Sam is starting to figure out his place in the world. He is very cautious sometimes and needs a little reassurance from me or Mike that he can do things himself. He's slowly gaining more confidence to try climbing on the climbing structure at the playground. I think because he's small it isn't as easy for him to climb as it is for larger toddlers, but as he grows taller he is also trying to climb more.

Sam's fascination with the vacuum continues. Now he gets upset when I put the vacuum back in the closet. Luckily for Sam, our dog is shedding tremendous amounts of fur so we vacuum nearly every day.

Today we took Sam downtown for a parade, picnic, concert and fireworks. He loved the fire trucks in the parade. He did not like the noise of the fireworks. He called them stars and at first held me so tightly and buried his head when the fireworks went off. Gradually he started peeking at them. I would warn him when one was about to go off by saying "here it comes ... look!" and he started to get more brave and look at them. After a while he relaxed and clapped and said "yay" with the crowd. He fell asleep in the stroller on the way home.
