Sorry for not updating sooner but I find it harder and harder to find time these days for anything but the basics... (eat, sleep, parent, work and attend various school meetings)
We had a GREAT valentines day, spent with John's sister's (he has 4) McKinley and Brennen were SO excited to see the family come in, its so nice to see how their relationship with John's family (and mine) is nutured and growing.
We all ate huge amounts of chinese food (Brennen LOVES chicken balls) and had a great chocolate mousse Valentines cake afterward. Brennen showed off all of his new tricks (he now says, nanna, papa, mama, dada, stop, no..no..no(said waving/wagging his finger) yes and mine. He danced for us all and remembered to bow when he was finished and when it was McKinley's turn to entertain us in her ballet tutu he stopped playing with his blocks (his latest obsesssion) and clapped and cheered for her.
Both my children seem to be talking late, although I worried with McKinley (she is making up for lost time now lol) I don't with Brennen he knows all of his body parts, follows instructions to a "t", makes the sound of a lamb, monkey, dog, cat, horse and hops like a bunny when asked. He's only 19mths old so I'm not excessively worried about his lack of skills in talking. I've heard boys usually talk much later than girls and McKinley was a late talker as I mentioned she was near two before she really started to talk alot.
John and the kids gave me a certificate for a Pedicure at the spa for V day (which my feet desperately needed) it was a great break and I enjoyed it Tons.
Brennen has gotten into a terrible habit on the way to picking me up from work in the evening (anywhere from 4-5:00 pm) he sleeps, and sometimes for 2 hours which means he's raring to go at 9:00 at night.. Gosh its tough to try and get him back on ANY schedule. He won't sleep in the morning when McKinley is at school and forget about it when she gets home (too much stuff to do with his sister I guess) so then the only real "quiet" time he gets during the day is that short 7 minute car ride. The funny thing is he's a terrible sleeper at night easily woken up and very very noisy etc. during these catnaps this little guy is OUT like a light. An earthquake wouldn't wake him, we've grocery shopped with him SLEEPING inside of the cart (basket) he's been through the carwash and all sorts of stuff and he's slept right on through.
I am continually amazed at how B can go and go all day long its incredible when he finally sleeps during that time, as he looks so peaceful and rests so quietly I wish I could get him to nap at a more appropriate hour is all.
Brennen's also getting quite dramatic, when told no or something is taken away from him he covers his face with his hands and cries (faker jolly baker is what we call him) as he peeks to see if your watching and if you are, he goes into quite the wailing detail but if you pretend to not notice he stops and moves on to something else..lol..
I can not wait for spring as with this Canadian (specifically Ottawa) weather its been quite cold (-37 to -40c) during the day with the wind chill so the kids have been in the house more than usually and I think everyone (John especially) is getting a bit ready for the big thaw lol..
We have a big weekend as my mom and her husband are coming down to celebrate her birthday.. Around here I go BIG for all of our birthdays (John's sisters are starting to love it I think...) We always have a family dinner (usually Roast Beef) we have birthday cake, birthday hats and lots of laughter and a loud rendition of Happy Birthday and for she/he's a jolly good fellow. McKinley LOVES to sing along and Brennen la la la la's his little head and bobs up and down to the singing.
I think its so wonderful how my children are benifiting from having a great circle of family members because there are no cousins their age (John's one and only neice is 27) and my sisters little ones are 8 hours away. I am really trying very hard to make sure they have the benefit of knowing and loving their family, I really see how McKinley shines with her aunties, cousin and my parents and its a wonderful testament to the power of family.
Well, thats it for this week, wish for warmer weather here in Ottawa and that spring comes early we sure do need it.
Cheers,
