Toddlers Today's MomsTalk Archive Hi everyone! Melissa and Molly here......What's up with these darned margins? They were "fixed" just the other day, then, tonight, I couldn't even find the board. I was beginning to think something was up when I hadn't seen a post since Thursday!!! I finally got here, though, only to have to back and forth again to read! Sorry to gripe! STILL GREAT NEWS------things are back to normal with Molly's sleeping. She'll still try to "tune up" at first, but I just remind her that if she chooses to throw out her pacis, then that's where they'll stay----on the floor! Several of you have said you didn't mind my Molly stories, so here's the latest! She crawled up on the couch tonight and wanted a blanket. Just a few seconds later, she sat up and said, "I wake up, Mama." I said, "you didn't sleep very long...", and she held up 2 fingers and said, "I sleep a couple of days!!" Where do those little munchkins come up with some of that stuff? How would she know to associate "couple" with 2??? She baffles me constantly!! On to personals: LISAB***I'm glad you don't mind me being long-winded! Where do you live? How did the meeting with your bosses go? OK, I hope. BETH***More and more, it sounds like Molly and Allison are sooooo alike! Does Allison talk very plainly? How did you get her going so early on potty training? Have you used the little swimmers yet? (Sorry about all the questions!!) PATTY***Where do you live that you have all that snow? YEA for getting to work! Jarin sounds real cute, too. Keep on telling about his little tricks. I love hearing about them. CATHY G***Good luck on the 3 work days. CHRISTI***Don't aplolgize for talking about Caleb's progress. That's GREAT. I only wish Molly showed more interest. She is growing up so fast, and I think I haven't pushed potty training, because that'll be like the "final passage" from babyhood! SARAH G***I'm sending positive thoughts to you about DH and the whole situation. MORIAH***I loved Zandy Cards. I even told my sister about it, so she could check it out. I really loved the picture of Alex with the pumpkins!! Where do you live? Doesn't your sister sometimes post here, too? What's her name? SUE***I hear it about the creaky bones! Cameron sounds so cute! Enjoy the cuddlebug phase...all too soon they start the independence thing. Molly says, "go away, Mama!" when I try to help her with something that she wants to do "'self"! She told her Papa (my dad) to "go away" the other day, and he said, "don't tell ME to go away or I'll cut off your credit cards!" I just love to listen from the next room when he tells her stories or when they're just talking and playing!! BIRDIE***Poor little Noah's gums. Children's Motrin cuts fever real fast. My dr. told me to give it to Molly every 8 hours and give Tylenol at the 4 hours in between. That really helped with her teething. Do you use the night-time orajel? It's OK for the daytime, too, and I think it's much better. Molars ARE bad, but I think Molly's eyeteeth were the worst! Hang in there.....this too shall pass. Hope it gets better soon. RITA***YOU FEEL OLD? My oldest niece has a daughter one year OLDER (to the day) than Molly and another one about 18 mos younger than Molly. My youngest niece is 16, so my parents are enjoying the 3 little girls (babies) all over again!! THAT SILLY MOLLY----she just woke up needing a drink of juice. She started to whine and was asking to come to my bed. I told her I'd rub her back and turn on the music. That was ok for just a second. Then she sat up and said, "I need a cracker." I thought, what the heck, and got one for her........then she looked at me with this precious grin and said, "I weally need some cheese!" Oh well, at least she didn't fuss and wake Mom and Dad up, and she's back down now!! Back to personals... ANGELA***Welcome. Sorry I can't offer any advice but hope things get better soon. MICHELLE***YEA for Evan! Molly will probably be 2 1/2 when she's trained at the rate we're (not) going! She will sit on the potty, but it's a game. She HAS to have her "mazagine" (notice the spelling)! Today, she wiped herself---did a good job, but no tee-tee to wipe up! She seems to have everything down EXCEPT the tee-teeing!! Well, that's my monster post for this time. I'll talk to y'all later. Melissa and Molly (2 years) email: molsmom98@hotmail.com Sunday, February 06, 2000 at 03:59:46 (EST)) Rebecca here... Helen - I am so glad to hear you are feeling better (and safe enough to share with us). We are all here for you! Paige is sick. I barely slept all night. It looks like its croup. The worse part is in the last couple of days she has played with almost all of her friends. I'm afraid she may have infected them too. At first I thought it was just the teething, but last night she was barking most of the night. No fever, and the dr says that it usually only lasts a couple of days. Can't stay, we're going to my parents for dinner and I want to try to take a nap. Talk to you later! Rebecca & Paige email: burn@canadawired.com Sunday, February 06, 2000 at 17:10:19 (EST)) Katy here It's been a while since I've been on, but I have good news. On Friday we signed the lease on a bigger, two bedroom house!!! YEAH!!! It's about 15 miles from where we are now, but I'm just so excited that Liam fianlly gets a bedroom of his own. We spent some time on the weekend moving. But the bad news was on Saturday, DH was in an accident. A driver ran a red light and hit the back end and then fled the scene. Luckily 9 other people saw this happen and got the plate number of the hitter. Unfortunately our car is undrivable, but hopefully we can trade it and the car we were selling in for a down payment on another car because we got both of the others at the same place. Well I got to get going. Everyone have a good monday. Katy and Liam email: princess__bride@hotmail.com Monday, February 07, 2000 at 08:58:52 (EST)) Aaaaargh!! Just lost a really long post - not the thing you want to happen on a Monday! It's Louise by the way. Hope everyone had good weekends. James has been such a sweetheart, my heart has just melted most of the weekend. He has taken to spinning round and giggling too. This morning he just about broke my heart though - I was rushing around getting ready to leave the house, and I draped my winter coat over a chair. James rushed up to it, tugged it off the chair, and said 'Mama Mama' while shaking his head and trying to put it back in the cupboard!! Needless to say I really didn't want to come in to work today - I've only got another 6 weeks left on this contract though, then I'll be a full time SAHM. I'm really looking forward to it, although I'm nervous about money - I'm hoping I can pick up more freelance work if I need to. Anyway onto personals, what with losing my post I've already been on here for ages! (and James and I are both better now, thanks for those of you who sent good wishes!) SUE - Cam sounds adorable being such a cuddlebug. It certainly makes leaving them hard though! CHRISTI - sorry about that DC situation. You must have felt awful, I hope it's all straightened out now. HELEN - I'm so glad you're feeling better and felt secure enough to talk about it. Obviously I'm speaking from my own experience here, but it really helped me to know that I was NOT alone, that I wasn't going crazy, and that the doctor had seen it all before and COULD help. SARAH - hope you get back on soon! I miss hearing about HANNAH! BIRDIE - hope you enjoyed the weekend. As you can tell, I've just about managed to restrain myself from starting an affair, getting pregnant, divorcing DH and marrying my lover this weekend, but it's been tough!!!! PATTY - So you did some work this week eventually, huh?!!!Re the Lincoln House Hotel - I don't know it well, but I think it's on Gloucester Place (I'll check I've got the right place)- really central for the West End shops and all the sights, a more modern and busy district than the one you were thinking of going too, but more central. Can't wait for you to come, hope we can work out meeting up if your schedule allows!! STACEY - I couldn't access your web page for some reason, but I'll keep trying, I want to see those two girls! Good luck with the job move. ANGELA - I have no experience with a toddler/new baby, but Helen's advice sounded sensible. Good luck with it all. MICHELLE - I was LOL at the story of Evan's soother and the cows! I'll have to try that one! MELISSA - I've written 'Molly' in my notes but can't remember why now, sorry! It was probably that she just sounded so cute and funny as usual! BTW, I LOVE that name, my niece is also Molly. REBECCA - hope Paige's croup eases up, that must be difficult. KATY - Congrats on the new home, sorry about the car. That's it! Louise & James (15 months) email: rnash78035@aol.com Monday, February 07, 2000 at 11:08:40 (EST)) Louise again - just forgot to say - where's Lynda? Hope all is well down under if you're reading! Louise & James email: rnash78035@aol.com Monday, February 07, 2000 at 11:16:45 (EST)) Hey everyone, Happy Monday. I hope you all had a nice weekend. Not too much going on around here lately. Hope everyone is okay. We spent the weekend at my in laws. It was okay. My MIL is great, but my FIL is such a pain sometimes that I think I might go crazy. He does anything he can to get a rise out of me. I've stopped saying anything about him giving Allison candy(unless it's right before dinner) so now he's had to find something else to do to make me mad so he's started trying to teach Allison bad table manners. Things like spitting, throwing food, feeding the dog off the table, etc. He does these things when DH is not around too. My MIL has gotten on him as well as my SIL, but if it doesn't come from a man then he won't hear it. I want DH to see him doing it just once because if he says something to him then he'll stop. They're coming here tomorrow as DH's surgery is tomorrow at 11:00 am. They may be staying with us for a few days and I think I may go crazy if they do. It's just going to throw my schedule all off to try to deal with them in my house. Oh well, I'll stop complaining for now and just deal with it. Birdie - I'll try not to have any major life changes in the next day. You were cracking me up putting that in your post. Too funny! Rita - hope Amy starts sleeping better for you soon. Allison always slept like the pits when she was getting teeth. Stacey - I'm going to check out your web sight when I get home today. The internet police have arrived at my work so I read the posts really fast and took notes at the same time. Now, I'm writing this in Notepad (Word is connected to our server, but Notepad is local to my machine) and will cut and paste it into the posting sight very quickly when I get done. Helen - glad you felt comfortable enough to tell us what you're going through and I'm glad that you are doing better lately. I've never experienced depression myself, but have known people that have and it can be a horrible thing to go through. Patty - so glad you finally decided to go to work one day last week! LOL. Hope the trend continues. Michelle - congrats on Evan being potty trained. 