Can a sippy cup cause a lisp?

Answer:

There have been recent reports suggesting that sippy cups cause speech delays. I have not seen any specific research about the use of sippy cups and lateral lips. In my experience, I have not observed any connection between using sippy cups and delayed speech production. I used sippy cups with my own twins and have not seen a problem. These news reports are causing parents to panic for no reason. There are many factors that can cause a speech delay, such as continuous use of pacifiers or thumb sucking.
