August 3, 2004

I wanted to post a quick note, about the post on my talk to me board and on another Mom’s today board. I’d like to say that behavior of certain posters bring me back to my high school days… there is an abundance of gossip and catty behavior that I’d like to say is childish and ridiculous. Don’t bother posting to my talk to me board or other boards accusing me of anything without anything but wild and silly comments. I’d also like to state that a *style* of writing is easily imitated and I suggest something more substantial is used for accusations. That’s all I’m going to say about that!

Happy Civic Holiday to my fellow Canadians, I am at work getting caught up but am enjoying the day!!!

Preparing for PEI,

We leave for Prince Edward Island on Thursday of this week; we are taking two days to drive from Ottawa, with stops in Woodstock NB for a rest before going on to PEI. This is our second trip to PEI and its so much work to get ready… I know I should be happy that as a family we can afford a 2 week vacation and we are going with my dad and his wife which will be great. I am just feeling overwhelmed with the work to get ready, John is great, as a sahd he as things well in hand with the kids, but the sheer amount of preparation is daunting. Driving two days with two kids is a big challenge and one I think I enjoy; it’s the getting ready I dread. Last year my fantastic in-laws made back-packs for the kids to be opened at the first leg of our trip, in each back pack was a snack, drink and at LEAST 25 separate toys and activities individually wrapped, the wrapping paper they used for art work. It was great it kept the kids enthralled for the full two days. I know they are doing something similar this year, and I’ve bought some new leap pad books for both of them and colouring books etc. to keep them occupied. I think it’s the packing, booking of hotels, finding a cottage (we found a great one on Tracadie Bay) saving the $$, etc. etc. One of the added stresses, is my father who is coming with us has not been feeling well, and has been told he has several blockages or hot spots on/in his heart. He may not be a candidate for bypass due to many factors one being his condition currently. I personally think its risky going on vacation at this time but he’s adamant, and honestly I love and miss him too much to potentially miss this vacation.

For those of you who have never been to PEI, its Canada’s smallest province with about 160, 000 people on the Island. Its gorgeous, relaxing and the home of Anne of Green Gables, one of my favorite stories/movies of all times. We as a family don’t do much but visit the touristy sites, travel the Island (tip to tip it’s about 4.5 hours) and go to the gorgeous beaches which surround the Island. Our plan while the kids are young, is to *do* Canada, see the beautiful country we live in before going and doing Europe etc. I really love Canada and it’s really a gorgeous place to live.

I’m sure we’ll have a blast and a great time, I’m always stressed before vacation, I’ve also been filling in for my boss while he’s on vacation, and I haven’t been home before 8:00 pm but once. Although it’s been good for the experience, the stress has been monumental, and the time from the kids is making it tough, thank goodness its summer as we’ve been eating later and the kids (gasp) have been completely off schedule and I haven’t missed that much time with them. Thank goodness for John, again, I can’t say how much his being at home has helped this summer I am SO lucky for the kind of husband /father he is, our family and our welfare always come first for him. Sometimes I forget to thank him or appreciate the person he is and that I have to improve on.

Brennen will be starting Nursery School in October as John and I have decided its time to go back to work. McKinley will be attending the same center as B after school which is great, John will drop them both off in the am, M will get walked to the bus station by a teacher at the school, and the bus drops them off at the center after school. I’m nervous, for Brennen’s sake, he’s never been in day care or any situation like this but at 3.5 he’s ready, he needs the socialization and is missing that at home. Its expensive but worth it in our minds. John being back at work will be great as its extra money, we are going to spend a year catching up on a few bills we’ve let slide a touch since he’s been off (3 years) we want to get back to owing nothing and have obtained a bit of debt for him to stay at home, which bothers me a bit, but I know a few months and we’ll be back where we need to be.

I’ve reconnected to a pal of mine, I haven’t spent much time with her or talked to her over a silly falling out we had a few years ago, I’ve always been slightly ashamed of my getting involved in a situation like I did, and missed her friendship a lot, she and I have had a great few weeks and its like we’ve never been apart, we are a lot alike and enjoy our time together, this last part of 2004 I’d like to spend working on getting out a bit more with girlfriends and maybe go back to school. I haven’t decided on what I’d like to take, I know I should start slow, but I’ve always loved tons of things on my plate (yet I complain about stress lol) so I may go back for my MBA or something like that.

Speaking of September I’ve enrolled McKinley in piano lessons, I really think learning an instrument will help her learn to read and with math, she is going into grade one so I think it will be a great help. I enrolled Brennen in a music program for 3 year olds which I think he’ll love it’s on his own (first program he’s ever done by himself) but I know he’ll love it as he loves to sing songs for all of us. His rendition of O’Canada is hilarious!

Well, I’m at work as I said so I should get back to it, I won’t be adding any updates until after we return at the end of August. That said, I hope everyone has a great finish to the summer.

Cheers,

Kellie
