Kimberly's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

August 16, 2000

It's amazing to me how Sam bonds with his grandparents when he sees them. He doesn't see either set very often, as they live so far away, but when he does see them he gets attached to them very quickly.

This past weekend, Mike's parents (aka Nana and Poppa) stopped by on their way south. We did prepare Sam by showing him pictures of them beforehand and he recognized them right away. He had a hard time saying "Nana"; he kept confusing it with "banana" and called her by his word for "banana" which sounds something like "mla" with his tongue sticking out. He didn't want to take a nap or go to bed because he was so excited to see them. In fact, two days after they left he was still asking where they were ("Poppa?" "Mla?").

Right now Sam is teething again--his first molar. So far it's been pretty miserable. Even though I give him acetaminophen before bedtime he still wakes up after only a short time.

Sam is also getting particular about what songs I sing to him to soothe him at night. If it isn't one he wants to hear he shakes his head and cried "no, no, no". Sometimes he tells me what he wants to hear. He might say "eat, eat, eat" and that means he wants to hear "Apples and Bananas". "Max" means either "the Owl and the Pussycat" or "What's new, Pussycat" and clapping and panting mean "BINGO".

Until next week,

Kimberly
