Brennen’s Blues Clues Addiction:
Brennen is SO addicted to Blues Clues, he watches the videos once a day, after break feast his first words are “Boo Boo” meaning Blue, he runs to the TV and does a Blues Clues Dance pointing at the TV yelling BOO BOO…
McKinley never was really addicted to TV shows; sure she liked Blues Clues and now loves Scooby Doo and Zaboomafoo but never to this extent. In the car on the way to work and to drop M off at school, Brennen will yell BOO BOO over and over again until we put on our only Blues Clues tape. John admitted this morning he’s found himself singing “I’ve got a silly hat” over and over to himself when he’s at home.
We had a great Easter!
The Easter bunny hid eggs filled with yummy stuff, books and bey blades in our living room, backyard and front yard. The kids loved racing around with their baskets yelling heres one heres one! It was sooo cute to watch how Brennen caught on to the search for eggs. He’d run around the backyard and find an egg and yell and scream then throw it into his basket and run around in a real tizzy. He loves to follow McKinley and Easter morning she told him “watch me Brennen I’ll show you how to hunt for eggs” he nodded gravely and watched her race around and caught on in no time. We went to 10:00 services Easter Morning and Brennen was not a happy camper at Mass. He wore his sisters Easter bonnet throughout the service and was pretty quiet until McKinley left for Children’s Liturgy, then he yelled and cried. Once she was gone he grabbed her purse, put her bonnet on and yelled, “DONE, DONE, DONE” over and over again. Meaning of course that he was done with church and was ready to go. I took my wailing screaming cross dressing son out into the front of the church where he ran around for about 15 minutes. The older kids get back from Children’s Liturgy just before Communion so we rejoined John (who had a peaceful few minutes alone lol) McKinley came back and that seemed to calm Brennen done a bit but he really had no patience for church this weekend. John and I tried all our tricks and brought toys but he was in no mind to do anything but crawl around and keeping him quiet was a real job. I know that with time, he’ll come to understand Mass, and over time he’ll mature but to see him in McKinley’s Easter bonnet was really funny!
My mom and stepfather are coming to Ottawa this coming weekend for McKinley’s family birthday, which means a busy week. McKinley is very excited for the celebration and I know Brennen will love a house full of people. This past weekend he loved hanging out with my sil’s and seemed very very friendly and not at all shy! He’s come along way from the little lad who wouldn’t let anyone hold him. The weather here in Ottawa has been pretty nice so we have done lots of walking; Ottawa has a great canal that runs through the city, which we walked around on Good Friday. McKinley had her bike and Brennen rode in our Pooh Car. He loves it and we meandered through the Glebe looking at the beautiful (and pricey) old homes, stopped at a playground where John went to Elementary School, went for lunch at a great Mexican restaurant (Feelinas in the Glebe) and really enjoyed about 3 or 4 hours of walking and chatting. Those are the days that I feel so lucky to have such a great husband and kids. The kids are great on those long walks and seem to love exploring other neighborhoods as much as John and I do.
Brennen still isn’t talking (he’ll be 2 in June) and sometimes I worry that he doesn’t say much he does point to things he wants and I say “oh, you want X or Y” he just shakes his head yes or no and we communicate that way. I wonder if boys are really later in talking than girls. McKinley was considered a “late talker” for a girl (she spoke at around 2) but I find Brennen even saying less than she did. I know that they are not the same but it’s hard not to compare when they are together, especially how really different they are. Brennen is so fiery and temperamental and McKinley is really quite laid back and very easy going. Brennen fell out of our bed on Sunday night and cut his chin and lip and I thought McKinley was going to burst, she was in tears (a lot longer than Brennen, who immediately nursed and was fine) she cried about how she loved her brother and it hurt to see him hurt and she was soooo sad that he had a boo boo.. and Brennen just nursed away, with his boo boo quickly forgotten, we ended up consoling McKinley longer than him.
Well, I’ll close off here with a kiss and hug for my two little kids; I couldn’t be luckier or blessed to have such a great family. Xoxo Mommy!
