This last Sunday Karl was making homemade waffles. He asked Virginia if he should add apple to the batter (as he always does) and she replied “No, Daddy. That’s not a good idea”. Karl and I looked at each other and neither of us knew where she picked that up. We must say that phrase and not realize it. Another thing Virginia has been saying lately is the word Hate. As in, “I hate my medicine”. I know for sure we don’t say hate, so I have yet to figure out where she picked that up. I told her this morning that we don’t say that word, as it isn’t nice.
Virginia is finally in her big girl room! Yahoo. This last weekend I convinced Karl to move her furniture and hang up decorations and shelves. While her room is still a work in progress, it is really cute and Virginia absolutely adores it. It took her a few days to realize that she had a new room, but just yesterday she walked into the nursery and told me that this was the baby’s room. We realize now that we will have to change the blinds in her room though. She has one window in her new room and it has 2-inch blinds on it. They block the light out, but not like the plantation shutter in the nursery. So that is on our list of things to do: order a plantation shutter. Her closet isn’t organized yet, but that will occur over time. Not a big deal. Every time someone new comes to visit, Virginia loves to show off her new room. She is so proud to be in a big girl room. I’m just so happy the transition has been very smooth!
Virginia finally had her first BM on the potty! This happened over the 4rh of July weekend. All day long on Saturday we could tell she had to go. At dinnertime, it was evident that it was time. So Karl took her into the bathroom and sat her on the potty. She finally pushed and out it came. And right afterwards she said “that didn’t hurt!” We were so happy to hear that since that means she won’t associate a painful bm with the potty. She is being more consistent about making the choice on her own to go potty. This is a huge step. So now I don’t have to ask her all the time if she has to go. Although she must be part camel because she only has to go when she wakes up, before naptime, around dinnertime, and then before she goes to bed. Maybe I have a warped perception with being pregnant, but it seems she can hold it for a long time.
This week my niece is here to help with Virginia. Originally we set this up thinking that Karl was going to be in Japan. He ended up not going (yea), but we decided to still have Nicolle come over. Nicolle, who is 12, really wanted to come and play with Virginia so it seemed to be a win-win situation. Having her here really has been great and Virginia loves it. Virginia still wants me to read her stories, but she wants to play with Nicolle. After her first day here Nicolle told us how tired she was. That she didn’t realize how much work it was to play with a 3 year old all day. We told her that she doesn’t have to be at Virginia’s beck-and-call and she should take breaks. Virginia calls her Cole and is always saying “Come on and play with me Cole”, “Cole, you wanna play with me?”, “Paint with me Cole”, “Swing me like an Airplane, Cole”, “Let’s go outside and blow bubbles Cole”. And if Nicolle doesn’t answer right away she will repeat herself until Nicolle does as she wishes. Virginia isn’t as demanding with me, so I wonder why she does this with Nicolle. Yesterday Nicolle made the comment that it was a good thing that Virginia is so cute, or this wouldn’t be as fun. Nicolle really does adore Virginia. During Virginia’s naps Nicolle peaks in on her every 10 minutes and tells me how cute she is.
Meal times are going smoother since my last entry. I think Virginia has realized that she gets what we are eating or nothing. So now she will still complain, but I think it is mostly for show. We hope not to see that side of her again for a long time.
Yesterday we made cut out sugar cookies. For about 10 minutes Virginia loved cutting out the different shapes. Then she discovered the bowl of flour and decided to play in that instead. She was covered with flour, so was the table, chair, and floor! Then she ended up poking her fingers on the cookie cutouts on the cookie sheet that weren’t baked yet. They aren’t the prettiest cookies, but we all had a blast making them. Although I think we all enjoy eating them even more! I plan to dye some pasta tonight so we can glue it to paper tomorrow for an art project. I’ll let you know how that goes.
Hugs,
Katrina and Virginia
