Expert Q&A

Should my toddler be exercising? When do kids need regular (daily) exercise?

Most children get all the exercise they need during their daily activities(just think about how tired you are after chasing them around all day)! Theonly time a child's exercise level should be of concern is if the child isdeveloping an obesity problem. For most overweight children the issue istwo-fold, and diet and activity levels need to be assessed. Creatingstructured exercise for young children can create negative feelings towardfitness. The best objective is to encourage free play for your child andlimit time spent in front of the television or computer. Your example ofkeeping exercise fun and not overly structured will help build a positiveexample for your child.
