Hi Readers!
Sorry I forgot to write last week. Now that I'm keeping a diary for my pregnancy on PT, I'm finding that I don't always have time to write two entries each week.
In any case, Max is doing really well. Last weekend we took him to the county fair so he could see all the tractors and animals. My other mission was to overindulge in fair food (mission accomplished)! When we got there we all got corn dogs and lemonade and then headed to the animal barns.
Although I did not grow up in a big city, I have never been on a farm either. When we walked into the cow barn, I couldn't believe the size of these animals! Cows are enormous creatures! In fact, all farm animals are enormous. Max was having a great time mimicking the animal noises and stepping in "poo", but I was a nervous wreck. First of all I had open-toed sandals on so the last thing I wanted was to get sheep poo on my toes. Second, I was afraid that the animals might kick me or shoot poo at me or freak out for some reason and charge me. I know that's not rational thinking, but I was truly shocked at how flipp'n big those things are!!
The last barn we went into was the horse barn. There was a Clydesdale in a pen just inside the barn who had his head sticking out so people could pet him. Ross, Max and I walked over to him and again, I'm freaking out at his size. Ross is petting him and Max is standing in front of me. All of the sudden the horse swings his head my direction and whinnies loudly at me. I was so startled and scared that I went running out of the barn yelling "get out of my way!" and pushing people aside. I even pushed Max down in my hasty exit!
People were laughing at me and when Ross and Max came out of the barn, Max was crying because I had pushed him. I felt like George Castanza on Seinfeld when he pushed old women down in a rush to get out of a fire. I still feel like a dink for pushing my son down and making such a fool of myself, but I was scared (and I'm hormonal so maybe that had something to do with it).
After the animal barn nightmare we headed to the tractor displays. Max sat on every tractor, beaming the whole time. I'm glad that days like that make him so happy, since it's so easy to indulge his love of the tractor.
We did a few other things over the Labor Day weekend, but that was the highlight. The weather is starting to cool down, which I love, and I can hardly believe that soon I'll be sledding down hills with Max.
Until next time ...
Kim
