Toddlers Today's MomsTalk Archive Hi Everyone, it's Judy!! Good morning everyone. Today is E's 3rd day at KinderCare. I like how they give you the written paper of their day. What he ate, his nap, his diaper duty. David took him this morning and we'll both go to pick him up at the end of the day. E's been coming home happy and jabbering so much. He's trying to say something that starts with a B but I can't tell what it is yet. He was asleep a little before 8:00 last night. Wow!! And he slept the whole night through. Well, I've only got about 2 months left until I go on maternity leave. I'll be so glad to be away from work. The atmosphere around here is depressing. My group is demotivated. I keep telling myself I only have to hang in for 2 months. No one else knows I'll be leaving in the Spring. None of us really know if our department will be eliminated or reduced or left alone. It's hard not knowing. I keep thinking more and more how I need to get a copy of Quark so I can start developing marketing materials for DH's real estate and home improvement business. Maybe I can make some money at it and enjoy it too. I've been so used to truly enjoying my job for the last 6 years and now I don't anymore. Long vent. Sorry. Here are some personals: Cathy G. - I hope the 5+ hour drive goes well. You should do well with the Treasurer's job. Is there any chance that Allison will sleep while you're getting your hair done? If she's anything like Elijah, then the answer would definitely be no!! Kelli and Elizabeth - Thanx for the info on the 15 and 18 month visits. I'll call my peds office today to find out about it. I also do what Becky does with the toys. I'll put some away for awhile and bring them back out weeks later. I do it with his tubby toys also. I just read your post about Elizabeth getting hurt. I know how bad you feel. It tears me apart to see Elijah hurt, like that last day at Mary's when her boys wouldn't talk or play with him. The good thing is that they're so young, that they bounce back. You're a good mommy and DH is a good daddy. We parents are human and make mistakes. Becky and Harley - Elijah is teething his molars too. He's popped one on the top but he's still working on the others. All he wanted last night for dinner was applesauce. He ate so much of it, I'm afraid the teachers at daycare are in for it!! It's those special, funny moments like Harley's dog imitation that I wish we could capture on video. Toddler's are so cute and funny. You just never know what they'll do next. Patty and Jarin - Congratulations on a good first day at school. Hopefully that will set the pace for the days and weeks to come. I hope yours and Jarin's adjustment continues to go smoothly. Judy and Elijah (16 months) email: jhintz@manu.com Wednesday, September 01, 1999 at 05:59:01 (MDT)) Good morning everyone. Colton is so active when I bring him to the dr's office. He opened & closed the cuboard doors over and over again for almost 10 minutes while we waited. The dr said that his lungs sound great and since he does not have a temp and is not getting sicker or worse then he thinks his cough is probably from allergies. Plus he usually has a runny nose w/ the cough. He prescribed Triotann. I am to give it to him twice a day for about 3 wks and really watch to see if it makes any difference. Last night he had his first dose at 8:00 pm. I was putting him to bed later than usual because he fell asleep in the car on the way home and slept from 6:30 to 7:30! We really played hard for about 15 min. When I finally had him settled down and just about asleep he threw up everywhere. It was all over him, me, the rocking chair and the floor. I noticed that he swallows most of his food and doesn't chew them very much because their were chunks everywhere. (Sorry if this is gross) Should I try mashing his food until he has more than his 4 teeth? I cut everything in really small pieces right now. I also have decided to stop his formula. I changed from Enfamil to Carnation when he was about 6 mo and wonder if that may be part of the problem. I am kind of mad at myself for not insisting on having the x-ray instead of trying the allergy medicine first. I will see how the next few days go. I was planning on throwing a baby shower for a friend who used to work with me tonight. It was a surprise. I had arranged for her to meet with me and another friend at a restaurant. I have about 10 other people planning on coming. One of them e-mailed me saying she heard Laura had her baby early last week. I will wait another hour to call her, but I doubt that she will be coming now. I have a cake ordered and all the people to call back. I am not sure what we will do now! Judy: I am so happy to hear that Elijah is adjusting to daycare so well. Colton gets a report too and I like that. My dr told me I had the choice of having the MWR shot at Colton's 1 yr or 15 mo check-up. I chose the 1-yr. They said I didn't have to come in for the 15 mo unless I wanted to. Since I had just switched dr's I thought it would be best to have one then too. Missy: I hope Dusty feels better soon. I am sorry to hear how your dh betrayed you. I will be praying for you two to work things out. Rita: AF sure can be mean sometimes. Hope she eases up on you soon. Beth: I hope Allison feels better soon. Judy: Yeah for the mortgage approval. CathyG: Have fun at the hardressers--hopefully Alison will be good for you. I think Colton would last about 10 min at max. Lots of luck with your roadtrip. Kelli: Colton loves to play with toys that are shapes that fit in their own slot. He also loves to open & close jar tops from peanut butter or OJ jugs. I am glad that Elizabeth is OK after her run-in with the scooter. Wow can she eat! Becky: Too cute about Harley barking. I always hate it when I miss a moment like that. However, I know it makes DH feel good to have some great stories to tell me once in a while. I would love to see the pictures. Have a safe trip. Patty: Sounds like your first day went really well. Good luck with the little trouble makers! Colton loves to run his hands through my hair too when he is sleepy. Have a great day everyone & sorry for such a long post. Julianne & Colton 13 mo email: jjones@batts.com Wednesday, September 01, 1999 at 07:32:22 (MDT)) Hi there! I've been lurking around most of the past few days. So glad to see everyone mellowed out again! :) I haven't had much time to post, as well as read, in fact I'm only caught up to Tuesday's posts. Missy- I felt like I should tell you about my experience w/ my DUMB****Hubby (fill in with your favorite 4-letter word... new meaning for "dh"!!) You're not alone. We are living with my parents, for all sorts of irritating reasons, that I often blame dh for anyway. (Which made it seem even worse to me.) Well, I was sending an attachment a week or two ago on an e mail, and while I was browsing for my file, I came across about 50+ gif files with all sorts of lovely names like "bitch 1, 2," and so on. Honestly, magazines never have bothered me. I just don't care, but there was something about all the crazy junk available on the internet that sent me through the roof. I deleted all his files and then confronted him. Like your situation, he's promised "never again." I'm just on a 'wait and see' sort of outlook. Men are such punks!! Missy, I wish you the best! Have to go now, best wishes!! Sarah g email: gat_men@hotmail.com Wednesday, September 01, 1999 at 10:24:10 (MDT)) Hello all from Helen & Amanda!!! HOLY HORMONES!!!! Thank goodness its over- this episode anyway!! I agree with both statements- both went overboard on their own opinions, glad its over!! Amanda's new word-- giggle-giggle-giggle, over and over, of course its not what she is saying, but her tongue is very busy saying it anyway!! PATTI/JARIN- Welcome here- happy birthday!! Glad school is going well. CRYSTAL- Glad Darryl is standing for you and eating better- Amanda is getting her appetite back and eating a variety of foods finally! Now you can relax!! :o) BECKY/HARLEY- Amanda likes to 'help' me vacuum, holding on- takes forever!! MISSY- Add me to the list of DH's( Dick-Heads!!) that has done the same thing. Two years ago, I found letters that he had sent to the PO box for work, piled in the office in his briefcase all addressed to him, wanting to meet, disgusting photos, some copies, some actual 'spread shots'!!! I got on the computer and looked in the history folder and he had been on the smut sites for about 3mos, was always when I was out or working, My head was pounding like my heart was in it- I was in shock!!! This doesn't happen to normal people!!! He had written and they wrote back, never met though, I confronted him, yelled a lot, cried for months on and off, made him feel as bad as I could, its the least he could do!! He gave me the key to the PO box and for about 3mos I was getting his mail, from smut ads in magazines, and one letter he sent with his photo, returned- it was filthy to say the least, this was not the person I married. I was humiliated, hurt, embarrased that the postal people know what was comming to the PO box- we live in a small town. Then I went through the 'I'm not what he really wants' stage and felt like he settled for me. I've followed him, quizzed him, you name it but no evidence that he actually 'did' anything. He said he did it to get photos, and he showed a couple guys them which leads me to beleive it is true. Things are better now but its the worst feeling to have- betrayed by the one you trusted!! I still have it in the back of my mind, but its better now. It may take a long time to get over this, and its normal- sorry it has happened to you, I wouldn't wish it on anyone!! Only the 2 guys and their wives know this- I was too emberrassed to tell anyone, glad you shared it, gave me an outlet- I'm not the only one. :o( On a happier note- Amanda was chasing the dog around the house with her bubble mower and laughing- the dog is scared of it- so cute!! She was up last night and I think it must be her teeth- 2 comming through. LATER!!! Helen&Amanda@ 13mos yesterday!! (#3) Wednesday, September 01, 1999 at 12:34:06 (MDT)) Alright yall have got me jittery, how do I check the history! I am sorry about the other day, but it seems like EVERYTHING is going wrong!!!!!I dont have much time to post, so I am making it short. I have three days left till the wedding. OH MAN, this is too much. I feel so overloaded right now! I have to run, nail appointment, I love you and miss you all. Kahne and Cat 8 months email: skcx2@fnbop.com Wednesday, September 01, 1999 at 12:54:46 (MDT)) Slow around here today. Where