Expert Q&A

By Mindy Hudon
Speech and Language Pathologist

My almost 2-year-old only says a few words, but understands everything we tell her in Hindi or English. Her pediatrician says it's a speech delay. What should I do?

If your pediatrician has already identified that your daughter has a speech delay, then I would suggest that you contact a speech-language pathologist to have her evaluated. The speech pathologist will be able to determine if a speech delay exists and how to assist your daughter with her speech development. Also, for more information about your concerns visit the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association visit www.asha.org.