2 1/2 isn't really all that old. In fact, I think it's about average for potty training. Melissa - I used the little swimmers this summer and Allison peed in them once before we got to the pool and you would have thought that she'd been swimming already. It leaked absolutely EVERYWHERE! I imagine a BM would be much more disgusting as they don't really have any leak guards and would think it would come out of every available hole. Allison has been really easy to train. She played on the potty for a while and would let her sit on it before her bath etc. Then one day we accidently caught some pee and she's been going ever since. It was really easy. Molly cracked me up wanting some cheese. When Allison wants to get out of doing something (going to sleep, sitting in her car seat, etc) she will say that she has to go pee pee. Of course, I can't turn her down in that area so I take her. She will go about 80% of the time when she does this, the other 20% I think she's just the little girl that cried "peepee" to get out of whatever it is she doesn't want to do. Her speech is not nearly as clear as Molly's, but lately it has started getting clearer everyday and she's putting more and more words together to form sentences, I figure 6 months from now when she's Molly's age she'll be talking up a storm about everything. Rebecca - I hope Paige is better soon. Katy - too bad about Dh being involved in a hit and run. Glad you were able to get the license. Congrats on moving to your new house. Louise - James trying to put your coat back up sounds too cute. I bet it was really hard going to work knowing he didn't want you to. Well, I should get this thing posted and get back to work I guess. If I don't get on here tomorrow it's because I'm nursing DH and I'll try to get back on Wed and let you guys know how everything went. Beth and Allison (20 months) email: bobwite@msn.com Monday, February 07, 2000 at 14:31:14 (EST)) Hi mommies. Jarin's latest trick is spitting. He spits until he has drool running down his chin - quite an attractive picture, huh? LOL He was also a sweetheart big time all weekend. I just love all the hugs and cuddles. =) **Stacey: I like your site. Your girls are precious and you look great too. **Liz: Good to see you here! =) I hope you and Forest are feeling better quickly. **Michelle: Yay for Evan being potty trained. I was LOL at the "Ukkies". That's too funny that Riley already tells you when he has them. **Melissa: Yay for Molly sleeping normally again! She is too funny with sleeping for "a coupla days!" I live in Indiana, and we have too much snow! I'm glad you like to hear about Jarin's little tricks. You might have noticed that I kinda like to tell about him. =) I can't believe how much Molly talks!!! **Rebecca: Hope Paige is feeling better asap. I hope it doesn't turn out to be croup and she gets back to normal. **Katy: Congrats on the new house. Sorry to hear about DH's accident. I'm glad he seems to be ok. **Louise: Sounds like we both had cuddlebugs this weekend. =) Last night I told Jarin I had to go to work today and he kept shaking his head and saying "no, no" "no, no". So cute and just about breaks my heart that I have to leave him. Yes, we will DEFINITELY have to meet when we are in London. We will be there from July 15-July 22.So save a day for me, ok? I still have your address and phone, so I'll take it with me when we go. **Beth: Sorry to hear that your FIL is such a pain. I hope they don't end up staying with you. I'm sure that would be no fun. Hope DH's surgery goes well. let us know. **take care everyone. Cat is feeling much better, and thank the lord for it. I feel great, better than I have in a while. we spent the night in a roach motel, I have always wanted to do that. Dont ask me why! I suggest that all f you leave the kids for a night, get a cheap motel, and act like it is prom night all over again, hehe. I hope I have not disgusted all of you with my little escapade! I am so amazed that all of our little ones are potty trained, or almost! congrats to all who are there or getting there. Cat's only intrest in the potty is floating her ducky in it. She now knows where her tummy, feet, belly button, and head are. she now says "oh wow" and "oh boy". Lol. She wont say anything else though. She can run now, and every day she does something new. Ok I am rambling! Welcome new mommies, I am the prodigal daughter here, I leave and return once a week! I can never get caught up on personals, but has anyone hard from crystal???? Ok, gotta run! Love you all!!! Kahne and cat 1 email: kahneandsteve@hotmail.com Tuesday, February 08, 2000 at 01:39:31 (EST)) Hi! Just thought I'd pop in and say hi before I hit the sack! Thankyou everyone for your positive thoughts about our situation!! You guys are awesome! I'll be 'lurking' when I can this week, and try to make time for personals when it's not so late. Have a great week ladies and kiddos! Sarah g email: gat_men@hotmail.com Tuesday, February 08, 2000 at 03:15:24 (EST)) Hello from Helen&Amanda!! Well, DH is back from his weekend- got back a day early and was hanging around yesterday so I didn't get a chance to post, He had fun w/the guys, now its back to work. Amanda was up the noght b/f last 3X- must have been that molar trying to come in, I can feel the pointy top but it hasn't broken through yet. She says 'YUCKY' when she poops now- DS taught her that. She said 'yes' over and over this weekend but yells NO when I say yes to her- what a little stinker! She also is saying 'I don't know' all together -- we just figured that it must be what she is saying after a few mos of it.She says 'hello' when playing w/the phone but its more like neenooo-- so cute- really have to keep our ears open these days with all the new words! MORIAH-- How did WW go on Sat??? I go on Wed- I'll let you know how I do. How is baby Rachel?? LOUISE--Congrats on becomming a SAHM soon! SUE--How is the slim fast diet going?? KATY--Congrats on the house- hope DH is OK after the accident- hope they find the other driver! BIRDIE-- Hope you had a good weekend! We called ahead for a crib at Disney since its impossible to bring one on the plane- our friends in Canada have their crib set up when we visit so we're all set there- we did bring a portable playpen this past summer when we went away- thought it would be cleaner and feel more familiar to Amanda than a germy hotel one-LOL! As for driving- God bless you both- what will it be- 30+hrs?? I think it was 23 for us. We went twice that we drove- once the kids were 2&4 and then again they were I think 6&8. Buy a few new toys to bring- remember the noisy ones will probably get chucked out the window on the way home by you or DH so leave them home-LOL! Plan on a lot of stops, pack clean, not messy snacks and drinks, good luck! REBECCA- Hope Paige is well soon! LIZ--Welcome! BETH--Hope the inlaws make it a quick visit- hope DH's surgery goes well! MICHELLE--Congrats on Evan being potty trained- Yes be proud, a lady at the grocery store this AM was so happy her 3.5year old went potty 2-days in a row!!!She said all the fam was after her to get her trained that she was too old-- make you feel better??Sometimes those little bladders don't co-operate!( is that how you spell 'bladder'- doesn't look right??LOL!) Amanda has started with the yucky too-- how cute! STACey--What cute girls!! Hope your enjoying your company!! LISAB-- What happened on Friday???? We're waiting!!!!!! Gotta go-- Later! Helen&Amanda@18mos-(#3) email: mhim27@hotmail.com Tuesday, February 08, 2000 at 12:19:34 (EST)) Hey Girlys! It's Moriah! I've been lurking but everytime I go to post I get sidetracked & didn't get it done. So I'm making time to get it done now! Alex is doing great - besides an ear infection AGAIN! I'm so thankful for those tubes though! He gets through the infections with no pain although it's another 10 day course of Augmentin - his poor little hiney! Other than that he continues on a daily basis to amaze us. Yesterday we were cracking up because he was "chasing" Geoff all over the living room - Geoff would move & Alex would scoot over there (on his back/side) - not slow either - FAST & squealing the whole time. Also the baby wipe box is now the source of fascination - he LOVES to take the wipes out of the box & scatter them. UGH! Everytime I get done picking them up - 10 minutes later they're out again. Weight Watchers is going okay. I only lost 1/2lb my 1st weeks & I was pretty disappointed - but then that night AF made her nasty appearance & it clicked as to why the small weight loss. Plus last week was a bad weather week so I only got to walk once. I'm pretty excited though because I have 2 neighbors that walk a lot together & I finally talked to one & told her I'd like to join them - so now I have walking partners for like 4 days a week! That's really what I need is motivation. Plus it's nice becuase this morning there were 4 of us moms & everyone has a baby, so it's good social for us too. I'm trying so hard to eat more veggies & fruit & get Geoff into healthier dinners. Our biggest downfall is that we both LOVE snacks at like 8:30. Our favorite - COOKIES! I finally used up the last of the refriderator dough & I'm not replacing it as the temptation is too much. Last night I had a nonfat orange popscicle instead. Rachel Update: She continues to recover pretty well. They got her chest closed up on Friday & she's pretty much off the pacemaker. She still has a ways to go but she's doing better than they had expected at this point. GO RACHEL! Unfortunatley Geoff threw away my notes sheet (in his effort to help clean LOL) so I only have a couple days worth of personals! Beth - Hope your DH has a successful surgery & you do not kill your inlaws! Sounds like your FIL needs a little kick in the butt! Patty - Alex is also a total cuddle bug - don't ya just love it!? WOW - all those snow days - bummer when you have to make them up in June though. Kahne - I was