is everyone? Hope all is well. Here is an update on Allison. As you all know, she has a double ear infection. The Dr. said that he doesn't think it is at all related to the shots as any reaction from the MMR doesn't usually show up until 7-10 days after the shots. So, all of you worried about the MMR shots can rest easy that it wasn't the cause of this illness. We may have to deal with a whole other set of symptoms in a few days, but we'll worry about that if it happens. I think my pounding headache the other night was due to not eating and the stress of dealing with a sick, crying baby. Missy - I'm like you, I don't mind DH looking at the pictures as most guys are into the "visual" aspect of sex, but if it were to ever go ANY further then I would be very hurt as well. I will be praying for you guys. Rita - Sorry AF hit with such a vengeance. Hopefully she won't be so nasty when she visits me on Saturday. Judy - where is this Cumberland that you are moving to?? I live in Kentucky and was wondering if it was here. Elijah sounds too cute with his jabbering away. I just love when Allison jabbers. Cathy G. - hope your long drive goes well. You're a braver woman than I! I wouldn't want to attempt it with 2 small children. Kelli - I too have cramps a couple of weeks before my period and I'm on the regular pill. I also usually get a little break thru bleeding at this time. I was told it was just an unpleasant side effect of the pill. Tried switching, but nothing really worked, so I just deal with it. Sorry about Elizabeth's accident. Don't you just feel awful when things like that happen. Allison fell out of the bed the other night when she was so sick as I had her sleeping with me since her fever was so high and DH was out of town. I felt HORRIBLE when it happened. Sick and then falling out of the bed, it must have been horrible for her. Becky - don't mean to discourage you, but it literally took 2 months or more from the time I noticed the molars until the broke through the skin. It was bad there for a while. Patty - glad school seems to be going so well. Hope you have a great class this year. I'm sure you'll keep those boys in line! Julianne - have you ever thought about the possibility that Colton might have asthma? Does the cough sound like a seal barking? I have a good friend with 2 daughters that both have asthma and she has described her daughters symptoms as being very similar to what you describe with Colton. With her first daughter they let it go for years until she had a severe attack, the recognized it right away with the second (she was only a couple days old when the barking cough started, so yes, it can start VERY young). It is worse right now for her daughters because it is getting to be ragweed season and they have both had flare up recently. This might be an avenue you want to look into. Crystal. - would love to see pics of Darrel. please send them my way. Well, thats all for now. May try to check in from home later tonight. Talk to you ladies later Beth and Allison (15 months) email: bobwite@msn.com Wednesday, September 01, 1999 at 12:58:41 (MDT)) Julianne, I've been talking with the lady whose daughter has asthma and she was giving me some advice to give you. First, she said that asthma is hereditary and can skip generations so look in your family history to see if anyone in your family has been asmatic (even aunts, greataunts, etc uncles too, of course!) or had severe allergies. She said that allergies cause the asthma to be worse, but they won't do official allergy tests until 2 years of age. The cough you described (smokers cough) is typical she said. Once her daughter started on allergy shots, she got 100% better. She said to have them treat both asthma and allergies together. If you have any questions about it e-mail me at work (beth.lane@Kyret.com) and I will ask her as she is a fountain of knowledge on the subject and may be able to help you with it some. Good luck. Hope he gets to feeling better soon. Beth Wednesday, September 01, 1999 at 13:18:15 (MDT)) Good afternoon from Rita. AF did allow me to make it into work today. I wish I knew when she was going to visit because I would have at least made some preparations for her. Things are so topsy-turvy post baby #2. Patty - It sounds like Jarin is doing really well at daycare. With the improvement in his sleeping and all of the other changes, I would say that your baby is growing up. Why can't they slow down a bit? I feel like Amy is racing toward becoming a toddler. Julianne - Well, now I have been bitten by the scrapbook bug. I have completed about five pages. The hardest thing is putting together back-dated pages. I really wish that I had started three years ago. There are no pictures of me PG with Maddy and things like that. This stuff is really addicting. But, since I have actually done some things, DH is okay with it. He gets more time on the computer in the evenings, now. Cathy G - Good luck on the drive. I have a hard enough time handling both girls just around the house, let alone taking them on a five hour trip! DH is going away in a couple weeks, so I'll get more practice. I might do some short excursions. Beth - Glad to hear that Alison is doing better. We went through several ear infections with Maddy. We took part in a double-blind vaccine study with her and I knew that we got the placebo, since she had four ear infections during that time period. Within in the next few years the vaccine will be approved. I even have one of those little lights to check the ears. So far, Amy has escaped Maddy's plight. Kelli - Sorry to hear about Elizabeth's mishap. :-( I feel so guilty about the time that Maddy rolled off of our bed at five months. DH swears that is why she has a fear of heights to this day. You will get used to bumps and bruises if Elizabeth is anything like Maddy was. As soon as she started walking at eleven months+, she always had some kind of bump or bruise. It was hard to get a picture without something on her face. Well, I had better check my e-mail. Take care ladies! Rita & Maddy email: ritad@home.com Wednesday, September 01, 1999 at 14:45:06 (MDT)) Crystal here. Well, it's finally cooled off here in Fort Worth. It feels wonderful outside. I may take Darrel out to play and for a walk later on. He loves his walks. Darrel hasn't stood up since that first day he did it on his own. I think he did it so that he won't have to go to the doctor. He hates the dr. Eveerytime I tell him that he has to go to the dr, things change. If he's been sick, he automatically gets better. I'm thinking that Darrel may have a touch of asthma because whenever he gets a cold, he starts wheezing. Darrel goes back to the dr. at 15 months, but he doesn't get any shots. He got three shots this time around. I started crying once Darrel was screaming. Well, Dh will be hhome in about 3 weeks. I'm excited, but the closer it gets to the 26, the more unhappy I get. I start missing him more and more. I just can't wait untiil he gets here so we can be a famiy again. Missy, Doug likes to go on the smut sittes, too. He especially likes the chat rooms. However, I told him that it's okay for him to go to the chat rooms, but if I find out that he's meeting with the ladies, e-mailing, sending pictures or letters, or anything, then I'm going to assume that he's doing more than just chatting in a chat room. Dh also likes to look at the magazines, and I'm okay wiith that because we do it together. Kahne, I'm sending you good luck and calm vibes for the wedding ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~. Well, I guess that's it for now. I'm going to be sending more pictures out tomorrow to thhose that have rrequested them. I don't like this moving thing. Even though we have movers doing the work, I still have all this other stuff to do. Yuck. Ok, I need some advise from you moms. Maddie has started biting Emilee. She has only bit her twice, but I know it hurt Emilee like heck. The first time (Monday night) Maddie was all excited and was play biting and then just chomped down on Emilee's fingers. Dh & I talked to her. We told her how bad it was to bite and never again to bite anyone. Well the next day she bite her again. This time dh spanked her little leg and sent her to her room. I was really mad at her, so I let dh handle her and I consoled Emilee. We don't know what to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Rita - I think we took Maddie out of her crib too soon. I didn't want to have two cribs, so we got a toddler bed for her. She didn't like it at first, we found her sleeping at the door, under the bed, everywhere but on the bed. Maybe that's why she won't stay out of the crib. AF is visiting here too, and she's not in a very good mood. Her visits are like her very first one's. Judy - Your mom calling you brought a tear to my eye. Thanks for the advise on the containers and storage. Kelli - I just wanted to tell you that I mailed your pictures to Beth on Monday. It sure did take a long time to get these around, but well worth it. Patty - Jarin sounds so cute with his icing. Glad things are going so well for you. Beth - I mailed your pictures to Megan on Tuesday. Hope you don't get sick. Sorry Allison is sick, hope she's better soon. CathyG - You are one brave woman, good luck with your drive. Becky - Oh my gosh, I am so sorry. I missed Harley's 1st Birthday. Happy Belated Birthday Harley. Sorry, Sorry, Sorry. When was his birthday? I feel like such a dope. I love Shasta, I would like to live there someday. We drove through Fairfield several weeks ago on our way to Geyersville. Sorry we had no time to stop. I think it was about midnight when we drove through. Sorry again. Ok, I must go. Little Miss Emilee has decided to boycott her naps and is standing here in her playpen with her arms held up, do you think she want's me to pick her up? LOL Everyone have a great day and take care. Judy****Congrates on your house, I work in that business it all takes time. CathyG****Good luck on your trip, Maybe it won't be so crazy. Kelli****Your not a bad mom. I let Dusty slip in the tub, now he has a scar at the corner of his left eye, I feel bad everytime I see it. Julianne****Sorry about your party Sarah, Patty and Helen****I feel better knowing I am not the only one that has went through this,I hate that though I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Kahne****PLEASE don't think all men are like that. Mine is just having a moment of ignorance. LOL :) Beth**** Sorry about Allison, Dusty had a double ear infection about 2 months ago. Crystal*** Books used to be ok, but honest, If I found