Hectic Halloween Fun
We had two Halloween parties already. One for my twins’ playgroup (12 toddlers. Double-the-Whew!) and another for Max and the older kids (12 bouncing-off-the-walls big boys). We made boo-nanna splits and spiders (spray-paint Styrofoam balls, add pipe cleaner legs and googly eyes). All of the kids loved making the spiders and it was an easy craft. But I was feeling quite kidded-out (and ready for collapse) at the end of the day. The twinners fell asleep in their dinner, which made for some great pics that they’re going to want to burn later. I’ll have a great time showing the pics to their prom dates.
The twinners are going to wear their Thomas costumes again for Halloween. Max wanted to be a vampire but I didn’t think that was the best idea for a 5-year-old (high scary dream probability) so after much deliberation he decided on a shaggy dog costume.
My little big guys are growing up—they’re starting to use the potty and while I’m thrilled at the idea of no more double diapers, it’s making me hug them extra tight. Why does time move so fast and so slow?
School is going great for Max but I’m meeting with his teacher today to have him accelerated in math. His homework is supposed to take 20 minutes a day and it takes
him maybe 2. On a bad day. ;) That’s what I love about having him in private school—even though we have to eat Mac & Cheese to afford it—the school is willing to fit individual needs.
I went on assignment for a magazine to Chicago with my friend CJ and we had the best time! We were gone from 8:30 am to 2:00 am every day (night?). I was so tired at the end of the trip I fell asleep in the taxi on the way to the airport. Luckily I’m not dumped in a forest somewhere after being run through a wood-chipper. Not the ideal place for a nap.
The guys were really glad to see me. Tommy was glue-child (stuck to me) but that was okay cause I really missed the guys. The older they grow the more they can do fun things and when I’m away I think of how much fun they would have if they were there. I HAVE to bring them to Chicago—to my surprise it was the most kid-friendly city I’ve ever visited.
So, I bet you’re wondering about the usual chaos. Not unexpectedly, entropy rules—the guys spilled juice causing me fraternity house flashbacks of my shoes sticking to floors, my to-do pile is towering, and my laundry has it’s usual teeth. But I think I’ll go build a long, long train track with the twinners while I have the chance. Someday the last thing they’ll want to do is play trains with mom—and while it’s number one on their fun list I think we’ll all go enjoy it!