cracking up at your suggestion of the cheap motel. I'd do it if I could only squeeze into my prom dress! LOL LOL LOL LOL! Geoff would probably die from laughter. Katy - Congratulations on your house! Melissa - welcome - you're a great addition to our group. Molly sounds like such a kick. I live in the SF Bay Area (California) My sister does post her - her name is Shelly & she has a DS named Riley. Stacey - good luck on your interview!!! YOur girls are beautiful! I like your website. I LOVED the pick of you and Franchesca & then you & Alexa in the same tree. Birdie - I'm holding off on all major life changes until you get back! LOL LOL I'm SOOOOOOOOO jealous of your trip to DW. I was just bugging Geoff last night about going back to Disneyland next Christmas! Lisa B - What happened with your bosses??? Hope you're feeling okay! Kelly - how are you feeling?? Hope all is well. Helen - see above re: WW. How are your doing about getting your veggies/fruit in? Any tricks to share? Hopefully I do better with my loss this week! Well I hope I didn't miss anyone! If I did - SORRY! HUGS to all those toddlers! Moriah & Alex (16 months - yesterday :() email: geoffandmoriah@msn.com Tuesday, February 08, 2000 at 15:25:59 (EST)) Hi mommies. What is up with this site? Half the time I can't get it to load, and when it does, it takes about 15 minutes! I can tell other people must be having the same problem since there aren't very many posts. Jarin is doing great, but he is a little stuffy. Guess we need to use more nose drops for a couple of days. **Moriah: I am so glad to hear that Alex continues to do well. Sorry about the ear infection though. I totally agree with you on the tubes! Jarin hasn't had any infections since he got them. (Knock on wood) I'm so glad we went ahead and had them put in. Too funny about the baby wipes. I hate to tell you, but we STILL have to keep them out of Jarin's sight, or he does the same thing. =) Good luck at WW this week. Sorry, but an orange popsicle doesn't sound nearly as good as cookies. (I'm a big help, aren't I? LOL) Yay for Baby Rachel. I keep praying for her (and Alex) and I hope she continues to do well. Yes, I LOVE this cuddlebug stage. =) =) **Kahne: Glad you enjoyed your "lovin" weekend - even if it was in a roach motel. LOL **Helen: Aren't new words the cutest? I can't understand half of what Jarin says, but it is still so adorable to hear him talk. =) **Take care everyone. I hope they get this thing fixed so everyone can post again soon. Patty and Jarin - 17 months email: tematheny@ctlnet.com Tuesday, February 08, 2000 at 17:40:47 (EST)) Lello!!! It feels like ages since I've been here. I've been busy and i feel like I have a whol;e new life, but I really don't. So many things have changed lately. First my new job and now, my DH and are trying to work things out. He has been spending a lot of time with us and we are all happy. I don't know where to go from here, but am just taking it day by day. Wish me luck!!! Riley is talking so good. He is saying sentences and no longer grunts (well, most of the time) or cries to get what he wants. He is peeing and pooping in the potty. Don't worry! I'm not pushing him. He is just doing it. Instead of peeing on the floor he runs in and stands in front of his potty. I think he is just copying big bros. I didn't take notes as I had so much to read to catch up. I will try to not wait so long betewen posts. Once you go too many days, it's hard to get back. I was working in Jesses class one day and this little girl told me she finally had her daddy back. I'm looking at this cute, tiny little girl and I thought how sweet, her parents are trying again. Then she says, he's been in jail. The cops had to chase him to stop his car. So now I wonder what is Jess telling teachers and parent helpers at his school about having his dad back?!LOL Shelly & Riley 22 months Tuesday, February 08, 2000 at 21:13:15 (EST)) A quick HELLO from Helen&Amanda!! Yes Patty- its taking a long time to get on here- 4 minutes or so for me-hope everyone is back soon- I also noticed it was slow here, never occured that might be the reason. SHELLY-- Glad to hear you and DH are working on things- hope everything goes well. :O) MORIAH-- Alex sounds SOOO cute- the little wiggler!! Good news about little Rachel- poor little babies that have to go through so much- breaks my heart. :O( Don't worry about not losing much- this week may be better- or your body may still be adjusting to less food and all of a sudden you'll lose a few- hang in there. I am trying to eat fruit when I'm hungry- not a veggie person- I have canned fruit, unsweetened, canned mushrooms- I know- yuk! And try to pig out on that when I get hungry- so far its working.( also keep a bowl on the counter so I will go for that not the fridge!) Well should go-- I just tanned in the basement- need the cellulite tanned for Florida-LOL! ( we have a friend w/a tanning salon and she gave us a bed she was getting rid of.) My motto is- tanned fat looks better than white!! OK have to get in the shower--- night all!! Helen&Amanda@18mos-(#3) email: mhim27@hotmail.com Tuesday, February 08, 2000 at 22:53:00 (EST)) Hey everyone!! I hope you guys are all doing good! It's been almost a week since my last post. I don't know how you guys keep up so good. I just can't seem to find the time between Elizabeth, laundry, cooking, cleaning, puking, sleeping, Elizabeth and more laundry! LOL! Here is a few REALLY QUICK personals: Helen, I LOL about "tanning your celulite" I'm sure that's not true, but you are way too funny! I also really appreciated your post to Angela about moving a Toddler to a big bed since we will be doing that in about 10 months. Melissa, I really enjoy reading your posts!! Molly sounds like such a doll!! Elizabeth didn't start walking until 14 months either! Yes, I'm familiar with where you live. When I lived in Oklahoma, we used to drive down to Dallas on I-35 all the time. Beth, Did you get along with your FIL before you had Allison? How rude of him to deliberatly tell Allison to do or say something that you don't approve of! Moriah, Poor Alex and his ear infection... but atleast he's not in pain. Okay, how CUTE is your little "scooter"? He sounds like he's got quite the charming personality! Shelly, Good wishes for you and your dh! I hope things work out for the best! Patty, HI! I bet it's hard starting another work week when you had most of last week off!! Hope Jarin gets rid of his stuffy nose!! Well gang, that's it for me on the personals... I'm sorry!! I have been still feeling very nauseous!! On Friday, I woke up with a severe migraine and I had to go to the dr. for a couple shots! DH and I want 3 or 4 children, but if this keeps up, this may be the last!!! Elizabeth is doing GREAT! EXCEPT she thinks she has to hit to get her way!! I don't know what to do!! Argh! Kelli & Elizabeth, almost 19 months!!! Yikes! email: rkncs@aol.com Wednesday, February 09, 2000 at 01:42:31 (EST)) Rebecca here... Okay, I'm really bad, I didn't take any notes. I'm hoping when you hear about my day you'll understand. I made the mistake of agreeing to watch my friends son for 'a couple of hours' (turned out to be 9!). He arrived at 6:30 am (I don't usually wake up with Paige until 8 or later). He hadn't been fed and was tired. I had slept about 3 hours all night. Paige woke up early. Both kids had to be fed at the same time and he wouldn't let me feed him. His parents had sent very little food with him, so I gave him some of mine (though I don't know what he's had before so hopefully no allergic reactions). He's 9 months. I ended up stripping him at lunch and letting him feed himself. What a huge mess. I couldn't get both kids to take a nap at the same time. I'd get Paige down, and then an hour later William only to have Paige wake up and come into the front room and wake him up (he was on the couch with me next to him). Luckily I did get paid (though not nearly as much as I think I deserved!). Let's just say my brain feels like Jello. Paige is feeling better. The cough has settled down into a normal one. The dr says it could last for up to two weeks, but I'm already seeing a difference. I'm off to bed to try to recover from my day. I just had to come share. Today has curbed my baby desire (which was just starting to return). Another year or so might be in order! LOL Talk to you later. Well Amanda was getting grumpy so I put her in bed and now I hear her jumping in the crib having a party! Guess its too early for a nap! I just changed all the beds and cleaned DD's room- what a mess!!! The dirty clothes, jewelry, papers, toys--- UUUHHHH--- hope she gets neater with age or she will be single! KELLI-- Hope the morning sickness passes soon- its hard with a little one to chase when your so sick and tired all the time. Sorry I can't help with the hitting- hope she outgrows that stage soon. Have you tried the time-outs??? I saw a little chair at the craft store with time-out engraved on it- was so cute--- maybe have her sit for a minute( or even 30 seconds) and set a timer everytime she hits and tell her she can't hit and has to sit until the bell rings??? REBECCA--- Wow did you get taken advantage of---- did she say she would watch Rebecca for you as a thank you for your babysitting- if not hope its the last time for her. :O) Well Amanda is STILL bouncing-- hope she settles down and sleeps-- back to housework-Later!! Helen&Amanda@18mos-(#3) email: mhim27@hotmail.com Wednesday, February 09, 2000 at 11:49:20 (EST)) Hayley here. I wonder if the problems with the site have anything to do with the "cyber-hackers" on Yahoo, e-bay, etc? I hadn't been able to get in since Thursday, and could only get in by going all the way back to the Toddlers Today main page. I'm a single mom this week, with DH on a 5 day business trip returning Thurs. However, paybacks are a bitch - I'm flying cross-country for biz for 6 days in March and leaving Becca with him! It'll be the longest I've ever been away from her, and I miss her already. Becca's officially a little girl, rather than a baby, now. The day care center put her in pigtails yesterday, and I barely recognized her! Took her out for Indian food last night - that was a new taste sensation. She actually liked some of the spicy stuff, although the the spicy peas in the samosas threw her for a loop. I'm going to "preschool preview" night in San Francisco tonight - I'm preparing to be traumatized by the amount of tuition, year long waiting lists, aptitude tests (have your 2 1/2 year old child draw your family), etc. Help