Kim's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

February 2, 2000

This may be a short entry since there isn't much going on right now. We are still looking for a new job for Ross and until he is on first shift, we've postponed any plans for a second child. I just couldn't handle pregnancy and taking care of Max without him there to help.

In fact, I think not seeing Ross very much is starting to affect Max. Now every time Ross puts his shoes on or heads towards the door, Max freaks out and runs after him. We try not to make a big production out of Ross' leaving and always say, "He'll be right back," but Max still cries and yells out for daddy and carries on for quite sometime. On Sundays when Ross is home all day with us, if he even goes into a different room, Max will chase after Ross yelling for him. It's breaking my heart to have Max so sad. As you can imagine, getting Ross on a five-day work-week on first shift is our main priority right now.

I've been forgetting to mention this (get ready for some gloating here), but Max is learning to use sign language. I found a great web site that shows little videos of the signs for almost any word you can think of. I went home and started trying to teach him "eat" and "bath". After about a week he was finally signing on his own. Then I did "more" and "please" and he picked up on those within 20 minutes. Now he signs those words all the time. I'll start doing "thank you" and "Mommy" now. I'm amazed at how quickly he's getting it and how he knows when to use those signs. Ross was shocked when I had Max show him all his signs...he hadn't known that I was teaching him to sign. Now, the whole family signs those few words.

My mom went through another round of Chemo last week and appears to be handling it pretty well. She is losing all of her hair. My sister and I agreed to shave our heads if she goes bald as a symbol of unity and strength for her, so we may be a couple of bald ladies for awhile. I'll be sure to send in a picture of that!

That's about it for now..."see" you all next week!

Kim