a porno mag right now, I would not be responsible for my actions. LOL :) Debbie*****When Dusty started biting, I bit him back, not hard, just enough to really feel it. I haven't had any trouble since. well DH is up I have to get him something to eat. post more later Love You All God Bless (I shore am glad I found you guys, Really) :) Missy & Dusty email: terrym@safeconnect.com Wednesday, September 01, 1999 at 19:23:29 (MDT)) Crystal here. Rita: I don't have experience with biters. Darrel bit me twice. I told him no biting, and that was it. However, I read about it in What to Expect..., and here are some suggestions that they gave: Give the child something to eat-sometimes toddlers bite because they are hungry-and tell Maddie that "We don't bite people" and tell her what "we" do bite(food, toys, etc.), separate the biter and the bitten but comfort the victim in front of the biter, don't allow even play bites (double standard and can cause confusion), encourage the child to use words instead of teeth, pay attention to good behavior(aggressive behavior such as biting normally occur in children who either feel that they aren't getting enough attention or who are seldom praised), and provide other "outlets" for anger, such as punching a pillow or biting a doll or stuffed animal. As I said, I don't really have experience with a biter, but I hope these tips help if she continues to bite. As you can see, there are a variety of reasons that a child bites, hits, etc. If Maddie is verbal, you may even try asking her why she bites Emilee and go from there. Now I have a question. No, it's not about gross motor skills. LOL. It's about pillows. When is it saffe for a child to start using a pillow, and what size is recommended for a small child? I've thought about getting a pillow for Darrel, but I'm not sure abut it. Also, how do you know when a toddler is ready for a tooddler bed, and at what age is it reccommended to take a child out of a crib? I know that Darrel's too young right now and that he's not ready. Darrel is all oveer the bed during the night and at naps. He'll fall out of a toddler bed right now. Well, that's it for now. I'll talk some more later. Crystal and Darrel 12 months email: cjeanmurphy@yahoo.com Wednesday, September 01, 1999 at 19:44:53 (MDT)) OOOps. I meant Debbie, not Rita. Sorry. Missy, I understand what you mean. Not a good time for mags. I didn't like them until I met DH. He's been a bad influence on me. LOL. But I love it. I used to be down right rigid, wouldn't even kiss a guy or show any kind of affection, besides a hug and holding hands occasionally, like once in a blue moon. And now llook at me. :0) In fact, dh was the third guy I kissed and the first that I made love with. I had sex with one other guy before dh, but it meant nothing to me. In fact, the next day, I hated myself. But I was also engaged at the time. The day after, I decided that I couldn't handle a long distance relationship, that if I had a boyfriend, he had to be there in NC with me. A week later, I met Dh. Sometimes I would love to clobber him one, but I do love him, even if I can't stand some of the stuff he does, or rather, doesn't do. I'm gonna stop while I'm ahead. I've been without my other half for too long, and he'll be here within the next few weeks. Yesterday, we learned that she has a mucocele on her bottom lip which must be removed by an oral surgeon. It basically appears to be a "bump" on the inside of her bottom lip. The doctor watched it for awhile and expected it to go away. Was wondering if anyone else has had to deal with this problem. It is probably nothing, but anything out of the ordinary freaks me out. Tonya email: shays.tonya.s05@leg.state.fl.us Thursday, September 02, 1999 at 08:18:57 (MDT)) Hello mommies & babies from Julianne & Colton. Yesterday I was in a panic about what to do about the baby shower for my friend. She called to cancel and I told her it was actually a surprise baby shower for her. She decided to come. Her baby was actually 5 wks early and is still in the hospital so she has been driving most of this week already. I couldn't believe how good she looked after just 1 wk. Everyone had a great time. I felt really bad and even cried when she told me her birth story. Short version: water broke, sent to hospital, called DH next AM because cramping hard, drs told her to let him know baby should come in afternoon, nurse finally checked her after she threw up, rushed to delivery, too late for drugs, dh missed birth by an hour because he was packing the bag and showering. DH had a good time watching Colton. He said he was starving when they came inside. Colton ran to his highchair where there was some Cheerios and started shoving them in his mouth. He ate almost everything on his plate. His appetite is really getting better. He may be having a hard time with the allergy medicine. Both last night and the night before he seemed to have bad stomach pains. Would keep waking up and crying. He would kick out his legs when I picked him up and not seem to be able to get comfortable. Finally he went down around midnight and slept the whole night. I am going to call the pharmicist to discuss the medication. DH was really upset with me and his dr last night. It gets so frustrating sometimes wondering if I am doing the right things or not. Helen: Too cute about Amanda, the bubble mower, and the dog. Colton loves his and says "vroom vroom" when he is pushing it. He gets mad when it gets stuck in the grass though! Kahne: I am wishing you the best of luck this week as the countdown to your wedding gets closer. I was a mess at my rehersal but calm as could be on the actual day! Beth: Thanks for the e-mail about the asthma info. Rita: 5 pgs--Good job. Yes, scrapbooking is addicting. Crystal: Wow, only 3 more weeks before DH comes home. I am sure it will go fast. I would love to receive more of Darrel's pictures. I gave Colton a pillow just like what we use when he was about 11 mo old since he is so congested at night. Julianne & Colton 13 mo email: jjones@batts.com Thursday, September 02, 1999 at 08:22:23 (MDT)) Hi from LisaB. I stayed home yesterday with Max. He had a slight rash on his neck and shoulder Tuesday night. I called the doc who suggested keeping him home for a day as he got his Chickenpox vaccination Monday - slight chance he had mild chickenpox and very remote chance he could infect the 5-month old at daycare. The rash faded a lot yesterday and he got the "all clear" to go back to daycare this morning. Max was also very fussy yesterday afternoon. He would sleep for awhile then wake up screaming. Once nothing I tried would console him. Thankfully one molar FINALLY popped thru the surface and he's happier now ... just 3 more to go! KELLY/PATTY: Wanna chance toddlers for awhile? Max is breaking my back he's so heavy! BETH: DH was gone all last week and 2 nights this week so I know how hard it is. I generally drive thru for dinner (bad for the figure but otherwise I don't get to eat until late as I have a hour commute home). I hope Allison's ears are better soon, the poor little angel. BTW - I noticed that an e-mail you sent me was forwarded from an Effie. Is that by any chance Noah's mom who used to post on BT? I've been wondering how she was doing. JULIANNE: I hope Colton feels better soon. If not, I would insist on the chest x-ray. You know your child better than any doctor does and you know what's normal and what isn't for him. BECKY: I would love a picture of Harley! Bark! Bark! HOW funny!!!!! KELLI: I'm glad Elizabeth survived her accident. Don't beat yourself up over it. We all know you and Rob are great parents and it sounds like Elizabeth was a real trooper thru the experience. PATTY: I'm so glad to hear school is going well. I still nurse Max to sleep at night also but ocassionally he'll nurse and then just lay on me and then fall asleep. DH is pushing me hard to wean him as he's starting to feel funny about his "big boy" nursing - esp. since Max got on the floor yesterday after nursing and, before I got myself covered back up, latched back on and started nursing standing up. I must admit I also found it a little unsettling! When do you plan to start weaning Jarin? MISSY: I'm sooo sorry to hear about your situation. My DH also likes to look at those smut pictures from time to time. I think it's just a guy thing - I don't have any overwhelming desire to look at other men - but I'm accepted his desire. If it ever went beyond looking, however, I would have a REAL problem with it. I view chatrooms, e-mails, letters, etc. like a slippery slope - once you start doing that it's so easy to keep going to the next step until you're actually meeting someone, considering an affair, etc. I've never been in your situation but this is what I would do - move the computer to where it's in a central location, let DH know you are going to be monitoring the history, and set up some way for you to get all the incoming postal mail. I would also point blank ask DH WHY he did this (although you've probably already did this). Maybe he's just feeling neglected sexually as you are so busy with Dusty. If so, resolving that problem might help him resist this "temptation". Maybe you can leave Dusty with a sitter once a week or so and have a date - a movie or just plain old uninterrupted sex at home. Best of luck and you are in my prayers. I'm really sadden to see how many of our friends have been affected by this (and almost glad our internet STILL isn't working at home so I don't have to worry about my DH). JUDY: Congrats! Are you buying or building a house? Max got his shots at 12 months but goes back in at 15 months for a general check-up - height, weight, physical exam, etc. CATHY G: Organizing photos suck, doesn't it? I started about 2 years ago but between having Max and moving I haven't finished. I'm cross-referencing the negatives and photos plus making tons of reprints for family which is really delaying the process. CRYSTAL: 3 weeks - YEAH! So, do you have a sitter for the first day back so you and DH can attack each other - LOL?!!! Or maybe the second day, so Doug and Darrel have time to reconnect first? Any idea on how long it'll be before you 3 can get a place of your own? It'll probably be a little hard on Darrel as he's so used to living with your parents. Please send me more pictures! LisaB & Max (12 months) email: lisa_lab@hotmail.com Thursday, September 02, 1999 at 08:26:33 (MDT)) Good afternoon ladies! SARAH here. I can't believe my baby's gonna be 1 in 2 days!!! I'm taking tomorrow off to get ready for the party, shop, bake cakes, etc. I just wanted