me!!! hayley and rebecca, 16 mos. email: hayley.thompson@citicorp.com Wednesday, February 09, 2000 at 20:04:07 (EST)) Hi mommies. Ok, so I'm not the only one having problems with this site since I just got email from Sarah saying the same thing. Jarin is sitting here, not so patiently waiting for me to finish "computer time". Nothing new here, except I did get the pictures developed of Jarin in my green and purple pumps, so if anyone wants to see, let me know. I know, I know, I've already sent tons of pictures of him. What can I say? I kinda like the little guy. =) **Shelly: Good luck with the ex-dh. I hope everything works out for you guys. Riley sounds like he is getting to be quite the little man, with the p/t and all the talking. LOL at Jesse telling his class about having his father "back". Hope he doesn't have the same story as that little girl. heehee **Helen: I am SO jealous! I want to come tan at your house! I hate having to go to the tanning salon to get mine. I end up thinking, "Oh, I really don't want to go out" and then I only go 1-2 times a week. What a waste. Jarin also loves to jump in his crib. He thinks it's party time in there, as long as I don't try to get him to take a nap. He's doing great at bed time, so I'll settle for that! About DD's room - good luck! My DD is now 16 and her room is even more pathetic than it was when she was younger. Not only can she NOT put anything away, she can't even close a dresser drawer. UGH! =( **Kelli: I really didn't want to go back to work and now that it is Wednesday, it seems like we've been there FOREVER. LOL. Sorry to hear you are still nauseous. Migraines? Uck. I used to get them. Nothing is worse. Sorry Elizabeth is hitting. Here Jesse and Jaime are TRYING to teach Jarin to hit. What great kids I have. **Rebecca: A couple = 9 hours? Wow, wish I knew that. LOL. Sounds like you got taken advantage of. Sorry you had such a horrible day. Hope you get rested and feeling better. **Take care everyone. Hope this site gets fixed! Patty and Jarin - 17 months email: tematheny@ctlnet.com Wednesday, February 09, 2000 at 20:55:59 (EST)) Hello to all mommies of toddlers!! I am a mother of an 18 month old little boy. I am wondering about when he should start talking more. He does say a few things but not all the time. Our pediatrican told us to loose the pacifier and he would start talking more. HELP!!! Trevor loves his pacy and I don't want to take it away to soon. What do I need to do? My family says he will talk when he is ready. I need advice. Thanks!!! Kelli Kelli email: kkt23@aol.com Wednesday, February 09, 2000 at 22:02:51 (EST)) Hey everyone!! Elizabeth is such a ham! I just love her sooo much!! She came up to me atleast 6 or 7 times today and gave me a kiss and hug and said, "ahhh baby" while giving me a hug. She's been so darn independant lately and it's hard to get a kiss out of her sometimes. She's the sweetest little girl!!! She LOVES to wear all my plastic bowls on her head. She'll put one on, look at herself in the oven door and come to me and say, "Mommy, HAT!" She loves hats! Rebecca, What a day you had!!! Well, you now know you WON't babysit for those people anymore! What were they thinking!!! Helen, Yes, we've tried time-outs. She thinks it's a game and she doesn't care. We've tried just about everything. Elizabeth is a VERY strong willed child! Hayley, Becca in pigtails sounds SOOO cute!! Hope you have a smooth week w/out your dh. Patty, you don't even have to ask me if I want to see a picture of Jarin. YOu know I would love to! Hope the rest of the week goes by fast for you! Kelli (w/ Trevor), (Oh, by the way... Love the name!) Maybe you should take Trevor's paci away a little each day and work up to when he only has it at night. Also, I know reading to him alot will really help the "jabbering" start. But, I wouldn't worry too much just yet about him not talking much. He may be a quiet boy and then one day you won't be able to shut him up! I got the book "The Strong Willed Child" by Dr. James Dobson. I just love Dobson. I'm hoping this will give me some insight. I have my first ultrasound tomorrow. I'm getting excited about it. Well, you ladies have A GOOD Thursday and take care! OH... LISAB, how are you doing?? Kelli & Elizabeth, almost 19 months! email: rkncs@aol.com Thursday, February 10, 2000 at 02:10:01 (EST)) Hi everyone, Christi here. Finlly I can get in here with out waiting forever. Sorry to have been gone for a while, but looks like I am not the only one--wow it has been slow around here! I didn't take any notes, because I didn't expect to be able to post, so.... Rebecca*** Sounds like you had a day! Ummm, 9 hours is more than a few. Hopefully you can be firm and tell them no if they ask again. Patty*** I would like to see your little cuty in the pumps, please! Kelli*** Elizabeth sounds cute wearing all of your bowls for hats! Moriah*** Alex sounds cute scooting all over! As Patty said, the diaper wipe situation never gets better! :-) My 4 year old still likes to play with them--she is cleaning. Shelly*** Good luck to you and exdh, I had kind of been thinking about that happening. Hope it works out. Trevor's Mom (I am sorry, I didn't write anything down, and I forgot your name, sorry!)*** I don't really have any advice about the paci, but i wanted to say welcome, I hope you join us! Melissa*** How is Molly doing? Lisa B. *** Hope you get back soon, i am wondering what your boss said. Hello to all I missed, I know there are many! Hope all is going well. Christi & Caleb email: plumbs@coiinc.com Thursday, February 10, 2000 at 09:07:32 (EST)) Hi from LisaB. I'll be back later today to post. I had training all day last Friday and 1/2 the day Monday. Then I got sick with the stomach flu Monday and just finally made it back to work today - and will spend 1/2 the day taking Max to the ear doctor to see about getting tubes. Chat more later! LisaB Thursday, February 10, 2000 at 10:33:17 (EST)) Hi from CathyG... Phew, I thought the site was gone for good. I wonder what the problem was?? I am generally desperate, because I love ordering from the internet, and now with this panic I may not be able to! Good news on 2 fronts for me! First, Alison's bum has cleared up!! After being sooo bad a week ago, it is as good as new. I tried the latest sample from the dermatologist - it's Fucidin (an antibiotic cream with HC) and I've been using it once a day, and it has been amazing. And second, I just went to speak to my boss, and he has agreed to let me stay at 3 days per week, and we will discuss later in the summer about moving to 4 days in September (that's a long time off, right!) So I am relieved. Alison has "stolen" her big sister's bear, and it is a great source of trauma in the house. This is not Emma's favorite bear, but she says that she was "just starting to have a relationship with him". (She is 5). Alison has decided that she loves this particular bear also, and tries to give him milk, etc. She would not go to bed last night without him. On to a long list of personals: Helen - I am glad Amanda liked the playgroup, and too bad that you didn't connect with any moms there. I miss going to my playgroup so much, the women were so wonderful. I am still doing the books for them so I get a chance to visit them once in a while. I hope you can find a good group. I'm happy for you starting the Zoloft. Good luck with the holiday preparations - you made me laugh with the tanned fat line. Julianne - Colton sounds like a monkey with the salt shaker. How are things going with you? Hayley - Glad everything worked out and it was a false alarm. You have made me hungry for Indian food. Becca sounds very adventurous. Good luck while DH is away. I would love to have a business trip - but can't see any on the horizon. Since I have had kids I have had 2 trips, and for both of them, I have had to stay in military quarters, so I wasn't able to enjoy any of the luxuries of travel. Lisa B - Hope your muscles are holding up. Max has an ear infection, poor thing. Hope the Dr. app't goes well. SarahG - Good luck working things through with your husband. Patty - how many snow days have you had now. I think Alison is a little monster girl - I have a hard time corralling her too. Kahne - glad you had a hot weekend. How is the pink-eye. Beth - good thing Allison did it on the kitchen floor. I can't believe your FIL - he sounds ignorant. I hope they don't have to stay with you for long. Good luck to DH and to you as Nurse. Louise - Glad you guys are feeling better. How are you making out with DH away? Does he travel a lot so you are used to it? I didn't realize you worked, I thought you were a SAHM. What do you do? Sue - Enjoy your cuddlebug while it lasts. I have also found that IHLE's paste works well as a barrier - it is a super thick Zinc. So you are a nearly-40 mom too? How near? Christi - hope you can work things out with the little girl's parents. Birdie - hope you had a great weekend and that Noah's teeth are better. No advice from me re. long car trips - the longest I've done is 5 hours, which to me was ok. Rita - I'd love to trade scrapbook ideas, but I don't have a scanner. I am going to an all day workshop on Feb 19 - I am so excited I am now trying to imagine how much I could get done, and how much I should bring. Stacey - good luck with your meetings and presentation. I will be looking at your web site soon. Michelle - yay for Evan! He's not old - 2.5 is fine for training, it's when I started with Emma. Melissa - how are you and Molly doing? What is she up to now? Rebecca - Croup is so scary, isn't it/ They sound so bad. Your friend was very inconsiderate, I can't imagine how someone could do that! Katy - Congrats on the new house. Hope DH is OK. Moriah - I loved your website. Good luck with the diet. I have a hard time getting my fruits and veggies too. Shelley - I do wish you good luck with DH. Kelli - Alison hits too, and also pinches and scratches. Let us know about the U/S. Kelli with Trevor - I would definately take his soother out while he is up playing. It will be difficult bu hang in there - maybe do it gradually. I've got some friends/relatives with children with slow speech, plus I know that Alison is behind her older sister, so I've asked the Dr. about it. Is he the second child - they are generally slower? At 18 months, they should be saying about 12 workds that YOU can identify. Also, you should be alert for any signs that he is not hearing you. Otherwise, yes, he will speak when he is ready, and try not to worry. Wow - That's it for