My husband and I are going through a divorce. I was in the middle of trying to potty train my 3-year-old son. Should I wait until things settle down or continue?
Despite the fact that you may feel as though everything in your world is turned upside down, it is important to try and keep in place the regular routines that your son has come to expect. Although it may be tempting to become lax about limit setting, young children derive great comfort from predictable behavior – even if it is the predictability that you will say "No!"
If your feeling is that your son is ready, I would not recommend delaying toilet training just because you are going through a divorce. However, if the toilet training meets with resistance and/or temper tantrums or tears, backing off on your immediate goals and restarting in a couple of weeks might be wise."