to check in and say hi to everyone. I'm SWAMPED at work so I'd better go. I'll pop in tomorrow to say hi and tell you all how it's going. love you gals! Sarah and Hannah (1 in 2 days!!!) email: smoore@geatoir.cfer.com Thursday, September 02, 1999 at 13:25:44 (MDT)) Hi Mommies, it's an unmotivated Judy today. I had a doc appt this morning so I'm working from home the rest of today. I'm having a hard time with the slow work situation. Elijah started to cry as we pulled into the parking lot of KinderCare this morning. I think he recognized where I was taking him. He cried hard when the teacher took him from me. I left quickly. I went back about 9:30 to observe him. The kids were outside playing so I got to watch him for the first time without him knowing I was there. It was interesting to watch him make decisions about where to go and what to play on. The teachers were very attentive to him. Moreso than the other children. Maybe because it's his first week and he's still getting adjusted. He didn't look like he was having such a good time. The only time he smiled was when he went down the slide. I think it's so important for him to be around other toddlers. I'm hoping it will help with his adjustment to a little brother in 2 months. Helen - Thanx for the info on checking history. I just looked at mine and found the typical url's I always visit. I hate to do it, but I'm going to check DH's computer too. I hope I don't find anything. It's so upsetting to know that so many of our DH's are participating in that stuff, especially if we don't want them to. Here are some personals before I go pick up E: Beth and Allison - We're moving to Cumberland, MD. It's western Maryland (near the "hook" part of the state). Is Allison saying any words that are not jabber? Elijah comprehends a lot but the poor little guy can't verbalize what he wants and can get so frustrated. I ask him to point to what he wants but he doesn't quite have that concept yet. Debbie and Maddie - I've had a similar problem with Elijah. He doesn't have any siblings yet but he bit a kid at Gymboree while struggling over a ball. Can you believe it at age 15 months? I was stunned at the aggression and was very upset. I was firm with him saying NO, THAT'S NOT NICE. I used my voice and my face to get my point across to him. I've been told by several experienced moms and babysitters that it's just a phase that they ALL go through and to continue to be immediately firm with him. Lisa B. and Max - We're buying a house. It's 3 levels with an unfinished basement. It was built in 1914. That says a lot about the house right there!! But it's in good condition and has a wrap-around porch on 2 sides. We'll have to get a railing put up before we move in. It's roomy inside with high ceilings and plenty of storage space in the hallways. It's currently a 4-unit apartment house with one lady living there. David is good at home improvements and has his contractor's license so he'll be able to rearrange the electrical and plumbing the way we want it. I'm so excited about it. Judy and Elijah (16 months) email: jhintz@manu.com Thursday, September 02, 1999 at 14:25:13 (MDT)) Crystal and Darrel here. We're doing very well. Darrel is boycotting naps completely. However, I put him in his crib once or twice a day for rest time when he gets real cranky. After about an hour, he's back to his normal, happy self. Sometimes he'll go to sleep, but mostly he just plays. He's one of those children who need some time alone. He plays with other children just fine, but he still needs to have "Darrel time". Which is fine. I take my "mommy time" when Darrel takes his time. As long as he's happy, that's what matters to me. But I think giving Darrel some time to be alone in his crib when he's overstimulated it teaches him that he has to take some time out for himself everyday and just relax so he doesn't get very stressed out. LisaB: I'm giving Doug his first day back to relax and sleep if needed because I'm sure he's going to be tired and that his back will be sore. The second day, we're just going to sit at home and relax and we're all going to get to know each other again. The third day, however, I'm going to convince a friend to take Darrel for a few hours. Dh and I are going out for lunch and then we're going to do what we've been waiting 6 months to do. That answer your question? I've started looking for a place, but we really can't do anything yet. My parents will allow us to stay here until we can get on our feet because right now, we're basically starting over. Well, that's all for now. Talk some more later. Crystal and Darrel 12 months email: cjeanmurphy@yahoo.com Thursday, September 02, 1999 at 14:54:16 (MDT)) Hello from Rita Just a quick one since I am heading home after this to catch a little mommy time before I pick up the girls. Oh, the benefits of living next door to your caregiver! Missy - You would also have to add my DH to the list, as well. I know more about our browser than he does and I discovered a few interesting titles in the history once upon a time. He doesn't think that looking is wrong or bad in and of itself, but has stopped because of the way that I feel about it. Now that we have two girls, he has a different view of this exploitation of the female form. Judy - Cumberland is beautiful! I stopped there on a trip across the US I took a few years ago. I took some nice shots of some beautiful old building and churches there. I can imagine how it was in the heyday of the coal industry. Debbie - Are you sure that Maddie doesn't just want to be with Emilee? Maddy was never able to climb out of her crib, so she hasn't figured how to get into Amy's yet. She stopped climbing out of bed and sleeping by the door once Amy was in her room. Don't know what to say about the biting. I know that you should have her see how you have to care for Emilee's hurts when she bites her, so that she can learn empathy and see how it hurts. Of course, I am sure that our Maddy will come up with some great behavior once she gets into a group of her peers. As queen of the daycare, there is no one to challenge her. Well, gotta go. Take care everyone! Rita & Maddy email: ritad@home.com Thursday, September 02, 1999 at 16:14:10 (MDT)) Hi moms, it's Megan and Benjamin sneeking over from BT. Actually, I hardly ever get a chance to post on BT anymore. I was thinking about moving over here two months early because I miss all of my old friends and you guys can help me with the last two months before toddlerhood! Benjamin is such a monkey these days! He will not hold still for a minute. The worst is on the changing table. He is always trying to get on his tummy. Not the nicest thing when you are changing a poopy diaper! He is still just doing the army man crawl but is very fast. He is starting to attempt to pull up on things and loves to stand if we place him in the position and let him hold on to something. He has such strong legs I know he will be walking soon if he can just learn to pull up. Still no teeth for my little guy. Every time we think he is teething, nothing comes of it. Do any of you give your babies vitamins? I was thinking about starting them but I'm not sure what kind to buy. Well, I think Ben is waking up from his nap so I better leave with just one or two personals. Judy- If you are moving into a house that was built in 1914, you need to be very careful about LEAD POISONING. The paint will be lead based since it is that old and can be a serious threat to Elijah. Even if the paint is not chipping off, he can still inhale lead dust from opening up windows and the soil around your home may also contain lead. You need to make sure when you do ANY REMODELING that you take proper precautions. Get in touch with someone in your city that can help you. If your home or soil are found to have high levels of lead, they will need to come in to help you remove it properly and safely. There are also problems with the plumbing in older homes. The solder that holds the pipes together used to be made of lead and can leach lead into your water supply. You may need to replace all of the plumbing. There has been a big awareness campaign in Utah about this problem because there are many old historic homes in the Salt Lake City area and many children have been found to have high levels of lead in their blood. Lead poisoning can lead to brain damage and even death. Go to the Environmental Protection Agency's web site to find out more info as well. Please take this issue seriously. Lisa B.- I saw the report on the Mozart effect. The problem is, there are some studies which have shown positive results while others have not. By the time one is a college student, your brain is pretty much hard wired. Babies on the other hand make neural connections like crazy! Classical music may benefit them in many ways besides making them smarter. It can relax them (as well as adults) lowering stress hormones in the blood. It can also teach them to "listen". Classical music is complex and if babies start listening early, as adults they will enjoy the music all the more and may have an easier time playing a musical instrument. No matter what the research says, Benjamin and I love listening to classical music, particularly Mozart who's music is amazing. Did you see the movie "Amadeus"? It is very entertaining and won the Oscar for best picture that year. I'm sorry I missed wishing that sweet MOB a happy b-day! HAPPY LATE BITHDAY TO MAX! Ben is just around the corner. Well, Ben fell back asleep. I hope this late nap doesn't mess up sleeping tonight! Send me pics of your babies please! If anyone wants to see Ben who hasn't, email me. Have a wonderful weekend! Megan and Benjamin (10 months) email: dtandmm@slkc.uswest.net Thursday, September 02, 1999 at 18:07:18 (MDT)) Hi mommies. Only one more day and I get three days off!! Two weeks at work and I'm already needing a vacation. Am I pathetic or what? I had to drop Jarin off at the sitter's today. he cried when I was leaving - totally broke my heart. But I stood outside where he couldn't see me and he cried for all of 30 seconds before he stopped. When I went to pick him up, he was asleep on the couch. what a little angel he is. My babysitter said that everyone who comes comments on how cute he is. =) Not that I think so or anything. LOL School is going pretty well. I'm actually amazed at how well -something has to go wrong soon. LOL My question of the day: I know LisaB is still nursing only at night, but is anyone else still nursing? Jarin still nurses in the morning, at naptime, after naptime, at night, and sometimes one other time. **LisaB: