15 days until Virginia turns 3! My best friend just called and wondered if I was having a party. Guess the date is coming quickly. So the date is set, now I just need to call our family and friends to let them know. I haven’t decided what kind of party yet. I think I’ll ask Virginia what she wants. I’ll probably take her over to party city and let her choose a theme. I’m thinking about having the party from 3 to 5 or 4 to 6 and having substantial appetizers instead of a full-blown meal. I guess I will decide that based on how many people will be coming. Anyone have ideas for a simple party game for 2 to 3 year olds??? I would love any ideas!!!

Vacation
So we arrived back from Vacation last night. We are all happy to be back home and sleeping in our own beds! The first two days we were there we couldn’t get Virginia away from the beach. She loved the gigantic “sand box”. She wouldn’t go near the ocean though. On the third day we progressed to the pool and then we couldn’t get her out of the pool. We tried to go play in the sand on our 6th and 7th day but she decided it was too messy and didn’t want to be messy. I did capture quite a few cute pics so I will upload them to our babies online site today. Virginia loved the resort food, I think because there was so much to choose from. She ate pancakes or eggs every morning. I was afraid that she would demand pancakes again this morning but she was more than happy with Cheerios. Lunchtime wasn’t a struggle either….so far it looks like the transition from vacation eating to routine eating is going smoothly. So about sleeping. They had a twin bed for Virginia to sleep in. She was ecstatic to sleep in a big girl bed, however I stayed up most of the first night keeping an eye on her so she wouldn’t roll off onto the marble floor. So about ¾ of the way through the night I moved her to our king bed. We have a queen bed at home, so it didn’t feel cramped. The rest of our vacation she slept between us and that worked out well, although I was concerned she would want it to continue when we arrived home. Luckily she was looking forward to being in her own room! Virginia did reasonably well during both flights. We had a minor urine leaking accident on the way back, but luckily she is young enough that she can walk around with just a pull up on and no shorts. Virginia did well using the potty on vacation also. She would let us know when she had to go (even when in the pool). Sometimes she just used the potty excuse as a reason to cool off in the room. Except for one minor sunburn, we managed to keep her fair skin protected. I felt awful about her initial sunburn, but luckily vinegar takes away the pain and it didn’t ruin our vacation. It’s apparent that Virginia has her Dad’s skin as she actually has a tan now (I don’t). Virginia had a few playmates while we were at the resort and it appeared that she really enjoyed playing with the other girls (no little boys her age). Most of the time she was willing to share her toys, although sometimes it was a struggle (as it is with most 3 year olds!) While we were happy to get away and relax, it is always nice to come back home!

Name calling
Virginia has discovered that my name is not Mommy and that Karl’s name is not Daddy. She has started to call us Karl or Katrina to get our attention. I was actually trying to teach her our names, but I never thought she would call us our given names. She mostly says mommy or daddy, so we aren’t worried and we tell her that she is supposed to call us mommy or daddy. Now if we can just get her to call herself Virginia instead of Pumpkin!

I am exhausted and so my mind is blank with anything else to write about Virginia.
Toddler hugs,
Katrina and Virginia