me. Bye all! CathyG and Alison (18 months) Thursday, February 10, 2000 at 13:00:31 (EST)) Hi everyone. It's Sue and Cameron. So glad to be able to get on here today! Looks like things have been pretty slow - I guess that could be a good thing. LOL. I have a questions for you more experienced mommies about Cameron napping. Or, I should say, not napping. He has always been so good about going down for naps and also for bed at night. The past 10 days or so, he just refuses to nap during the day. He'll be rubbing his eyes, whiny, and so tired he can barely sit up straight, but he freaks out as soon as you try to put him down for a nap. He stands up, tosses his bear, blanket, or binky out, then HOWLS at the top of his lungs. This can go on for an hour or more. Yesterday he slept a total of 30 minutes during the day and only 20 the day before. Needless to say, he is a mess by bedtime. He's also so overtired he doesn't sleep well at night. He does it at daycare and at home. He's only 13 months old so I know he still needs at least one decent nap during the day. Any suggestions? Okay, enough of problems for today! On to personals: HELEN - first, good for you for "coming out of the clost" about your PPD. I think Rebecca, Patty, myself and some other moms with PPD all did the same thing - waiting for things to just get better by themselves for months and months. Hope you feel much better soon. I didn't even begin to enjoy Cameron until he was 9 months old - wish I had seen the doc sooner. Never be embarrassed to talk about stuff here! Second, my week of Slimfast was not-so-slim and not-so-fast! It doesn't taste bad, but gave me terrible stomach woes. Maybe I'll lose weight because I can't get out of the bathroom long enough to eat anything! LOL!! REBECCA - do you still consider that little boy's mom your friend? Yipes! I don't know what goes through some people's heads. LISAB- sorry to hear you had the flu ontop of m/s! We missed you. KELLI - your stories about Elizabeth crack me up. Cam also loves to wear bowls, pans, towels, etc. on his head. He looks so goofy but so cute. I know I'm missing a whole bunch of people, but have to run. The office is crazy from being short-handed. I suppose the giant raise I got at the beginning of the week makes it worthwhile though. Yeehaa! Love, kisses, etc. to all you moms and todds. Sue and Cameron email: sbarry@key.org Thursday, February 10, 2000 at 13:06:01 (EST)) Hello from Rita Glad to see the board is "working" again. I e-mailed the web mother about some of the access problems yesterday. Work sucks right now. My boss mentioned to the other managers that he wanted to promote me and was turned down at this time. Since I have to work in two locations and work on two different products, they don't see all the things that I have been doing (and frankly, they don't care about our old product and the work needed to sustain it). It certainly makes me feel like a Cinderella who never gets to go to the ball. I think I need a lot more than a fairy godmother! Kelli - Hello to you. Sounds like you are doing a lot, so don't worry. I can't imagine having the MS with a toddler. Elizabeth sounds like such a character. There still isn't much you can do about hitting at her age, other that stopping her and making eye contact to tell her no. True time-outs don't work until a bit later. We have found that taking things away from Maddy these days, is more effective. Kelli with Trevor - Welcome. We are currently weaning our 13 mo old from the binky, too. We started by restricting it only to nap and bed time. In a few months we will remove it all together. This method worked really well for our older DD. Cathy G - I qualify for the close to forty category, too - 37 in ten days. Never thought that I would have such little ones at this age - I had thought to have them in my mid-twenties. Oh well. At my last midnight madness crop (5 hours), I did about six pages. I only brought what I thought I would need for those pages to minimize what I had to carry. Hi Sue! Lisa B - What a weekend you have had! I certainly don't envy you the flu on top of everything else that you have. Patty - Please send the picture of Jarin in your heels. What a great blackmail picture for those teenage years... Hey Debbie are you around? How are you? Moriah - Too cute about your little "scooter". Alex sounds like such a ham. I am sure that you are enjoying every minute! Thanks for the update on Rachel. Shelly - Well, well...Wishing you the best with DH. Sounds like a romantic story in the making. Christi - Maddy uses wipes to clean her dolls' faces. Beth - I hope that you are survivng with your FIL around. Well, I had better get back to work. Take care everyone! Rita & Amy(13 mos) email: ritad@home.com Thursday, February 10, 2000 at 14:25:38 (EST)) Hi again from LisaB. Monday night I started vomiting, diarhea, low-grade fever, etc. Thankfully (?) it was the flu and not m/s. I started eating and drinking again yesterday but I'm still dragging and feeling like crap. The DCP had Max make me "Get Well Soon, Mommy" card yesterday - used finger paints to put both hands and feet on it. It was adorable!!!! The doc went ahead and put me on Pheregan to prevent nausea and hopefully keep the flu from aggrevating my m/s (that's how all my problems started last pregnancy - flu, then sinus, and then excessive m/s ... once I start vomiting I have tons of trouble ever getting it to stop). They checked for EVERYTHING at the doc yesterday to make sure this was just the flu (my regular doc, not the OB), including POUNDING ON MY STOMACH! I'm not sure what the purpose of that was but it sure didn't help settle my tummy down any! This weekend Max started giving me naked hugs again when he gets out of the tub! The poor kid couldn't understand why Mommy was ignoring him most of this week. The fluid from his Thanksgiving ear infection FINALLY cleared up - no hearing loss and no tubes!!!! WOO HOO!!!! I was soooo excited. He's started playing "row, row, row your boat" with the 4 year old at DC (they sit together and she sings the song, while making rowing motions with his arms). Only ABI can play boat with him (he goes up to her and says "boat, boat, boat" until she plays it with him) and he's also decided that Abi can only play with him, not with the other kids also! He also said "milk" Monday night for the first time. The lady I loaned my maternity clothes to (the one who spotted them, tore them, etc.) gave me a thank you card and a $25 Bath & Body Works gift certificate Monday. I was floored!!! Well, here's all my personals. I know it's a huge list but HEY, I was gone for an entire week!!! Sarah G: Glad to know Max isn't the only one who has periodic "feet explosions". We no sooner find a pair of shoes that fit and go on easy than he outgrows them and the process starts all over. I hope DH gets better soon; has he seen a counselor or sought treatment for possible depression? I think the best thing to do, if a separation happens, is to be entirely upfront with the kids. Tell them that Daddy's gone and if/when he might come back and why (in general terms) he's gone. I think uncertainty fosters false hopes that everything will work out ok and if kids aren't told otherwise they assume the breakup is their fault. PATTY: So you finally went back to work, huh?! I would love a picture of Jarin in his pumps! KAHNE: I'm glad Cat is feling better. BETH: I remember when Max's diaper was loose once (after DH changed him) and he pooped on the kitchen floor - GROSS!!!! CHRISTIE: Yeah on Caleb staying dry all night! Post your DC vents here all you want; it helps to "see the other side"! SUE: Cameron sounds so sweet cuddling and "sharing". HELEN: Good luck with treating your depression. BIRDIE: Your little comedianne sounds adorable! I would take a portable crib. I've stayed in hotels with cribs and most of them are ancient and don't meet the current safety guidelines. I think an inflatable bed would work. Take tons of toys, books, etc. to amuse Noah in the carseat and try some kids musical tapes. Also, be prepared for LOTS of stops so he can stretch his legs. Yep, I get tired of the urban legend e-mails and also think they probably just give some sicko new ideas for stuff to try. STACEY: Best of luck with impeding job and location changes. I love your web page; your girls are adorable. You're also very pretty. For some reason I always pictured you as a bubbly blonde!! ANGELA: Good luck. I have a 17-month old and am due in September so I'm hoping I don't end up with a similar situation (and I'm looking forward to seeing the advice you get). LIZ: Hi, stranger! I hope you and Forest feel better soon. PATTY: I used to take my little bro to basketball games when he was a toddler. Once a friend watched him so I could go to the bathroom. I come back and the whole game is stopped, John (my bro) is standing in the middle of the court screaming and scared to death, and the whole crowd is YELLING at him to get off the court. My friend (a guy, of course) had told John to run across the court to "meet me" when they saw me come back in the gym. I was so humilated I thought about just ignoring John but didn't as I felt so bad for him. Of course, I IMMEDIATELY chewed my friend out. MICHELLE: Yeah on Evan being potty trained! MELISSA: How cute of Molly and sleeping "a couple of days"! I live in central Missouri. REBECCA: I hope Paige is better soon. I'm sorry William was such a pain (and his mom was so inconsiderate). KATY: I'm so glad you're getting a bigger place! Will insurance pay you anything on the totaled car (yours or the hit-and-run driver?)