Weaning? I don't know. Jarin really seems to have no desire to stop nursing. He also does the latch back on while he's moving all over the place. Glad Max finally got one molar through! **Kelli: I'm sorry to hear that Elizabeth had a little accident. I'm sure you guys felt terrible. I feel awful every time Jarin gets hurt too, like I should've done something different so he woulndn't get hurt. Jarin also loves to brush his hair. So cute. A Carters outlet five minutes away? Ok, I'd be broke. I also hope school continues to go well for the rest of the year. **Judy: Hang in there - only 2 months. I'm sorry your work is depressing you. I'm sure you'll be glad when you get to be home. E sounds so cute jabbering away. I hope he gets happier at Kindercare. **Julianne: I hope that Colton's allergy medicine works. My daughter has asthma so I also know all about that. **Helen: I could've written your paragraph to Missy. That is exactly how I felt! Amanda is so cute with the bubble mower. **Kahne: Good luck with the wedding!!!!!!!!! **Beth: Yes, I seem to have a good class - hope they continue! **Rita: Yes, my baby is definitely growing up way too fast. I wish he would slow down too. But he is so fun. I love when he walks around - his feet totally make the "pitter patter" sound that you always hear people talking about. **Debbie: Sorry, no advice on biting, but I hope Maddie stops soon and Emilee is ok. **Missy: I know what you mean about not wishing that feeling on anyone. It takes a long time to get over that. **Tonya: Hope everything is ok with your daughter. I don't know anything about it, but I hope it all works out for you. **Megan: Hey, girl! Move on over here! We need the rest of our gang back! **See y'all. DH has given me some computer "sanity" time since I was about to lose it, but he seems to think I've had enough time to myself. Patty and Jarin - 1 year email: tematheny@ctlnet.com Thursday, September 02, 1999 at 20:14:15 (MDT)) Hi eveyrone! Well... It's Friday! Yippy! Actually, it's Thurs. nite as I type this but by the time you all read it, it will be Friday! Do you all have any plans this Labor Day weekend?? I think it's Labour Day in Canada too??? Elizabeth and I are doing pretty good. No major accidents in the past couple days, thank goodness! Elizabeth has been doing some pretty cute things lately [of course :)]. This afternoon she was sitting in the high chair during her snack and Kept taking a deep breath. When I finally looked at her, she had her arms folded. Each time she would take a deep breath, she would uncross her arms and then cross them again. It was so cute. THEN... I told her, "You are just too cute?" and I swear she said, "I cute". But of course, I couldn't get her to say it for DH. I have a picture of me as a little toddler with my arms crossed. I may take a picture of her and put the two together in a double frame. Elizabeth also helped with the laundry. She loves to help put things into the dryer. I hand her things from the washer and she tries so hard to put it into the dryer. Bless her little heart, only half of it makes it... but she tries so hard. Judy, When is your due date? October, isn't it? What does Elijah think or does he really even understand? We plan on having another child when Elizabeth is 2-2 1/2 and I wonder what she will think. That is great that you can go and watch Elijah at daycare. When you watched him while he was outside, did the daycare workers know you were there? It's good that they are really paying attention to him, especially his first week! Julianne, I don't mash Elizabeth's food anymore. I do cut it up good though. Elizabeth has 4 teeth and 2 trying to make it through. Maybe he threw up the other night because he played so hard earier. I don't know. That's great that the shower went well. I can't believe the birth story that woman had! I would have been in MAJOR distress if my DH wasn't there! I guess you gotta do what you gotta do! Helen, Cute story about Amanda chasing the dog w/ the mower. SHe's going to give the dog a complex!! LOL! Beth, How is ALlison doing ? I sure hope she is feeling better!! Poor little thing! How are you feeling? Rita, is AF treating you a little better? Yes, that is great that your childcare provider lives next door. Crystal, YEA for DH coming home in a few weeks. This is our plan for putting Elizabeth in a bed: we are going to give her my old bedroom suite that I got when I was 3 years old (still in excellent shape). We just have to buy the queen size mattress for it. I plan on putting her in the big bed when she's 2 years old... or when's she's ready. I am really excited because when we do the switch... I get to get a new bedroom suite! I don't know about the pillows... sorry. Debbie, I really don't know what to tell you about Maddie biting. I'm probably going to be looked down upon for saying this but maybe try to bite her back 1 good time??! My mom and MIL and SIL all say they just had to bite their kids one time and they quit. I really don't know how I feel about it... I guess whatever works! Elizabeth has just started to pinch me when she's angry. I have NO clue as to where she has learned this as she's not around other children all that much. Okay, now it's your turn: Any suggestions on pinching? LisaB, Elizabeth had that same rash you were talking about 2 days after her chicken pox vacc. I called the doctor too and she said it sounded like heat rash or the german measles. WELL... I am now convinced that it was just a reaction from the vaccination. Megan, I have never given Elizabeth baby vitimins. I have asked my dr. and he said as long as she eats 3 well rounded meals a day and drinks her milk that she's fine without them. He also said that if I wanted to give them to her for MY sake, then it's not going to hurt her either. Elizabeth has been eating 3 well rounded meals since 9 - 10 months, so I'm not worried. I've been changing Elizabeth on the floor since she could roll over because I was always scared she would fall down from the changing table (no matter how fast my reflex's are... she's always faster!) Patty, NO, you are not crazy for needing a vacation after 2 weeks. I mean, Gosh, You just started back teaching kindergartdners, no less after a year of being a sahm! That would do anyone in! BTW- You don't proofread my posts do you? I hope not because I always seem to only have time to post right before bed when I'm good and tired. Hmmm, now I'm going to have a complex about my grammar. WELL... of course your babysitter said everyone that sees Jarin is SO cute... HE IS!!! One last thought of the evening: Do you guys remember when Patty wrote a letter to all the talk-shows, magazines, etc. about doing a show/story on Mom's talk?? Well, I am ticked that we didn't hear anything because Patty's letter was so good and convincing. Well, I wrote Oprah a letter online with the subject: "Mother appreciation". I told her that WE'D appreciate it if we mother's could meet. ANyway... wish us luck. I wish I would have cut and pasted the letter on here... but I totally forgot. In a nut-shell, I told them that it first began when we were pregnant, then infants and now our children our toddlers. I added how much we've depended on each other's advice, friendship, support... yada yada yada... you get the picture. Cross your fingers. Okay, I have weary eyes and fingers that feel like noodles so I guess that's a sign that it's past my bedtime. You guys take care!! OH... if I don't "chat" with you tomorrow... HAVE A GREAT AND SAFE HOLIDAY WEEKEND!!! Kelli & Elizabeth , 13 1/2 months email: rkncs@aol.com Thursday, September 02, 1999 at 23:31:59 (MDT)) Hi guys- I've been a little busier these days. I haven't kept up on the posts too well. I was surprized to see so many of us dealing with our dh's smutty interests. I wish everyone all the best in dealing with this! Yesterday I took Isaac to the library and the park. He had such a great time, it was really nice to see. He was tickled to go to the library. He even went down big slides at the park all by himself, and all sorts of new branching out stuff. It was great. It's funny- now that I stay home, I think we settled into almost too much time at home. Isaac had such a unsettled time at daycare, that I really wanted to work hard to set up a stable routine at home for him. Anyway, it's great for all of us to get out a little more. I'm taking a class 1 night a week and Isaac starts parent participation nursery school in another week. Rita, Debbie- Maybe it's the phase of the moon or something in the air!! AF hit here with a storm this past weekend. I thought I was losing my mind, till I realized it was hormones. My goodness!! Rita, what a great homepage. It was really neat to see your girls. They're darling! That's all for posts, for now. Too tired. Have a great weekend everybody! Sarah g and Isaac email: gat_men@hotmail.com Thursday, September 02, 1999 at 23:39:08 (MDT)) Yeah it's Friday and a 3-day weekend. We have lots of fun family time planned. Saturday DH and I are going to take Colton to the zoo for the 1st time. DH has to help my Grandma with her generator and snowblower so he will take Colton to see her while I visit my friends in the hospital. She lives near the zoo and hospital so we don't have to run all over! Sunday we are having a BBQ at our neighbors with a group of friends. They have a pool and everyone brings their kids so it is lots of fun. Monday my Dad's side of the family has a BBQ at a park with a lake a little over a half hour away. DH usually tries to make an excuse not to come. However, I really am going to try to put my foot down this time. I have gone by myself the last 6 years. Wish me luck convincing him he has to be there. Family get-togethers are one of our biggest arguments. Mine has too many of them and DH thinks they are too boring and a waste of time. Personally I think family is important and try to attend family get-togethers as much as possible. I have comprimised over the past years by attending without him or not going if we were just together recently. Colton had a really good night last night. No coughing or throw up episodes and slept through from 9:30 to almost 7. However, He has started to throw his sippy cup when he should be setting it down. Any ideas on how to stop this. Also, yesterday he started head butting me when he was fussy to get his way. This scared me so bad I started crying. I couldn't get him to stop. Finally I took him outside and managed to distract him. Tonya: Welcome. Colton has had a bump on the back of his head since he was 2 months old. The drs say it is just a cyst and