June 20, 2000
June 20, 2000Summer is officially here and it's hot. I've been trying to take Sam to the playground in the morning before it gets too hot. His favorite thing to do at the playground is to pick up sticks and carry them around. He doesn't climb yet, so the playground equipment doesn't interest him much, except for the swing and slide. If we have time I let him walk home part way, alongside the stroller. Today when we passed one yard, Sam remembered that once we'd seen a rabbit in the yard and he said, "hop, hop, hop" (Samtalk for "bunny rabbit"). He filled the stroller basket with magnolia leaves, petals and flowers.
Lately Sam has been interested in "writing" with pens and scribbling with markers and crayons. He attempts to hold the pens and crayons correctly so he actually does better with the thinner crayons than with the fat ones that are made for toddlers. It may be too soon to tell, but he appears to be left-handed. Mike and I are both right-handed, but my dad is a lefty.
Finally Sam is tasting (and liking) new foods. He still won't try plain fruit and veggies, but he now eats spinach lasagna, cheeseburgers, and chicken. Pasta, rice and legumes are still his favorites. Actually, he likes almost anything with onions and garlic (as you can tell by his breath).
Until next time, Kimberly
