Marcie's Diary Entries

Hi everyone!

Wow. I just got back from Justin's first speech therapy session! I love his therapist; her name is Cathy and she is the person who evaluated him to begin with, so I feel comfortable with her. I think she was just trying to get a very good feel for where Justin is right now, because today they just played and played for the whole half an hour that he was there. I tried my hardest to just sit back and be quiet, but sometimes I piped up and told him "Good job!" or "Wow, I can't believe you just did that!" Cathy has a white dry-erase board that he just LOVED. I have never seen him color for any length of time--but on the board he was drawing circles and trying to color the whole thing! It was amazing.

Cathy also used a lot of signs (sign language) with Justin, and I think he really paid attention to them. You could tell he was over-stimulated by the time our appointment was over, but I think he enjoyed himself. Now we will go every Monday until August 30th (his last appointment). After that, he starts with the school district and they have their own speech therapist who will work with him 2-3 times a week for an hour. I hope he can handle that!

My husband and I decided that we are going to buy him some more "learning" toys and keep them in a special box. When it is time for our home learning sessions, we will use the items in the box, but they will be put away for the rest of the day. I think this will keep them newer and also keep Justin interested in them. And it may even get us more excited about homeschooling (we think we might do that next year with our older son).

Justin's birthday is coming up next week, and it feels kind of weird to me. He is turning 3, but it just feels like he is turning 2. I know he will catch up, and I already see so many signs that he is rapidly improving, but I feel like this last year was just sort of drawn out. It's almost like we are starting it over again. And I always complain about how fast they grow--maybe it is a blessing that Justin doesn't "act his age." ;-) Until next week!

Marcie