not to worry and that they will not try to remove until he is at least 2 yrs old--unless it suddenly starts growing rapidly. I will be praying that the surgery goes well. Lisa: Glad Max is feeling better and that his molar finally came through. Hope the others arrive really quick. Sarah: Happy 1st birthday to Hannah a day early. I hope she has a great day and that it is full of smiles and giggles :) Judy: That was great that you had a chance to observe Elijah at daycare. I have tried to stop and see Colton during the day but he really throws a fit and cries because I leave without him. I stopped visiting him because I felt I was disrupting him more. I have such mixed feelings about his daycare. Yesterday when I picked him up I found that they had put him in the nursery because he is the youngest in the toddler room and the toddler room was full. He never got to go outside to play because the nursery has too many little babies. It just broke my heart. Luckily he is in the daycare just 2 days a week. I know he needs the toddler interaction but I hate to think that he is sad even for a short time. Megan: Welcome here early. Diaper changing became a big challenge when Colton turned 6 months. He would not sit still for anything. He is getting better now. We have certain toys he can play with only on the changing table and that helps. We also try to get him to look up at the ceiling for "bugs". I recently bought a boarder of Thomas the Train--which is one of his favorite books. I am going to try to cut out Thomas and put him on the ceiling above his changing table to see if that will help too. Kelli: The two pictures of you and Elizabeth crossing arms is a great idea--how cute. Good for you sending that letter to Oprah--it would be a great segment. Have a great holiday weekend everyone. Be safe. Julianne & Colton 13 mo email: jjones@batts.com Friday, September 03, 1999 at 07:34:30 (MDT)) Crystal and Darrel here. It's not been a good day for me yesterday. My best friend flew in town two days ago, so we ended up spending the day together at her house. While I was there, I heard about Tropical Storm Dennis off the NC coast, and I started feeling sick to my stomach. I've been trying to get a hold of DH for the past week and have been unable to. Doug is stationed in NC and is by the ocean. I've been so busy trying to find out if he's ok. No phone calls or e-mails from him for a week and a half. I tried callin the base very early this morning, but I couldn't understand a word that was said. There was a bad connection. I'm going to try calling him at his other job today since he probably has today off from his Marine job because of the holiday. I just need to know that he's okay. If there wasn't the nasty weather there, I wouldn't worry about him. My brother is flying in from Georgia for the weekend, and tonight one of his closest friends is throwing a party for him. Darrel has been the absolute cranky monster. Nothing will help him, so he gets plenty of rest time. Neither of my parents can pick him up. with my mom,, it's because of her surgery. My dad hurt his shoulder and is in a sling. But, my mom is going to watch Darrel for me because he will be in bed when it's time for the party. Well, gotta go. I'm washing my brother's car for him as a surprise. I'll mail out the pictures as soon as I can. Oh, Megan, you're more than welcome to stay here. I was double posting for a while before Darrel turned one. The last two or three months of infancy are so close to that of toddlerhood, depending on the baby. Crystal and Darrel 12 months email: cjeanmurphy@yahoo.com Friday, September 03, 1999 at 08:47:53 (MDT)) Crystal again. My younger brother isn't here yet, so I have time to send pictures out. I'll be sending them as soon as I can. Darrel has not stood alone since that day. When I put him on the floor, he won't even keep his legs straight. I swear that Darrel is the most stubborn child I know, at least at his age. Oh well. He did it one time, so now I don't have to take him to the doctor. I really didn't want to anyway. He has so much fun with his push toys because he can walk from one end of the room to the other. He thinks it's a game to walk from one piece of furniture to the the next using his push toys. I have a feeling that one of these days, he's going to get cocky and leave his push toy a little further out from a piece of furniture and walk the rest of the way. My best friend says that he's going to be walking soon because he doesn't use his hands to pull himself up. He uses his legs and uses whatever he's pulling himself up with for balance. It's not like he needs it, or anything. But Darrel will stay standing for one or two hours at a time. He rarely ever sits now. All Darrel wants to do is stand, holding onto something, and cruise or walk with his push toy. Darrel doesn't even want mommy to hold him much anymore. If I'm holding him, he will sometimes either say "down" or start pushing himself away so that he can get down. darrel gave me a major scare the other day. I was changing Darrel on my bed and walked away to get a blanket from the dresser. He almost always stays still, but this time, he rolled over. Thankfully, I had Darrel's feet closer to the edge of the bed than his head, and he went down feet first. He was on his way down when I got him and was holding onto my sheet, so he was going slowly. He got off my bed all by himself. Didn't bump his head or anything, but he started screaming anyway. He is so sensitive that it's unbelievable. Crystal and Darrel 12 months email: cjeanmurphy@yahoo.com Friday, September 03, 1999 at 10:03:10 (MDT)) Good morning from Rita Well, AF still has had a few surprises up her sleeves for me. I thought she was heading out of town, but she hit me with some nasty mood swings and cramps last night. Poor DH. He went out and brought me back some Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. I think the mood swings scare him, because I don't usually have them. Sarah g - Thanks for the compliments. I think that it's good to take Issac out. We have Maddy on a list for the parent cooperative nursery school next year. I hope that I can work it out with my boss to do it. I know that it will be so good for her. Julianne - Get togethers with in-laws seem to be a problem for lots of guys. My Ex was that way. Larry actually likes my family parties more than his family parties. I don't mind going to his family's parties, I just wish that they were better about RSVPing and coming to our gatherings. Lisa B - One of my sisters BF her DD more than a year. It bothered my mom that my niece would walk up to my sister, pull up her shirt and ask to be BF. Maddy has been very curious about the whole process of BFing and pumping and has gotten her terminology mixed up. She has called my breasts both breastpump and breastmilk. I am waiting for her to say something interesting when I am feeding Amy out in public. Well, I need to get going. Have a good holiday weekend everyone! Rita & Maddy(32 mos) email: ritad@home.com Friday, September 03, 1999 at 11:18:27 (MDT)) Hey everyone...it's Cynthia. Sorry I haven't posted in awhile but I've been so swamped here at work. Also Adam has been sick with the croup and has been a very grouchy, clingy baby. Only want mom-mom 24/7. Even gives DH dirty looks when he tries to hold him. But he's still such a sweetheart. He's saying new words every day. He's also discovered that there's a button in the frige that makes the light go on and off and on and off....He's actually starting to show a small interest in toilet training, although, he's never actually gone on the toilet. We are actually going away for part of the long weekend. We're leaving Saturday afternoon to go camping. My kind of camping too. We stay in a tent, but eat all our meals at a restaurant. All we own is a tent, so no cooking or cleaning for us. The last time we went, Adam was 6 months old. I think he'll really enjoy it. Can't wait to sit around the campfire and roast marshmellows and weiners. I'm such a big kid!!! Geez, we haven't been away together for so long, I feel like I should be buying some new sexy lingerie to wear. Only thing is, it gets chilly at night in a tent and Adam will be with us. Oh well, it will be nice just to get away. At lunchtime today we gave our summer student a baby shower. Its her last day today. She's only 16 weeks along but we had to do something. It was fun. Lots of good food. We all got together and gave her a gift certificate to Toys R Us. She was really surprised. I've been giving her all of Adam's hand-me-downs so hopefully she'll have a boy. Well I should go and do some work now. Have a great long weekend everyone. Whoever has pictures of their babies, I'd love to see them. I had sent out ones of Adam, but if you didn't see them, let me know and I'll send them out again. Cynthia and Adam @20 months email: cynthia.howard@nrc.ca Friday, September 03, 1999 at 11:31:15 (MDT)) Hi from LisaB. I just picked up Max's birthday pictures and they turned out GREAT! DH might just get off the hook for breaking the camcorder after all - hehe. Someone mentioned they are/were an accountant. I'm a CPA and was an auditor for 10 years - just moved in an financial analyst position. JUDY: The house sounds great. I love old houses, especially with the high ceilings, big rooms, and huge porches. I'm picturing a big yard with lots of shade trees and flower beds! MEGAN: Max also goes all over when I change his diaper. I give him his Eore (Winnie the Pooh) and he'll throw it over the edge, with me retrieving it periodically it for him. I also grab his feet, sniff them, and go "PHEW, stinky feet!". He'll giggle and then lay still for a minute or so. I don't know if classical music makes babies smarter but I agree that it is relaxing and it's never too early to introduce a child to culture. PATTY: I only WISH Max was down to one nursing (see post to Rita below). He nurses 3 times a day - 1st thing in the morning, when we get home (around 6 pm), and when he goes to bed. He still nurses a little during the day on weekends too, although I'm working to get him entirely on the sippy cup then. KELLI: The "dual photos" is a cool idea! Parents as Teachers did Max's 1-year home visit last night. DH was all upset because Max tested bad on his fine motor skills (he could do the stuff they wanted him to do - clap, bang 2 toys together, and put toys in a bowl - but just didn't want to do any of this!) They said kids want to start helping with housework around 15 months ... so Elizabeth is ahead of schedule! You had asked about toys awhile back - they blew up