? BETH: I would also be upset at FIL - why doesn't MIL or SIL mention this behavior to DH (as if he's like my DH he wouldn't necessarily believe me if I told him this was going on)? I hope the inlaws don't stay with you. MORIAH: Great news on Rachel!! SHELLY: I'm glad things are going well with you and your esx. KELLI w/ TREVOR: I would try to gradually wean Trevor from the pacifer, to where he only uses it for naps and bedtime. The 24-mo old at daycare used to talk and now refuses to - as a control issue. It's also possible that Trevor has hearing problems from repeated ear infections or another cause; has his hearing been checked? I think it's common for little ones to be "stubborn" about talking. Some actually skip words and start with full sentences!!! CATHY G: I'm glad Alison's diaper rash is finally better. Congrats on being a part-time SAHM!!! SUE: When Max is overtired I have to put him in my lap and physically hold him still. He screamed for 1-2 minutes and then falls right to sleep. If I leave him alone to go to sleep he'll fight it so hard that he actually falls asleep. LisaB & Max (17 months) & 8 wks pg email: lisa_lab@hotmail.com Thursday, February 10, 2000 at 14:29:53 (EST)) A quick note to RITA: You work for a private company, don't you? I work for state government and we can submit our own requests for a promotion if we feel our job duties exceed those of our assigned job classification. Do you have written job categories with job expectations? If you, you might be able to document in writing that your job duties are more geared towards a higher position than the one you're in now. It can't hurt, can it?! LisaB Thursday, February 10, 2000 at 14:36:27 (EST)) HELLO.....from long lost SARAH!!! Finally I was able to get on here again. I haven't been able to since a week ago Tuesday!!! ARGH!! THANKS PATTY!!!!!!!! I was going crazy not hearing about you gals and your little ones! Well, it's gonna take me forever to catch up, so I'm starting fresh. It's gonna be a selfish post, okay? HANNAH is really developing an attitude! What about you guys? She knows what she wants, and if she doesn't get it......LOOK OUT!!! Drives me nuts. Needless to say, we'll be using time out's alot more. She finally got one of her eye teeth in!! :) :) She does something new to amaze me every day! She's really been interested in "walking" up and down the stairs now (like adults do). She's pretty good at it if she can hold on to something (the rail, the wall, etc). It makes me very nervous though! Do any of you have big plans for Valentine's Day? We have a sitter for Saturday night, so we'll probably do something then. Well ladies, that's all for now. I'm sure I'll think of a million other things as soon as I log off. :) Talk to you all later. SOOOO good to be back! :) Sarah and Hannah (17 months) email: smoore@geatoir.cfer.com Thursday, February 10, 2000 at 15:01:23 (EST)) Geez, I'm gone for a week and then I just can't stop posting!!! I forgot to tell you my bosses reaction to my pg. My immediate boss said "Congrats - you can have 1 week of maternity leave!". He later told me "I guess Tom missed you that week we were in Texas, huh?!". The "big" boss sent me a small bouquet of violets with a big Congrats sticker deal. They both were really cool about it and really excited for me. My other co-workers were excited also but I'm gotten a trillion comments this morning about "oh, you have awful m/s again, huh?", etc. UGH!!!! Can't a pg lady be sick without it being m/s? I get the feeling they've started an office pool on when I'll get my first IV fluids, when I'll be admitted to the hospital for severe m/s, etc. I'm guess my anti-social cynical self is showing, isn't it?! LisaB Thursday, February 10, 2000 at 15:01:59 (EST)) Julianne here once again. I could not get on the board since last week Tuesday. Sarah e-mailed me a tip on how to connect and it worked! I was beginning to get major TT w/drawel. Colton saw the dr yesterday for his ear re-check. Not so good news. He still has fluid in his ears. The dr did a test to see how much his ear drum moved w/ sound and both ears responsed: FLAT! He is starting to worry about the affects the fluid may be having on his ears so I have to set up a visit w/ an ENT specialist. That can take up to a month to get in though. He did give me a new prescription to try to see if that would help. I also found out yesterday that I didn't get the job that I had interviewed for and really wanted. :( I was really bummed but understood. It was between me and one other person and they had more experience hiring production workers as I only did that occasionally in my job. I have only 3 more weeks here and then I am unemployed. The stress level at our house is very high right now. Colton has been having fun w/ sledding and snowmobiling. He loves to be pulled around in the sled--good workout for me too! I got DH 2 tickets to see Riverdance for Valentine's Day. He better take me. LOL. He is just facinated by it whenever it is on TV so I thought that would be fun and something he would never guess I would get him. Sorry no personals as my post would be pages and pages for missing so many days! Julianne & Colton 18 mo email: jjones@batts.com Thursday, February 10, 2000 at 15:57:11 (EST)) Wow, I guess the problem was fixed, it has been a busy board today! Christi again. Well, I have been having thoughts of going back to work--any oppinions? The teachers aid at DD's prescool gave her resignation last week. It would be kind of perfect, I would have kids in daycare for only 15 hours a week. First we (the board) have decided to try to find a certified teacher, if that isn't possible we will settle for an aid. Then I would have to apply like everyone else. We will see. The teacher they are interviewing sounds like a shoe in, but the idea is there for another type of job. I need to get out of the house, more than once a month. I will have some new pictures pretty soon, let me know if you want to see my baby. On to personals CATHY G.*** Yeah on Alison's bottom clearing up, and on 3 day work weeks! RITA*** Sorry you didn't get the promotion you deserve.:-( SUE*** That is about the same age Caleb went thru that no nap stage. There really isn't any thing to do but keep trying. LISA B.***Hope you feel better soon, and that this doesn't trigger anything else. Sounds like you have a great DCP! So nice to have a card made. I am glad to hear your bosses were so happy for you and supportive. When I once told my boss we were TTC he told me "You are replaceable" Talk about job security. :-) Nice of the lady to give you a nice thank you and gift cert. maybe it took her that long to be able to afford the $25, I know how that feels! Still a card alone, and respect for your things would have been nicer. SARAH*** No plans for valentines here JULIANNE***Sorry about your not getting the job you hoped for. And about Colton's ears, I will be praying for your family! Guess I better go, Hi to all I missed Christi & Caleb 15 months email: plumbs@coiinc.com Thursday, February 10, 2000 at 16:31:44 (EST)) Hi all, I forgot one thing. I recieved an e-mail from Debbi Conklin about the trip to Chicago, it will be in the summer--they are working on room accomadations and it was looking at about $99 per night, transportation was unknown. If anyone is interested I still have the letter, let me know. Bye, again! Christi again email: plumbs@coiinc.com Thursday, February 10, 2000 at 18:27:57 (EST)) I don't believe it - first I can't post for five days (Lynda here) - then I get back, write a monster post to catch up on two weeks of personals and then I stuff up and lose the post!!!!!Argh I could scream!!!!!! Well hi - here I go again with (some of) what I typed before but you never got to see. Things have been pretty good lately - work is under control (Just), Dh is behaving himself, (by not going to bars when he should be home), I am managing to fit some running and swimming in so the triathalon shouldn't be too painful and best of all Ella is 100% healthy AND sleeping through the night on a regular basis for the last week. (First time in around 6mths or so) DH and I did controlled crying with Ella 2 weeks ago the first 3 nights were bad with around 2 hours of crying, but the fourth night - she woke and cried only a tiny bit (less than a minute) and went back to sleep. Ever since then - bliss - uninterupted sleep. I know not everyone is in favour of this method - but I can't argue with the result. Anyway on to some personals ( a mix of old notes and new): Louise: - Thanks for missing me. Hope you and James are feeling better and that DH is now back to help with things. Congrats on your move to being a SAHM. Patty: Sorry to hear about your Doctor. I too am a POV fan - but we are about a year behind you guys - Kirsten and Charlie have just got back together. Happy to hear about future happenings though. Melissa, Jenifer and Liz: Welcome. Cathy G: I had an old note about Alisons nappy rash but now I see you have sorted it out. Thats great! - it is terrible when they have a discomfort and you can't seem to fix it no matter what you try. Kelli: Have you had your ultrasound yet? How are the twins? LOL!! Lisa B: You poor thing - now the flu ? Hang in there :) Beth: Your poo story (in the cot) sounded yucky. How is Allison eating these days ? Can you please explain to a poor dumb Aussie what Happy Hump Day means ? Moriah: - I can just picture Alex getting into the wipes. Ella loves them too - and tissues and toilet paper. I have and old tissue box with a scarf in it to pull out - she quite likes that - but not as much as the real thing. Walking will be much more fun with others to go with - chance for a good gossip hey? Rebecca: 9hrs!!!! What happened to your "friend" so that a couple of hours turned into 9 ?? Your comment about being cured of the baby desire got me thinking - maybe I should "borrow" a second baby for a day to see what it is like before DH and I decide when/if to start for number 2. Just one more thing - any opinions on what a good age difference between babies is ? DH and I have had a few discussions on the topic. Pre Ella (when we knew zero about babies) we thought 2 years would be a good space, now I am thinking what a handful! If we stick to our 2 years, we would need to start TTC in around 2 mths - the thought is a bit scary. Well hopefully this will now post - if it doesn't you will never know becuase I am going to give up! Lynda & Ella email: ljpyjoung@ozemail.com.au Friday, February 11, 2000 at 06:36:07 (EST)) Hello from Helen&Amanda!! I've been taking notes-- so glad things are back to normal and we can all get on here again-- missed all you 'strangers'!!!!I'll be back later after the kids are in school- its ski day and i have to drive them with all their equipment--later! Helen&Amanda@18mos(DS@13yrs&DD@11yrs). email: mhim27@hotmail.com Friday, February 11, 2000 at 08:47:56 (EST)) Good morning from CathyG... It took forever to get into work today (45 minutes, which is long for me) because we had a big dump of snow overnight. It is still snowing - I think we are paying now for missing those storms a couple of weeks back. I actually had to wake Alison up to get her ready today, usually she is awake by the time I start my shower. It is so hard to see her so cosy and have to wake her. Sue - what sort of a pre-nap routine do you do? I have always tried to tell Alison a little while before nap and bedtime that it is coming up, so that she knows, and can start thinking