Kellie's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

February 5, 2004

Sorry I haven’t updated in a while, it seems I have no time to do anything these days! I can’t really remember anything that has happened lately so I think I’ll just start with the kind of turmoil we’ve had in the last few weeks.

Car Accident:
On Monday night on the way home from the Drs. We were waiting to turn left on a very busy section of road about 15 minutes from home. We were side swiped by a truck trying to make the light (we were stopped as the left hand turn light was red) he locked his brakes and proceeded to side swipe our car, breaking the passenger window, taking the door off, and rear-ending the folks in the two cars ahead of us. It was a bit nerve wracking as I had glass everywhere and McKinley was crying... Brennen slept through EVERYTHING, the ambulance, fireman, the police everything, he woke up once while in the ambulance and said “I don’t like Doctors” and that was it. Thank goodness my children were not hurt, the insurance is replacing our two car seats (McKinley is in a booster) I know they weren’t damaged and obviously we could have kept them as they are safe but I just felt better knowing they had new car seats and that there was no danger or no defect I couldn’t see. Since its covered by insurance I thought why not, its was the other guys fault and we pay enough in insurance that we should be able to get new car seats if I wasn’t comfortable.

Rental:
We currently drive a 2001 Dodge Caravan, I like having the van as its easy to get the kids in and out of the car, and yes they aren’t flashy or sexy but they fit our needs as a growing and busy family. The rental we have is a Honda Odyssey I LOVE the fact you can control the temperature for each person, our van I found we were either hot or cold never just right. I like the Honda as the ride is very comfortable and although I like our van I think I’d like to try an import the next car we drive. I’ve never bought anything but North American but its nice to try different vans when you the the chance.

Virus:
For the last two weeks Brennen has had a high fever and has been absolutely a mess (whiney, clingy, sleeping habits out of sort etc.) last weekend he complained about his mouth hurting (we thought he was just copying his sister who licked a metal fence post that week and had a good portion of her tongue ripped off and left on the post ). On the weekend he complained about his mouth and I check it and his gums were fire engine red and starting to overlap his teeth..I couldn’t understand it and thought he might have an abscessed tooth or something wrong with his gums. I called his dentist (pediatric specialist) who squeezed him in on Monday afternoon, he took one look at Brennen’s mouth and saw cankers, sores and his gums were so swollen he also had another fever. He diagnosed an infection elsewhere in his body (viral he thought) gave us a prescription for a antibiotic but suggested that he be seen by our doctor, of course, I was already in that mode especially if it wasn’t his teeth bothering him.
I called my dr. made an appointment for 4:00 and we did some errands while we waiting and throughout the day he was so cranky and whiney and very very upset at everything. We got to the doctor, he had a fever of 102 and she diagnosed Cox sill virus (sorry don’t know the spelling, its kind of like hand foot and mouth for kids !) She diagnosed Motrin, Tylenol for pain and fever and just keeping him well hydrated. I asked about his pain (he was up all night with the pain in his mouth and his sleeping was impacted by his condition. She said wait a few days and she’d diagnose codeine for him if he needs it. By yesterday I was just so tired with having zip sleep because he will wake up every 15 minutes crying about his teeth/mouth. Our doctor prescribed codeine for the pain which I gave him last night, it was a better night he only woke up about 3 for 4 times which compared to every 20 minutes or so is an improvement. I’m back to work today after taking two days off due to the accident and I think that Brennen is at least starting to feel a bit better but he is so whiney and contrary its very very frustrating.

Behaviour
A friend who I spent last Saturday with (John is laying pergo flooring in her family room as a favor) thinks I give in to Brennen way more than I probably should that he uses his temper etc. to get his own way, she’s right I’ve been thinking about it more and more and I do let him blackmail us in a way. He screams and throws fits and knows our buttons to push. I am so used to McKinley who is very easy going most of the time and that has made me a bit used to a just negotiating with her. Let me tell you, there is no negotiating with Brennen. I’ve started to just say “NO” more and let him have his fit and it seems to be working he gets over it faster. He is funny, during his rant he just sits on the floor or lays down and cries and cries. He is quite the drama king and really has McKinley conned into doing what he wants. If she is watching tv and he wants her to do something he’ll yell at her … and push her until she does what HE wants. She is easy going and acomodating but sometimes she won’t give in and you think his heart is broken. He wails and cries and usually comes to tattle to me that “mee mee won’t do something or other”. The next few months I’m going to work on saying no more and not let him emotionally blackmail me into getting what he wants.

New Job:
I decided to apply for a new job in a router organization withing Nortel, I’m starting in a few weeks and am quite excited. The downturn in the economy (especially high tech) really put a damper on my career, with no opportunities and very little to challenge me I found myself very bored at my present position. I love the company I work for and they used to really ensure their people were well challenged, obviously the company has been just trying to stay afloat and everyone has really kind of sat quiet and have just been glad for a job. The jobs are now being posted and people are starting to move around so I thought I’d take advantage of a great position posted. I’ve worked for this group for close to 9 years in one capacity or another so it was tough to go but I need a challenge.

Birthday:
Brennen went to McKinley’s school mates birthday party *Robin* is a girl that M goes to school with and who I really find difficult. She’s a moody and obnoxious girl who seems to love to hurt M’s feelings, her mother is as moody as the child and has these anti-social attitudes (saying hi to some moms not others..etc) anyway Robin and her behaviours aren’t the problem of Brennen (I post about Robin on M’s diary) he went to her birthday party with McKinley a few weeks back. They went to a place called Midway it’s a fun/amusement park type of place. Brennen had a blast! He played on the jungle gym with the kids (especially the boys) ran everywhere, loved the games room etc. it was so funny to watch him sitting with the big kids having lunch and nodding his head to the kids as they converses (almost like “yes, I agree, that was fun on the bumper cars”..) he was hilarious, I was nervous (of course) with him just disappearing into the tunnels and ball rooms that the place had but he was so quick and not interested in staying with mommy. I’m thinking of having McKinley’s birthday at a place similar (its cleaner though, with no bumper cards ) called Cosmic Adventures. I know he’ll love that day and will just be too excited that day.

Breastfeeding:
Brennen is STILL nursing he was starting to ramp down even at night but since his illness he’s been on the breast 24/7 wanting it on the weekends during the day and at night he’s on the breast most of the night, when I try and break the latch he usually wakes up within 15 minutes looking for the boob. Funny story, the other day while we were all laying in the bed he was goofing off with McKinley rolling around and squeeling sometimes with the breast in his mouth. I finally said “enough B, either your on the boob or your off no more games” he then covered my breasts with my shirt and I said “fine, no more booby then” he said pointing to my breast, “this booby big and old,” pointing to my other breast he said “this booby milk stinky” and rolled over like he was giving me a reason why he didn’t want to nurse I said fine. 15 minutes later he was saying “booby mommy” I said “hey I thought my booby was old and big etc” he said “no more stinky mommy” lol. Then the other day he told me my breast smelled like coffee breath..lol. he’s so funny sometimes.

Well, that it for my update, I do hope my picture gets posted soon as I forwarded it on. My feedback on iparenting is that I find they are so/so on their customer service, getting someone to contact you is almost impossible and they've really lost alot of their famiiarity amongst writers due to lack of pictures etc... I'm happy that things have changed for the better and hope they stay that way.

Soon (I hope) B's pic will be up on my diary and hopefully it helps with folks familiarizing themselves with the Coulson family.

till next time.
