"OF SLEEP AND BIRTHDAYS"
Mabuhay. *
As I sit and type this journal, I feel so frustrated because it seems that it's taking Orion forever to go to sleep nowadays. We have already established a routine but these past few days, his sleep is a bit slow to come by. Even if he had a full afternoon, a good dinner, a shower and "quiet time" by reading books, when I give his final bottle at night, he sucks it dry quickly and just continue to roll and fuss and babble. The lights are out and I pretend to be asleep (I normally fall asleep ahead anyway), he will just roll from end to the other. Just like tonight, I tried the "gentle, sleepy" approach as well as the "scolding" tone to no avail. I wonder what's going on in his little system these days.
For the past few days, we have also been trying to wean Orion from sleeping with me. We sleep in a queen size bed, but he is like a "clock" that spins 360 degrees in his sleep. Aaron is getting worried that Orion will just kick me in the stomach one of these days, so it is Papa who sleeps with him instead after tuck him in. He still cries out for Mama especially in the middle of the night but somehow he gets comforted by his Papa's presence already. Aaron wants to sort out a proper toddler bed for Orion and I wish we can do it soon as possible because I want Orion to be comfortable on his own.
Last weekend, March 18th, were the birthdays of Papa Aaron and Poppy Nish (my father-in-law). We called Poppy to greet him and we really wanted to Orion to say something to him over the phone. So while Aaron was on the line, I kept coaching Orion in the background and finally he spoke on the receiver, "Hap Berdey Poppy!" and kept repeating it over and over again. Well, we hope that a serious song from the youngest grandchild he hasn't met made his day. Nanny (my mom-in-law) also got her share of "Goonayt Nanny" which made her really happy. So nowadays, Orion sings "Happy Birthday" to whoever including to fish, butterfly, to chopper, to candle, to chichak (lizards) etc....
See you next week.
