Kellie's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
October 31, 2003
We as a family have been very busy this last month and this is a catch-up month for me…
Swimming Class: We enrolled Brennen in swimming class at our neighborhood recreation center (a great center which has excellent activates like swimming, dancing, pottery for kids, a nursery school etc.) Brennen is in the class with me and we do all kinds of songs, games and practice our floating. He’s really quite patient and good most of the time, but he loves to splash and jump off the side of the pool so if there is ANY jumping from the side early in the class, well that’s it for him he has zero attention span after that. He really is amazing for a two year old, he has no fear of being underwater, wants to go down the waterslide and just all in all very comfortable in the water.
Playgroup: Brennen and John have joined our local playgroup (it’s at the top of our street which is very convenient) B loves it and just enjoys spending three mornings a week there. John says he plays very well and seems much quieter and not so aggressive around the other kids (just around McKinley lol). I can’t say I’m totally pleased with the playgroup, I find the women there VERY cliquey, extremely pro-SAHM and just not all that …smart... No, I’m not a genius but this is a co-operative and as an example they had a Halloween party set for Sunday (which we as a family attended the kids loved it). I volunteered to make cupcakes… I made 24 cupcakes, I decorated them and dropped them off when we arrived…The coordinator immediately said “ oops sorry did we not tell you they were to be *undecorated*”..No you didn’t…hello people your organizing a fundraiser (organize is something these ladies struggle with). Anyway, the four of us proceeded to have B show us around, I painted faces etc. They had a buffet lunch with food donated by a local restaurant and by Subway. At the end of the party one of the women (who is a retired teacher and who can be quite irritating) wanted to auction off the uneaten tray of sandwiches… YES, auction off an uneaten (but left uncovered through out the buffet style lunch) so this lady says, there is a *lovely* tray of sandwiches to be auctioned off, you can pick the tomatoes off and freeze the sandwiches if you like (how about the mayo?) Really how can anyone in their right mind think that auctioning uneaten but *breathed on* sandwiches is appropriate.
I also *did* one of John’s duty days (as a cooperative you are supposed to execute X amount of duty days to be a member in good standing) the playgroup had a booth at the local mall where members set up a neat display etc. and we were supposed to approach young couples, or women with children saying something like *Hi, are you aware of the X play group, we are located at X address, and have a great program for children Birth to 6 years old..* seems straightforward, and since I’m quite outgoing and do think the playgroup in theory is a great idea I signed up. I arrive and there are four members there, I introduce myself and they proceed to sit at the table and point out people for me to approach ex. * Kellie, there’s someone to approach, Oh Kellie did you get that person*… I really did not take kindly to being *instructed* by these members while they sat down. I finally turned around and said to one of the ladies, while handing her a brochure, *feel fee to approach that person, she responded with “Oh I’ve been here all day”. I also asked the TIME from one of the women and her response was “oh you working moms, your so technical…don’t ask me anything technical” I’m like I asked you the TIME not how to build a nuclear reactor. Why is it that women are SO hard on other women. Sometimes I shake my head at how we treat our sisters, who if anything we should be partnering with and working together…
Halloween:
B is going to be a monkey for Halloween, he has no clue what is involved but I know as soon as my in-laws show up (My 4 sil’s and bil always come on Halloween and take the kids out with John and I). He’ll love having the whole crew over to entertain lol I love Halloween with the kids, they (especially M) gets so excited about *going out* and spending some time with the family (inlaws). I must say I have the greatest time with them and so do the kids; we are blessed to have such an involved and healthy relationship with my family and Johns. I know the kids will benefit.
Birthdays:
John and I both celebrated our Birthdays in October (6 days apart)We had a *combo* bday party (as M called it)with the family (my inlaws) we had chinese food (kids LOVE it) and a great Friday night spent amongst family and lots of HAppy Birthdays! Brennen loves to sing the song *Happy to You Mommy* and was a very enthusiastic candle blower.. John and I were so tired of cake by the time both our bdays were over (one cake for the day of our bday and then one when my inlaws came over for Chinese food).
Second Hand Shopping:
I've been getting such DEALS lately I had to share, we have some FANTASTIC second hand stores in Ottawa and I've been selling and buying my kids clothes there for awhile (stop reading if your the *I'd neve purchase second hand clothing for my kids*) I've bought a beautiful Please Mom coat for Brennen there and some great Osh Kosh overalls also. I've still been buying alot of M's clothing on EBAY my favortite brands are Chocolate Soup, Bailey Boys, Austin and Ashley and Kellys Kids for both kids, you can't find that unique, well made clothing here in Canada like you can in the states so I've been a busy getting the bargains!
B’s favorite things:
Scooby Doo (loves to watch videos and the cartoons)
Blue (still a favorite and *teve* as he calls Steve)
Dora (and boots)
Popular Mechanic for Kids (its one of M’s favorite shows that he LOVES)
Lego
Blocks
Playgroup
Drawing (he can make a face with eyes and mouth which is great for a two year old)
Running and Jumping. (he loves to Jump off anything)
Nacks (Snacks, he is a huge grazer who loves to Nack all day long)
Well I have to get moving as I’m at work but wanted to give a quick update on whats happening at our house.
Question for my TTM board: As a Working Mom or SAHM why do you think women treat the other unfairly…?
