I am so glad today is almost over. We have lay-offs at work today. I am feeling very fortunate that neither myself or Karl lost our job today (we work at the same company). Although I was hoping to be laid off since then I could stay home with Virginia and still be paid. (since I plan on quitting around the end of the year).
But even if I wasn't worried for myself, it is hard to watch other's lose their jobs and know that their family is going to suffer.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out mommy!
I was so sad last night....I thought for sure that Virginia had stopped loving me. I was leaving to go to dance class and asked Virginia for a good night kiss since I wouldn't see her until morning. She reluctantly gave me a half hearted kiss and hug. I asked for a REAL kiss and she said "No more! Go, Mommy, Go!" As she pointed at the door and them pushed me in the direction to leave! ouch! That hurt my heart. But this morning she snuggled with me and caressed my face and gave me kisses without prompting. yahoo! That healed my heart!
Her daycare (preschool) seems to be going well. We are losing the current director, that I absolutely adore. I don't know much about the replacement, so I'm hoping he will be half as good!
For a long time, I thought Virginia was going to be delayed in her speech forever. Now she talks non-stop and mostly in 3 to 6 word sentences. When did she learn so much? She also wants to constantly help in the kitchen. Which I love, but also makes dinner preparation take a little longer. I know now to start earlier. She does follow my directions though, and doesn't touch the knives and dumps in the appropriate ingredients when asked. She is also very proud of herself when Karl she what a big girl she is for helping with dinner.
So I had a Birthday this past Sunday. The big 29. I know that isn't old, but I just don't feel like I'm about to be thirty. On top of that, there is a red lobster commercial about the 30 shrimp for $9.99 and the guy says here's 30 shrimp for your 30th birthday and she says, I'm only 29. Well, to me she looks much older than 29. I can't possibly look as old as that woman. Karl thinks I'm insane. Maybe so, but I don't want someone to look at me and say she's 30!
So, Karl actually remembered my birthday this year. yahoo. Usually he buys the card on the way home from work, etc... But my present came early....a SCANNER! Yahoo. Now I don't have to wait to go to work to scan in Virginia's professional pics. I also received a spa gift certicate from a friend. And another friend gave me a pair of snowmen earrings (I decorate in snowmen for christmas) and a grape switch plate for where our small wine cellar refrigerator is. My mom sent me a sweater and a pair of cute cat socks. So I had a great birthday...way more presents than I expected. ;-)
Virginia is going to be Elmo for Halloween...I bought the costume on ebay. And it is so cute. It even has a belt that has elmo's laugh. I had her try it on and she was amazed that she was looking at elmo in the mirror....not sure she quite understood that it was herself. Should be fun trick-or-treating this year.
Not much else to report....
Love,
Katrina and Virginia
