Expert Q&A

My 18-month-old daughter had a fall last week and knocked the back of her head on the floor. Should I be cautious about this? What are the signs to look for as a result of the fall?
After one week, the likelihood of continued problems from a head injury are very low. One should watch for a declining level of consciousness, constant or worsening headache (which is difficult to assess in an 18-month-old), inability to stand or walk, or evidence of vision problems. If she has manifested none of these, I wouldn't worry."
