but when did she develop the ability to make up lyrics and tunes to make a song (she made up a song for each member of the family during a car trip - very cute!)? When did she learn to dress herself, bargain and argue with us? When did she learn to be so affectionate and caring towards her little sister (to whom she had to give a very long hug and a kiss on each cheek before leaving for daycare today)? When did she learn to make jokes and acquire the desire to make us laugh? When did she become so incredibly stubborn about doing everything herself? Having Maia around reminds me of all the little baby things that I used to enjoy and cherish about Jade as a baby. The smell of milk-breath; her falling asleep on my chest or in my arms; her toothless grin; her chubby arms and legs; the soft cooing sounds she would make at me; the grunts and sighs she would make while nursing; even the soft wahs she would make to let you know she wasn't completely happy. I'm going to really miss these things once Maia leaves this wonderful baby stage. Sigh.