a beach ball for Max to play with. He had a ball rolling it all over the house and even tried to pick it up and throw it a little. Another activity they recommended for around 13-16 months is cooking - give your child a big bowl and a little sugar, Cherios, etc. with a big mixing spoon. It'll be messy but the lady insisted kids have a ball doing it! A lady at work said her son got a similar rash when he got his MMR so I'm convinced the rash was from the MMR or chickenpox vaccination. JULIANNE: My DH also hates to go to my family events but I think it's primarily because it's a 10-hour roundtrip. I want to take Max to the zoo in a couple of weeks when the sitter is on vacation. DH said I'm nuts but WHO CARES! It's a free zoo and only a 90-minute drive so it won't bother me if we don't stay long. CRYSTAL: I hope you hear from DH soon; try not to worry (I know, easier said than done). Max also likes to stand. He won't hardly sit in the bathtub anymore - wants to stand at the edge and kick. RITA: My older sister BF her son until he was almost 3 years old. It made me really uncomfortable when he would crawl on her lap, unbutton her shirt, and lift up her bra to nurse. I think that's the major reason I'm wanting to wean Max - at least down to only an early morning and late night feeding. I enjoy BF but want to quit before Max gets too attached to it. CYNTHIA: I'm sorry to hear Adam's been ill. I don't know if anyone noticed but Tracey hasn't posted lately. I feel very responsible for this as I obviously didn't articulate my opinions very well in my e-mail and therefore inadvertently hurt her feelings. I e-mailed her asking her to please come back and be part of our group and telling her that several people have posted to her. I hope she just isn't posting as she's still upset over the entire incident as I remember her posting that several relatives were ill and that her brother and SIL were having troubles (i.e., I hope nothing bad has happened with her family). Anyway, I thought some of you might also want to e-mail her encouraging her to post. Everyone have a GREAT weekend and I'll "see" you on Tuesday! LisaB & Max (12 months) email: lisa_lab@hotmail.com Friday, September 03, 1999 at 12:23:51 (MDT)) Hi Everyone, it's Birthday Judy!! I'm 36 today!! Yikes. A little closer to 40. David and I are going out to dinner tonight and Mom's going to babysit Elijah. I was hoping my manager would let me leave early but it's already past 4:00. She just came to my door and said I could leave whenever I want to. Wow, a whole ½ hour early. I was actually kind of busy today. We're going to have David's 3 boys for the long weekend. Oh joy. I'll go into the details some other time because right now, I'm too tired and I want to leave work. Have a great weekend everybody!! Rita and Maddy - Cumberland has some nice parts to it. I've also seen some run-down parts too, but I suppose that'' true of any city or town. Megan and Benjamin - You're absolutely right about the lead poisoning hazard of old homes. David is aware of the paint and plumbing problems related to lead leeching into the water and being in the air. He's planning to replace the pipes with the new stuff (pvc?) and will be using Kilz or something like it to seal the walls. Some walls will torn off completely because they're plaster and he'll replace them with drywall. I will ask him about the soil in our back yard. I'm not sure if he's thought of that. Thanx!! I'm glad you snuck over for a visit to Toddler's. I'd love to continue to hear from you and Benjamin. He may be at a stage where he is acting more like a toddler than a baby. Patty and Jarin - Thanx for the well wishes for E at KinderCare. He had a good day yesterday and was playing with Duplo's when I came to pick him up. He started to cry as soon as he heard my voice. He was perfectly happy before that. Funny guy. He stopped after a minute. Don't jinx yourself about school. I'm glad it's going so well. Kelli and Elizabeth - E is my little laundry helper too. He'll shove something in the dryer and inevitably it falls out. He'll bend down and try again. Eventually, he gets it!! My due date is 10/25 and Elijah isn't aware of it. He's too young still but I point out pictures of babies to him and we stop and look at the babies on our way out of KinderCare. I'd like to get him a baby doll to play with so he'll get the idea of a baby. He likes to give kisses and he knows how to pet the dog gently so I think I can show him how to kiss and be gentle with a baby doll. And I'm glad that David is open to the idea. After about 5 minutes, I think all the teachers knew I was watching from the window but I think they would've been just as attentive to him if I wasn't watching. BTW, great letter to Oprah. Julianne and Colton - I'm sorry you were so upset with Colton's behavior. E's upset me with his too and I haven't had a clue what to do. I'm hoping to get What To Expect, The Toddler Years for my b'day. I'm hoping to find answers there but I've also called the ped and asked them for advice. I wish your DH was more supportive of you with family gatherings. I think they are extremely important too. I hate to hear about that kind of daycare stuff. I had similar upsets with E's previous daycare. Did you talk with his teacher(s) about it? Or did you talk to the Director about it? I wanted to be sure E didn't know I was there because it would've been too hard on him too. Crystal and Darrell - I'm a little jealous that Darrell doesn't want to be held as much. With my protruding belly and E at 32 lbs., I find it more and more difficult to hold him. The grass is always greener… I'm glad Darrell didn't hurt himself. Those accidents can happen so fast. Lisa B. and Max - I'm glad the pics turned out so well. Are you going to get a new camcorder before the holidays? Judy and Elijah (16 months) email: jhintz@manu.com Friday, September 03, 1999 at 14:14:48 (MDT)) Just a quick hello from Julianne before the long weekend. I heard from my friend who is expecting the triplets today. The ultrasound went good and the drs are going to let her be for at least another 2 wks--unless she goes into labor, they won't stop it. All 3 babies showed good growth: 3,4; 2,3; and 2,10. I was really relieved. I am going to see her tomorrow. Crystal: I will be praying that your DH is safe and I hope you hear from him really soon. Rita: Yummy-Mint Choc Chip is my favorite. I certainly don't need it now as I am eating a Turtle Sundae while I read the posts. Cynthia: Have fun camping. I hope Adam feels better soon. Enjoy the holiday mommies & babies. Julianne & Colton 13 mo email: jjones@batts.com Friday, September 03, 1999 at 14:18:52 (MDT)) Hi everyone. I am looking forward to my long weekend. We are going to DH's parents for a big fireworks show that they have every year at Labor day (not his parents, the city of Cincinnati has it) and we may take Allison to the new aquarium that just went in up there. It should be fun. I'm looking forward to it. Now on to the personals Crystal - I will be praying for your DH in Dennis. I'm sure everything is fine though. Would he be called out to help in the clean-up being in the military?? I know they have to do that here. Rita - AF is really making the rounds. I woke up this morning and lo and behold she was there, a day early! Cynthia - have fun camping. Sounds like fun. Lisa B- my ped told me to expect a rash with the MMR shot that looked like measles. She said it was very common. No, unfortunately that Effie in the forwarded e-mail is not the same one that posted on BT. I too wonder about her. I also wonder about Dana with Derek as I just got her pictures yesterday. Has anyone heard from Mimii' lately either? Does she still post on BT? Hope she is okay too. Julianne - have fun at the zoo. I bet Colton will have a great time. Sarah g - your visit to the park sounds fun. Glad Isaac liked it. Kelli - I bet Elizabeth was too cute huffing and folding her arms. The picture idea is a good one. Patty - Allison is fully weaned as she pretty much weaned herself at around 11 1/2 months or so. I was glad she did so I didn't really have to work to hard to get her off the "booby". I too have a problem with really big kids nursing. Just weird to me. Megan - Come on over early. It's nice to have the old group back. I got the pictures you sent in the mail yesterday. Judy - your "new" house sounds neat. I hope E continues to adjust to daycare. I know how hard it is to leave them when you think they aren't happy or having a good time. Sarah - happy early birthday to Hannah. Look forward to having you as part of our group! Debbie - how's moving going? Tracey - how are you feeling after your tonsillectomy. Noticed you hadn't posted in a few days and I was worried about you. Well, time for me to leave work. I will try to check in from home this weekend. Please just relax, I have not been feeling very well so that is why I have not posted lately. It is not because of anything that went on. Like I said, that is over and done with and I don't want to talk about that anymore. We are all fine. I am starting to feel a bit better now and I am glad because we are going to my grandparents tomorrow for my grandfathers birthday and I want to eat. We went and put some stuff on lay-a-way for Christmas today and i am very excited about that. Well Dillon went and got his shots yesterday and he was up to 22 1/2 pounds and 30 inches. He grew 2 inches in 2 1/2 months. He is getting so big. His new thing now is making himself dizzy. He walks around in circles until he makes himself dizzy and it is so funny. I am affraid that he is going to hurt him self by falling on the fireplace or entertainment system or something though. Oh well, I will just have to keep a close eye on him. Well we are getting our phone turned off for about 1 1/2 months until we get a new carrier because I am sick of paying so much so we will not have the internet for a while either. I will let you all know when we get it back. I will go and post a couple of times a week over at my MIL's house though so I will know what is going on. I love you all and have a safe and great weekend. Tracey and Dillon email: battnt@mindspring.com Friday, September 03, 1999 at 14:47:06 (MDT)) Happy Birthday Judy!!! He marches his little feet and then just laughs. I love his little giggles!! Today he didn't even cry when I picked him up at the sitter - he just walked over to me and gave me lots of hugs and kisses. Of course, he did cry when I dropped him off, but I imagine he will do that for quite a while. I love him so very much! **Kelli: I have a little laundry helper