about it. We always read a couple of books, and have a little snuggle with her blanket and her soother before she goes into bed. (a little bit of a slowing down period) She will sometime fuss a bit at naptime, but settles down after about 10 minutes. At night I have started leaving a light on in her room so she can look at books for a while (about 10 minutes), and she seems to like this as well. Good luck. Rita - at least you have a boss that recognizes your work - that is positive. Hope you can get some visability for your off-site work. If I use you as a benchmark - I could get about 15 pages done at the workshop - that would be fantastic. I might get Emma's album caught up, so I could then get started on Aliosn's. Lisa B - hope you are feeling better today. Sounds like Max has a crush!! Your bosses took the news quite well, I'd say. Sarah - Alison is very interested in walking up the stairs to, and is also trying to go down them too. At Emma's skating, she now spend all the time going up and down the stairs while I sit and hold her hand so she can practice being like a big girl. We're going out on Saturday too - we've made reservations at a French restaurant near us that has been around forever - DH used to go with his parents. I've never been, but want to try it because it's the only thing nearby that isn't a chain, or doesn't give out toys. Julianne - I am so sorry about the job, and also about Colton's ear. I bet things are difficult right now. Are you getting any severance at the end of the 3 weeks, or do you qualify for unemployment insurance (I am unfamiliar with what you have in the US). Christi - I have sure enjoyed going back to work, because it is nice to interact with people a bit more. I am finding it is fun, and I look forward to it - it is a good break for me. Helps that it is work that I really like, plus the 3 days a week is just enough to keep it fun. Lynda - you are going in a triatalon?? Wow - how did you get in such good shape to try it? Have you done one before? I'm glad Ella's sleeping is better. I don't think there is a "right" amount of space between babies - mine are 4 years apart (not planned that way, it just happened), and my oldest has been a real help to me, more than she could have been if there were only 2 years between them. I think closer together may provide a closer bond, but not necessarily - my DH and his siter are 13 months apart, and not very close today, and my brother and I are 2 years and the same thing. Also it may not work out as you planned - may take longer or shorter than you think. By everyone - have a great day, and happy valentine's! CathyG and Alison (18 months) Friday, February 11, 2000 at 10:37:34 (EST)) Hello from both Julianne and Colton. Colton is here at work with me for a short while. I was getting my nails done and got a call that DH and Colton were at my work looking for me. Evidently Colton got hurt at daycare and since they couldn't get ahold of me they called DH. Colton fell and bit his lip really bad. He has a big gash, and we can't tell if his tooth went all the way through or not. DH didn't get any details of what happened! You know if it had been me picking him up and I din't find out what happened I would be in big trouble. I will call daycare and get the details! We see the dr in an hour! Two visits to the dr in the same week. Christi: The job sounds great-go for it. I would love to see the new pictures. Also, please let me know the details of the Chicage meeting this summer. I already told DH that we are going! Patty: Thanks for the picture of Jarin in the pumps. Great photo. Linda: Yeah for Ella sleeping through the night. CathyG: I hate to wake Colton up for daycare too. I usually end of getting to work late on those days. I do get a really good severance package since I am losing my job because of a plant closing. I get 14 weeks of pay (2 wks/year of service) plus 60 days after I am formally noticed (Federal WARN act). However, I don't want to have to use that money since we want to build this year. It would be great to go towards new furniture. DH says that if I don't get a job soon then we will wait until next year to build so that adds to my anxiety! Have a great Valentine's weekend everyone. We hope the other driver's insurance will cover everything. We didn't have our policy yet because we just bought that car last month and the policy was supposed to start on the 1st. Anyway we have lawyers to sue. Thanks again to everyone for their concern. Would write more, but I have to work on a paper. ICK! First the personals--- LISAB-- Glad the bosses took the news well. Good that Max's ears are feeling better! Thats so nice that the girl gave you the card and gift certificate, even if it was a while ago that you lent her the clothes. KELLI&TREVOR-- Decrease the day time that Trevor has the pacifier, this will give him more opportunity to become more verbal--- do it slowly so its not such a shock to him-- DS had his until 2.4yrs and wasn't saying much b/f we took it-- then he wouldn/t shut up!! :O) He went from not saying much to sentences at about 20 something mos-- he'll talk when he's ready. SARAH&HANNAH--Yes-- I know the attitude your referring to-- Amanda screams NOOOOO and Thattttttt all the time, really gets an attitude when the kids are teasing her- they love to and think she is SOOO cute when she is mad! PATTY--- Send pics!! Oh no-- DD is not going to outgrow the 'messies' soon is she!!LOL! CATHYG-- Glad to hear Alison's bum is better- thats the worst! Too funny about the bear stealing! HAYLEY-- The pre-school tests the kids?? Thats sad- don't they get enough of that when they are in real school? Hope you enjoyed your 'week off' without DH.Do you have to travel often- I don't think I could ever leave the kids b/c of work- miss them too much! :O) JULIANNE-- Sorry about the job! Poor Colton-- hope he is going to be ok!!!! SUE-- I think the slim-fast is really high in fiber and makes you gassy and in the toilet a lot-- it says to drink tons of water w/it-- I think it helps w/the gas and BM's. KELLI-- Well I guess the time outs are a joke!! She will outgrow it, if you can last that long! Just keep telling her no hitting and eventually she will get the message. I went to WW this week and lost 1.4-- total of 4.8lbs. DD just called and skiing is cancelled today again so I have to go back to school and get the equipment-- what a pain-- its raining on and off-- have a great weekend all- Later!! Nolan and I have missed him horribly. Nolan has been great all week though. He has slept through the night and everything all week. The only thing he hasn't been doing great is eatting, he refuses to eat anything but his breakfast. I'm hoping it's just because he misses Dh. We got the townhouse........ we move Feb. 29th. I can hardly wait. I'm not sure if my parents or my in-laws are keeping Nolan while we move. Hopefully my parents. My parents leave for Las Vegas on Monday for a week. I wish it was me. I hate the winter. We had freezing rain last night. I didn't read the personals today, I don't have time today. I'll try and catch up over the week-end if I have time. Well I guess I should go Nolan will be waking from his nap anytime. Have a great week-end everyone. Darleen & Nolan 15 mths email: j7smith@hotmail j7smith@ciaccess.com Friday, February 11, 2000 at 16:00:11 (EST)) Hello from long lost Debbie. Remember me? LOL I haven't posted in a long, long time. But I have been reading from time to time. It seems like everytime I would try to post one of the girls needed me or it was just taking too long to get on here. Thanks for getting our site fixed. Here's a little update during my absence. This is the real depressing one, I turned 44, YES 44 in January and have been feeling every bit of it. Over The Hill! The girls have been going back and forth with eye infections, colds and now they both have pink eye. I still have my sinus infection (going on 2 years now) which has turned into a head cold and now I have laryngitis and my throat hurts like heck. I have a appt with a ENT dr for a C scan the end of this month to see if this is sinus problems or allergies. I am SO tired of this. My ears were plugged for a week, so I couldn't hear and now I can't talk. Over The Hill!!! Maddie is becoming a HAND FULL! I can't believe some of the things she is saying to us. She called me stupid one day, and I said "what did you say?", of course she said it again (I don't think she knows what it means) I told her that was not a nice thing to say and not to say it again. (Rita, sound familiar?) We could not figure out where she was hearing this. Then one day I was reading Aladdin to her and stupid came out of my mouth. I guess I was not hearing or seeing what I had been reading before so I quickly changed the words. She is with her grandparents for a few days, thank goodness. I can't believe she will be turning 3 very soon. She is growing up so fast. But not too fast, still in those darn diapers. Emilee went for her 15 month visit Tuesday. She is 18lbs 12oz, 30 1/4". She is so petite. I was really getting worried about her eating habits. She would not eat baby food or table food. I tired cutting up, mashing, dicing you name it. Then one day something clicked. She now eats only table food and lots of it. She can eat more than Maddie at times. She is saying more words everyday, but only dh & myself know what they mean. She is working really hard to get them out. Our play group has been alot of fun. But there are two moms who bring their babies sick. I know that's how Maddie & Emilee got pink eye. I will not take the girls if they have a runny nose, watery eyes, etc. I have told the moms I will not bring the girls while they are sick and they say "Oh it's ok", I don't think so! Maybe I'm overreacting but that's what I believe in. Germs spread so easily, hello...I guess these moms don't know this! The play group that we are starting with the Healthy Start/Community Connection for Kids is going slow. All the paper work, legal ends, funding. Hopefully we will have it going soon. Kelli & Lisa - I tried almonds and grape juice for m/s, it really helped me. Everyone who has pictures, please send them. Thanks. Hope you all are doing great and enjoying your little ones. Talk to you soon. I'll try not to be gone for so long. I missed you all! Kelly email: mama_r@hotmail.com Friday, February 11, 2000 at 19:30:31 (EST)) Hi mommies. I'm so glad our board is back! I took Jesse to the Dr. on Wednesday and he had a throat infection. Yesterday I came home from work just as