Kimberly's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

July 18, 2000

The theme for this week seems to be teeth. Sam is still teething and still eating poorly. He'll eat soft foods like yogurt, muffins, and applesauce but doesn't have an appetite for anything else. Although . . . tonight he ate a bunch of french fries. I found some organic frozen ones that are not fried. They mix the fries with apple juice which makes them get crisp in the oven. But I digress . . .

In recent weeks it has become more and more difficult to brush Sam's teeth. I'd end up having to hold him down while I forcibly brushed his teeth while he protested. Armed with a few ideas from some parenting books, I decided to try to bring peace and end the tooth brush wars. I bought a really cool toothbrush for Sam (so now he has three!) and let him choose which one he wants to use, then I pick one of his other ones. I put him in a toddler sized chair, let him look in a mirror and let him brush his teeth. I try to squeeze in a few brushes here and there with my brush. After Sam has had a chance to brush his own teeth, I sit on the floor behind him and brush his teeth the best I can. He does squirm, but he doesn't end up in tears anymore. Then I show him how to rinse and spit into the bathtub, which he finds hilarious. I'm thinking about buying some tooth-themed books to help with my tooth brushing campaign.

Until next time, Kimberly
