3 years and 2 months old
Virginia started daycare last week. Karl insisted that she attend daycare so that I could actually rest. I fought him tooth and nail about this. That I didn’t want to lose any time with Virginia. That I have only a few weeks left before Virginia would no longer be an only child. But Karl won, and I knew he was right. So we compromised and she is attending daycare for 3 days per week. Virginia seems to like attending “school” and having other kids to play with. She will attend this week and next week and that’s it. At that point I will be off of bed rest. So 3 weeks total isn’t so bad (at least that is what I’m telling myself).
Last Friday I noticed she was a little grumpy, but thought it may just be a side effect of school. But then on Saturday and Sunday she got progressively grumpier and by Monday morning she looked like she had been run over. Her eyes were puffy, she had dark circles under her eyes and she was congested. So I made an appointment for her to see the Doctor. Karl was unable to take her, so I braved the outing. Turns out she just has a bad cold or a virus. Tuesday morning, Karl got her up to go to school and she had a melt down. So I kept her home and she was pretty sluggish until after naptime. Then she got her groove back! Virginia was definitely feeling better and was happy to go to school this morning.
Turns out that it is for the better that she didn’t attend school yesterday, because the remodel project is about to start at our house. They are tearing out our master bathroom on Thursday and Friday and the contractors told me it would be very loud. So Virginia will attend school on Friday as well, otherwise she won’t get her daily nap in. I’m wondering what she will think about taking her bath in the guest bathtub? It’s enclosed by glass doors, and not as big as the master bathtub. I’m sure she’ll be fine. She is a fairly easygoing child. We are not at all excited about losing our bathroom for 6 weeks, but I know the end results will be worth it. We are sending the dogs to my in-laws for Thursday and Friday so I won’t be plagued with jack hammering and constant barking. One of our cats (Isabel) is going to be boarded at our vet for those 2 days. The other cat (Mikayla) will stay here with me. Isabel is extremely sensitive and I know will freak out with the strangers and noise. Mikayla won’t be happy but she adapts to change fairly easily.
I’m a Princess!
Virginia has taken to wearing a blanket around her shoulders and proclaiming that she is a princess. At night when she goes to bed she comes to give me a kiss (Karl usually tucks her in). She first tells me that she is a princess, then she closes her eyes and cocks her head to the side to give me a “kiss”. She is mimicking the kisses she sees at the end of the Disney movies. There are no open mouths involved, and she only does this to me not to Karl. I’ve tried to explain to her that only princes and princess kiss like that. It’s purely harmless on her part, she is just acting. I just try to laugh with her when she does it, as I don’t want to make a huge deal out of it. She also loves to sing the various songs from the Disney movies, so I’m trying to learn most of the words. But she doesn’t really mind when we just make the words up. Speaking of Princesses, Virginia noticed one of our wedding pictures and declared that Mommy was a princess! That made me feel like a million bucks!
Potty training is still going well. She now often wakes up in the morning or from her naptime dry! We still put a pull-up on her when she sleeps, but this seems to be good progress to me! She has yet to have another bm in the potty, but that’s okay. And now she often tells us she has to go and does the whole potty thing by herself. Of course there are days when she demands that she needs help. And other days when she wants to use the little potty instead of the regular toilet. We have tried to discourage that, purely for selfish reasons. But we also feel that if she isn’t going in her diaper, any potty will do!
In less than one month Virginia will start pre-school. It’s only 2 days per week, and 3 hours per day. I’m going to have Karl take her shopping for a backpack and for a lunch box (for snack time). I want them to spend a little more time together because it seems Virginia has really been clinging to me lately. I’m not sure is she realizes that a new baby is coming and I won’t have as much time with her, or if it is the bed rest? I know it isn’t school because this started weeks ago. But she doesn’t want hugs from Karl when he gets home from work and will tell him that he doesn’t love her. If she wakes up in the middle of the night she always asks for me, even if Karl tells her I’m sleeping. If she needs help in the potty, it’s me she wants. I could go on and on.
Hugs,
Katrina and Virginia
