MEXICAN RIVERIA PARADISE/SPECTACULAR 6-KID SLEEPOVER
Hola! Lars and I just returned tan and relaxed from celebrating our 10-year anniversary in Mexico. We stayed at the all-inclusive five star resort The Moon Palace, located just out of Cancun. It was a true slice of paradise—deck chairs under palms facing a pristine white beach with hotel staff delivering unlimited frosty beverages upon request. Ah...it was hard to move from those deck chairs. Besides basking in the sun, our favorite highlight was Xcaret (Myan-themed ecological park) where we floated down a river into volcanic caves and through the tropical jungle. Watch for a detailed article on the trip in an upcoming issue of Baby Years magazine.
We loved our alone time for about the first day but then we missed the kiddos. We kept thinking “Max would love this cave!” or “Jake and Tommy would have a blast playing in these waves!” We wished we’d brought the boys with a nanny. That way Lars and I could get a shot of marriage-enhancing couples time and play with the boys too. So that’s our future plan.
I was so excited to see the guys when I got home! Max gave me a big hug and Tommy woke up from his nap and ran to me but Jake was still asleep. I was unloading the dishwasher when I heard Jake’s voice in the playroom. He said, “Tommy, see! Mommy here!” It was so cute—he wanted Tommy to know I was home even before he checked in with me. I ran in and gave him a bear-hug.
Kristin and her boyfriend baby-sat the guys while we were gone, which was really brave. They went from “single and lovin’ it” to a rough-and-tumble family of five. A very big thanks to them!!! They did great but they did have a “whew!” look when Lars and I got home.
BIG SURPRISES
Oh, I forgot to mention my 10-year anniversary present—Lars bought me a gorgeous tennis bracelet with a rainbow of vivid gemstones. He originally told me he didn’t get me anything so I bounced from annoyed to elated in about thirty seconds. Anyway, thanks Lars, I love it!
The boys have turned into chatter-boxes. After dinner last night I was clearing the table and Jake said, “Hey, Mommy. Turn around! Come right back here!” I stared at him in shock and the twinners have been astounding me ever since. They both said short sentences a week ago, but now they’re talking in sentences as a matter of course. And they constantly consult each other about everything. For example, Jake says, “Hey, Tommy see the lellow moter-ky-cle (yellow motercycle)?” Tommy replies, “Oh, yes, ver-ry fast! Jakey, see it’s an airplane in the sky?” And on it goes—it’s well, adorable, which is exactly what a proud mommy is supposed to think. It’s nice when I occasionally fit into a normal mothering role. SPECTACULAR SIX-KID SLEEPOVER
My sister, JaNae, left for a sans-kiddo trip of her own, so I had the three older cousins for a sleep-over last night. Yes, chaos reigned but we all had a blast. Lars and I took everyone swimming at our new club, Silver Mountain (the pool has a big shallow end, a slide and a lazy river—the boys adore it). After swimming the troops played, ate a lot, played more, ate a lot more and eventually settled down to sleep in a big row in the living room. I can’t say what time they went to bed because then JaNae might need to kill me.
Anyway, I’d love to sit and type all day but my ferocious laundry pile is growing it’s usual teeth, and my to-do mail tray is hostile too, so I have to go fix things or suffer dire consequences. Then, the boys and I off for some swimming fun in the sun at Silver Mountain. Happy summer everyone!