too, only all mine does is pull the clean clothes out of the basket and put them on his head. Elizabeth sounds adorable helping you put the clothes in the dryer. Proofread posts? Are you kidding? I don't even proofread my own, so you can relax about that. LOL I hope you get a better response from your letter to Oprah than I did. I never even got any response from any show except Leeza and that was just a form letter. **Julianne: Have fun at the zoo with Colton. I hope he enjoys it and I hope he keeps feeling better. Good luck getting DH to go to the BBQ. My family has Sunday dinner every week and my dH gets tired of that too. **Crystal: I hope DH is ok with the weather situation in NC. **Rita: LOL at you scaring DH with your mood swings! =) **Cynthia: Sorry to hear that Adam has croup. No one but mommy will do when our little guys (and gals) are sick, huh? **LisaB: I'm glad I'm not the only one nursing more than once a day. I guess if I can get him down to just early morning and nighttime then I won't worry about it. **Judy: Happy Birthday!!!! Jarin also usually cries when he sees me come into pick him up from the sitter. That's why I was so happy today when he didn't cry and just smiled at me. **Beth; Hope Allison enjoys the fireworks show this weekend. I used to chat with Mimii on AIM a lot, but haven't heard from her in a long time. I emailed her a ways back, but never got a response. I hope she is ok. I also wonder about Dana. **Tracey: No Internet service for a couple months? How will you survive??? I think I would have major withdrawal. **Kahne: Good luck tomorrow. I'll be thinking about you. **Take care everyone. Gotta go hug my baby. In reference to the biting, what is wrong with looking them in the eyes and saying "NO!" I have found this quite effective..... Biting them back is like saying "No hitting" and hitting them back. I don't know, everyone's skills are different but, it seems to me alittle common sense! lisa and katie 15mo Friday, September 03, 1999 at 17:03:40 (MDT)) Good Evening everyone! I hope you are all doing good and you've had a great start to your weekend. DH came home today and suprised me with a gift: a turtleneck, sweater and socks from my favorite clothing store... Northern Reflections. I was so suprised. It was an early anniversary gift. We will be celebrating 4 years on Monday (Sept. 6th). I think I am going to get him a scope for his hunting rifle. Elizabeth was sweet today. She was standing in front of the oven and she was looking at her reflection in the door and then she kissed her reflection. It was too cute. SarahG, I think that's great that you took Isaac to the library and park! I know how you feel about staying home too much. I don't get out much during the week... maybe about twice a week. Usually, we spend most of the weekends out doing stuff as a family. Julianne, You guys will have SO much fun taking Colton to the zoo. Actually, I should be writing this like you already took him to the zoo because you won't see this until next Tuesday, right? We took Elizabeth to the zoo for the first time on Father's day and she had a blast just people-watching! I hope you had a great time BBQing with your friends. YES, Family is VERY important and your DH should go to your family BBQ! Fortunatly, DH and I see eye to eye about stuff like that. We both are always in the mind-frame like, "what if something should happen to us or one of your family memebers?" Hmmm... I don't know what to tell you about Colton throwing the sippy cup. I do know that when Elizabeth is done drinking from her's she makes sure I know about it and hands it to me. I have always asked her, "hand me your cup." She doesn't like her sippy cup to be near her when she's not drinking from it. I have a couple cysts on my head just like the one you are talking about w/ Colton. I just had one removed in April... it took maybe 10 minutes. I have a couple more that are growing and will probably have taken out later. My dermatologisht said they are hereditary. I just noticed a day ago that the one I had taken out in April is growing back. They are more of a nuisance than anything else. I am so happy to hear that your friend and her triplets are doing so good. I hope it continues! Crystal, I am thinking about you and your DH's safety in NC. He should be just fine, though. I have family in SC and they said that Dennis was a "breeze" compared to others. I'm glad that Darrell is okay and didn't have a major accident from nearly falling off the bed. Rita, Mmmm... what a great Dh--> bringing you mint chocolate ice cream! Cynthia, I was beginning to wonder about you! I'm glad you checked in! Poor Adam and his croup! You know, it seems like I have heard of a few kids having the croup lately. Caming sounds like so much fun!! I LOL about you bringing sexy lingerie. Now, that would be fun! LOL! LisaB, I am so glad that max's b-day pictures turned out so good! What exactly is 'Parents as Teachers'? I'm guessing it's an organization that helps parents be good teachers? Hmmm... I wonder what gave me that idea? LOL! Thanks for the ideas that you got! Elizabeth loves o play with all the plastic bowls and containers and use them as drums w/ a wooden spoon, so It would be interesting to see what she'd do with a wooden and some cheerios and goldfish in the bowls. No, I can tell you what she would do: throw the wooden spoon down and chow down! I have to say that I would feel extremly uncomfortable with a 3 year old nursing. Judy, * * *H A P P Y ~ B I R T H D A Y ! ! ! * * * Beth, I hope you had fun in Cincinatti! Tell me what Allison thinks of the new aquarium if you go. There is a brand new aquarium, Ocean Journey, in Denver (it's supposed to be the biggest so far in-land). I'd like to take Elizabeth and see it myself. I have also been wondering about Mimii and Dana. I know Dana was pretty depressed the last time she posted and I hope everything is okay. I get forwarded e-mail's from Mimii from time to time. I also wonder where Effie went to. She was always such a hoot. Tracey, I hop eyou have fun tomorrow at your grandfather's birthday get-together. Dillon sure is growing. I had to lol about him making himself dizzy. OH MY gosh... no phone for a month & a half... I'd go crazy! Yes, please check in at your MIL's house if you can! I hope you begin to feel better! Kahne... GOOD LUCK VIBES COMING YOUR WAY!!! CONGRATULATIONS! God bless you both! To me, Marriage is such a blessing! I hope it is for you as well! Take care and I'll be looking forward to hearing all about it! Patty, ELizabeth also lvoes to empty the laundry basket. She also loves to empty my bra and underwear drawer. Yesterday afternoon, I was doing my hair and she had one of my bra's on her head and just looked at me like, "Aren't I cute, mom?" Hey, you have AOL instant message? E-mail me and maybe we can get hooked up. Lisa (w/Katie), Welcome to the site. I hope you come again. Well, I'll be joining you guys now. I'm so excited. Just a couple of posts: JULIANNE - Thanks for the birthday wishes!! :) BETH - Thank you too for the birthday wishes!! :) KAHNE - GOOD LUCK TOMORROW!! I sent the pictures to those who requested them. I'm getting real worried about dh and rather ticked off, too. I called work. He doesn't work today. I called friends. None of them are home. I got a bit suspiscious about none of my friends being home, so I checked the internet for info about Dennis. It's heading back to land with the possibility of becoming a hurricane again. It's supposed to hit in a city called Morhead City, wich is about an hour from dh's base and 15-30 from where he lives. I am so scared right now. I sent dh an e-mail and told him to call me as soon as he gets the e-mail so that I'll know he's okay. If he doesn't call within the next day or two, then I'm going to call his commanding officer. If I can't get the info from him that I need to assure me that he's okay, then I'm calling the Red Cross. I have to go. There were more things I wanted to say, but it's too hard for me right now. After I've calmed down, I'll come back on. But right now, Dh is in a Hurricane warning, both where he lives and where he works. More than likely, evacuations have started, so there's no way I'll be able to get a hold of anyone until after the hurricane. Please pray for me and for my husband. I started teaching her "all done" at that point. If she was in a persistent enough mood I would take it off of the table and that was that!!! I have question, I love my parents and value so much of their parenting BUT, I feel my father was a little to strict at times (Irish and not much humor!) Sometimes I think he talks alittle sternly to Katie. She is 15 months independent etc... Alot of "NO" head turns with "Humph!" I can laugh it off because I know it will pass (to a point) Poppa has a hard time with this. Any suggestions? We are expecting Katie's brother in early November and I find this board much more fun than BT! lisa and katie 15mo Saturday, September 04, 1999 at 15:56:35 (MDT)) Crystal here. Okay, I've calmed down quite a bit. I also talked to a friend In NC. The electricity went out while we were talking. She said that more than likely, Doug will be on base. Last weekend, many of the Marines had to stay on base because of the hurricane. Yes, Dh will probably be a part of cleanup. He is a heavy equipment mechanic and operator. The base is closed down, so no one is allowed to leave base if they are on base, and no one is allowed on base if they are off. She said that as soon as the hurricane is over and she can get on base, she'll go to my husband's unit and have him call me. This way, I know that he'll get the message to call. Darrel was so adorable yesterday. My friend was here and we were looking at my photo album. Darrel was in his crib. Well, he pulled himself up and then let go of the rail. Then he grabbed it again and let go. He was also bouncing on his mattress without holding onto the crib! Well, this went on for a good 5-10 minutes. My best friend and I were so proud of him, and Darrel was very proud of himself. CathyG: I was unable to get the picture mailed to you. I tried but it came back saying that it's undeliverable. Well, that's it for now. Thanks, ladies, for all of your support during this difficult time. Of course, this whole 6 mmonths has been difficult on me. but right now is probably the most difficult. It's mostly because I don't know what's going on in North Carolina. Right now, I don't know if my husband is dead or alive. But, I'm trying to hold on to the hope that he is alive and that he's not even injured because of Dennis the Menace.