DH was getting ready to take Jarin to the Dr since he had been running fever. You guessed it - throat infection for Jarin too. Now they are both on antibiotics, Jesse is feeling better and I hope by tomorrow Jarin is more like himself. He also has some MAJOR diaper rash. Poor baby. He SCREAMED when I changed him yesteday and then even cried in the tub because his little bottom is so red. I've been using the nystatin we got when he was in the hospital and it's starting to look better, so I hope by tomorrow that's back to normal too. Otherwise, we are doing fine. I just finished a whole week at work - can you believe it? LOL. And today we had our Valentine Parties. (Don't ask me why we're not having them Monday, who knows?) I HATE party days. The kids are so hyper!!!! ** Picture of Jarin in his pumps on the way to Kelli, Rita, Christi, LisaB, Helen, and Debbie. Thanks for asking. =) **Hayley: An aptitude test for a 2 year old? Give me a break. I think things are getting a little out of control. They don't do any testing here for our Kindergartners. Sometimes I wish they would, but unless they went to preschool, we really don't know until they get to us. Good luck with all the applications and stuff. **Kelli with Trevor: I wouldn't worry about Trevor not talking. My son had his paci until he was close to 3. He started talking about 18 months and by 2 he was saying sentences. I would just reduce the time like everyone else said. **Kelli: "Aahh, baby" - that is too cute, and so is the bowls for "Mommy Hat". She sounds pretty precocious. This full week of work seemed to last forever. I was so ready for today to be Friday. Let us know about the Ultrasound! **CathyG: Yay for Alison's bum finally being better. And Yay for you getting to stay 3 days / week. The bear fight is so cute, especially with Emma's "relationship with him". LOL. So, you have a monster girl to compare with my monster boy, huh? They are such fun. We've had five snow days so far. Sounds like you have it now. **Sue: Hope Cam gets back into the napping routine soon. Jarin went through that phase as well. Sorry to hear the Slimfast week didn't go well. Yay for your giant raise! **Rita: Sorry that work is bad for you right now. Hope you get a promotion soon. **LisaB: UGH - I hope you are feeling better soon. Glad you are getting those naked hugs again. They are the best. Good for Max not having to get tubes. I hope his ears stay healthy now. Glad that lady finally responded with a thank you note and gift certificate. Have fun spending it. =) Oh, your poor little brother! He must've been petrified. **Sarah: So Hannah is getting an attitude too? It must be this age. Jarin also tries to walk down the stairs and it makes me a wreck too. **Christi: I'd love to see Caleb when you get new pics. I'd also like to see the letter about Chicago. I'd love to go and meet some of you. **Lynda: Yay for Ella sleeping. I'm glad the controlled crying worked for you. We ended up resorting to that too. Glad things are going so well for you. I'll try to remember you are behind us, so I don't spoil Party of Five for you. **Julianne: I hope Colton's lip is ok. Happy 19 month birthday! **Helen: Yep, I think the "messies" are there for a while, if DD is anything like mine. Congrats on your weight loss. =) **Debbie: Gees, you over the hill sickie! LOL I hope you get better soon and the girls as well. Some parents are so dumb - I don't doubt for a second that some bring their children to playgroup sick. I know some kids that come to school have absolutely no business being there on some days. Emilee is almost the same size Jarin was at his 15 month check up. **Ok, I think that's it for me today. Take care. We had a couple over for dinner tonight, she was my best friend in high school, then she went to collage, I got married. Our lives are very different now, but we all get along well.....anyway. We had them over, and ordered pizza, and had a nice salad and garlic bread etc. after dinner I told DD we could open the box of chocolates they brought and have some for dessert. I had the FULL box of gormet chocolate and went to offer some to the lady and dumped the whole pound of it on her and the floor! I wanted to die! But, thankfully they were very good sports, we picked it up and all had a piece. After they left we laughed like crazy! The rest of the night was nice, and hey, most of my spring cleaning is done now! Patty*** Thanks for the picture of Jarin, he is so cute! I will forward Debi's letter in a minute. Julianne*** I am sending the letter to you too. Kelly***HI! I'm in working on Sat. as I forgot the sitter is off Monday ... so after missing 1/2 of last week I have to beg to get Monday afternoon off. DH will be ticked as he'll have to take Max with him for DH's doctor visit as I have a 3 hour meeting Mon. morning (rescheduled from last week) that I CAN'T miss and can't take Max to. I was still feeling puny yesterday but feel much better today. My best friend from college and her DH were supposed to come over last night but due to various factors they didn't make it. I haven't seen them in about a year and was disappointed, but also glad as I was tired, Max was fussy (they don't have kids and therefore aren't necessarily "tolerant" of fussiness), etc. KELLI: How did the u/s go?! JULIANNE: Max had that hearing test a month ago - one ear was completely flat. It tested ok at the ENT on Thurs. thou and the fluid was gone ... so there is hope for Colton. I'm sorry the job didn't come thru. Great severance package. We built when I was pg with Max. As long as you can avoid the monthly payments, go for it. You can live with your old furniture for awhile if you need to and face it, there's never a "perfect" time to do anything! I'm sorry to hear about Colton's busted lip. CHRISTI: I would love pix of your little ones. If you think it'll make you happy, go back to work. I would love to be a SAHM but only part-time as I NEED the adult interaction and stimulation of working. I think being a DCP would be the hardest job ever. Please send me the letter on the Chicago trip! PATTY: I loved the pump photo!!! Poor Jarin ... sore throat and butt. KATY: In MO they won't let you license a car unless you show proof of insurance. I hope the other driver's insurance will cover the repairs. I'm glad DH is doing ok. How's school and Liam? DARLEEN: I'm glad you got the townhouse! DEBBIE: Welcome back! I'm sorry to hear you've all been so sick and that Maddie is such a handfull. KELLY: Welcome! Where do you live in Missouri? I live near Rolla and work in Jefferson City for the state. Ella is sitting on my knee right now (helping with typing!).....Not a good idea - she's back on the floor now so I can get on with this. It is Sunday morning here and we have just come back from taking Ella to a local pond to feed the ducks. Needless to say there was no way she was going to throw the stale bread to the ducks - very piece I gave her she ate! Personals: Cathy G: re the triathalon, I have done "mini" ones for the last 10 ir so years, excluding 1998 because I was pregnant. I have found it quite hard to get back into shape after 12 mths without much excercise. But my main goal is just to finish without too much pain. What you said about the age gap and siblings being close/not close makes sense. Julianne: Hope Colton is okay after his fall. Helen: Congrats on the continuing weight loss. Debbie: Ella and I go to playgroup and have had the same problem with mothers bringing sick kids. One baby had bronchiolitis and the whole group ended up getting it - two of them (Ella and one other) still have problems because of it. It is very selfish of the mothers to not stay home when their babies are ill. (I am very sensitive about it and if any child looks ill at the group, I try and make sure Ella keeps away from them - which can be quite difficult to do). Kelly: - Hi and welcome to the board. I am also 34. I live in Aust and have a 13 mth old called Ella. I work p/t and SAH p/t. Patty: Sorry to hear both Jesse and Jarin are sick - best wishes for speedy recoveries (and that you and DH stay healthy) Christi: LOL about the chocolates - it wouldn't stop me from eating them either. LisaB - glad to hear you are feeling better. Enjoy your weekend - any special plans for valentines day ? Lynda and Ella email: ljpjyoung@ozemail.com.au Saturday, February 12, 2000 at 19:26:05 (EST)) Hi mommies. DH had to work tonight, so I took Jaime, Jesse, and Jarin to church with me. What a mistake! Jarin was absolutely awful. He started in pulling at my shirt and "uh, uh, uh" as soon as we got there (wanting to nurse). I tried to distract him and he kept whining. I'd be able to distract him for a while and then he'd start in again. I just wanted to make it to Communion, but as Father got ready, Jarin threw himself back and started screaming, so I made a hasty retreat to the cry room and nursed him. UGH! At the end, Father Ron said to Jarin, "So you were trying to give your own little sermon tonight, huh?" LOL. Jesse is acting like he feels totally better. He had a basketball game today and they lost again big time. They are now 0-4. DH is the coach. LOL. But the kids have fun and that's all that matters. Jarin went to bed last night and cried for about 30 minutes. He hasn't done that for a long time. Then he was awake screaming at 2:50. DH brought him to bed with us and about every hour he would whine and nurse again. Yuck. We are both so tired! (DH & I) and Jarin was a big whiney butt most of the day. He's finally doing better this evening. Jaime has a friend over and Jarin LOVES her. He was giving her kisses and pushed Jaime and me away. LOL. His bottom is better today, so I am very glad for that - and I'm sure Jarin is too! **Christi: Thanks for the info on the Chicago trip. I hope they don't plan it the same time as we will be in London! I will be SO disappointed if that happens. We're leaving for that trip on July 13th. and will be gone until August. LOL at the box of chocolate disaster. I would've still eaten them too. =) **Kelly: Welcome to you, Tara, and Andy. I have a 16 year old, 8 year old, and 17 1/2 month old, so I know all about wide spacing. **Tracey: Hope you post again soon. What's wrong??? **LisaB: A 3 hour meeting on a Monday morning? YUCK, YUCK, YUCK!!! **Lynda: Alright, girl, don't you feed that baby of yours? She has to survive on stale bread that you feed to the ducks??? LOL. (You know I'm just kidding, right?) **Well, monster boy has just found me, so I suppose that ends my windy post for tonight. Love ya all.
