Tinkle Tinkle Little Tar:
Brennen’s favorite song lately is Twinkle Twinkle little star, he loves to sing it everywhere and as loud as he can. He doesn’t get the words right and with his vocabulary it usually comes out as Tinkle Tinkle, little tar, what you ARRRREE.
So Cute!!
He also loves Jingle Bells, which he usually sings during Mass when he hears the Communion bell; he perks right up and starts in with Jingle Bells. Most people sitting in the pews around us work hard not to laugh at his antics in Mass. We take the kids to the 10:30 *Children’s Mass* which offers a Sunday School during which the kids leave and go into the Church hall to study the Gospel, make crafts etc. Brennen is still too young at 2.5 and he stays with us which means he spends the hour drawing, singing, playing with toys he brought and of course eating snacks.
I signed the kids up for gymnastics last month and Saturday was our first class, I was a bit nervous as I didn’t know what B would think of a structured class (John, says he was terrible about circle time during his time at playgroup) he did really well warming up but LOVED the jumping, climbing, balance beams and of course the trampoline. He was very good about waiting his turn, but had no fear (of course) of any of the activities; he jumped and hopped, balanced and just loves ever aspect of the class. He climbed up two different ladders, one horizontal to the ground about 2 feet high which he mastered quickly and the other ladder he which almost went to the ceiling, which he was supposed to get off to get on a platform to jump into some foam, after much convincing on my part that he wasn’t supposed to climb to the ceiling he did great.
McKinley was in the other class which did not require parent participation but she did really well from what I saw and loved practicing her *dismounts*. Both kids were fantastic and we really enjoyed ourselves, watching them learn a new activity is so much fun. I can’t wait for soccer and baseball which start up in April and May of this year; although Brennen can’t play it will still be fun to be involved. John is the assistant coach this year for M’s team so we’ll really have a grand time.
March Break:
McKinley and Brennen had a blast for March Break, during the week while I was at work they went to two Museums here in Ottawa (Museum of Man and Science and Technology) they also had a play date with Brittney and Zachary Riley for the whole afternoon and then they Riley’s stayed for dinner it was a blast and the kids were quite tired after all that play time. John and Pete had fun relaxing while the kids played and enjoyed getting to know each other even better. On the Friday the Riley family and ours went to Montreal to visit the Bio-Dome, it’s a 2 hour drive but as always with books, games and a few snacks the kids did marvelous. (a side rant here, the Riley’s have a DVD player in the van and I must say it really takes away from the fun of long drives, we play games, chat listen to music and the kids really like to play together in the car it’s a shame that technology or the ease of TV takes that away). We arrived and saw the three environments (South American rain forest, Penguins in the North Pole and the Laurentians which we saw birds, beavers and otters and other neat flowers and plants) We then took a long hike to see the butterfly exhibit (I was disappointed as I thought they would be alive like at the bio-dome but they were all pegged for display it was kind of sad to see them all like that) We then went to the top of the stadium tower which was neat, the Olympics were held in Montreal in 1967 or 69 (I think) so we saw all of the village, the river and beautiful Montreal from our great vantage point. Brennen, through all this was fantastic he walked with the other kids, loved all there was to see and just did great. We left to go home at about 5:00 (we go there at 9:00) and drove home where both kids fell asleep in no time. We did get to drive through Montreal and it was beautiful and both John and I want to stay the night (just us) in the summer as a get away just for us (lets see if we actually do get away).
On Saturday we went to the wave pool and spent 3 hours swimming and playing in the waves, Brennen and McKinley loved the wave pool but Brennen was a bit cautious due to getting hit in the face a few times with a wave or two, he really enjoyed the baby pool and as he proved in PEI this summer, give him a bucket and some floating toys and he is more than happy. On Sunday we didn’t do anything, we stayed home in our pj’s and relaxed it was a great ending to a fantastic March Break.
Last night we sold Girl Guide cookies for M’s sparks troop; it was too funny to see Brennen with a box in each hand, at the door with M giving people a box. I think he was our secret weapon as we sold 2 cases (40 boxes) with Donna (sparks leader) and her two girls. John came with us and was in charge of the wagon and keeping an eye on Brennen while I concentrated on McKinley, I was nervous as I’m not all that keen on door to door sales, but Donna knew the neighborhood and she did a good job of being polite and is well aware of our families’ stranger rules.
We haven’t gotten anywhere with toilet training, actually we haven’t really started; Brennen isn’t interested in going at all. His latest is to hide behind our wing back chair in the living room and when I ask him what he’s doing he says “going on a treasure hunt” which correlates into going to the washroom. Its quite funny, I mean where he got “going on a treasure hunt” from I don’t know. I know we should be pushing a bit harder but I will really start working on potty training when the warmer weather starts, it’s a real pain with layers of clothing.
We have a lot planned for April, with Easter, McKinley’s birthday, and in June my baby will be 3 my goodness time has flown. We are still no nearer to a decision to have another baby but as time goes by our decision is really made with a 4 year age difference I don’t know if I want that gap, but at the same time I ask myself what’s 4 years. A house came up in our neighborhood that I’d love to buy (we currently own our home and every year get that much closer to paying off our mortgage.) its gorgeous, completely renovated, 2 storey, 3+1 bedroom, gorgeous master bedroom with a sitting room and fireplace, just the kind of house I really would buy. The owners want 440K which is a LOT of money; I knew our neighborhood has really skyrocketed in price in the last few years (central location, lots of green space, great all brick homes that are about 50 years old) but I’m shocked at the price. Funnily enough, not shocked enough not to convince John that we should look at it and consider this move, he’s not interested, loves our home and thinks we should renovate. I’d like to just move into the dream home instead of having to go through the nightmare of renovations. I guess it’s a good problem to have; having a home that’s doubled in price and considering a home that is triple that original price. I know I’ll never convince John but I just LOVE this house sigh…
Well that’s it for this week, I hope to update later this week as the weather is supposed to be beautiful and I’m sure we’ll have lots of updates.
Cheers,
Kellie and Brennen
