Kelli's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

October 11, 1999

Hello everyone. Well, the past couple weeks have been pretty hectic for us here, but we are all doing well! Elizabeth is a growing girl! She will be 15 months on October 15th. Big news: she is just beginning to walk... Finally! She will get up by herself, take a few steps and then realize that crawling is faster. She isn't walking everywhere on her own yet, but LOVES to hold our hand and walk around the mall, store, house, etc. I was beginning to think that Elizabeth was going to be the only child in kindergarten who's not walking yet! LOL! She's proved to us that SHE will in her own time. If we try to get her to walk, she won't. But if we act like we aren't watching, she'll get up and take a few steps, then quit when we start watching her.

Last Wednesday, we went to Elizabeth's 15-month check-up. She's doing great! Elizabeth now weighs 21 pounds 7 1/4 ounces (25th percentile) and is 31 inches long (75th percentile). This is the first time she weighed about the 10th percentile! Elizabeth got an excellent bill of health! She also got three vaccinations: MMR & DTP shots and the oral polio vaccination. We elected to go ahead and get them over with now. She is done with shots until 4 or 5 years old! Yippee! Although I know that vaccinations are very important, I hate to see Elizabeth in pain! Elizabeth hasn't been her happy, smiling self since the shots, though. She's been very fussy, whiny and running a slight temp.

Temper tantrums have been pretty popular around here lately! When Elizabeth doesn't get her way or doesn't get an item that she wants, Oh MAN ... does she get mad! I've learned that if I just ignore them, they don't seem to last too long. I am also learning how to avoid some of these tantrums. For instance, if Elizabeth is trying to call China on our phone (she LOVES to get on our phones!), instead of automatically saying, "No, put that back!" I will nicely say, "Elizabeth can you put the phone back, please?" She does exactly that and goes onto something else. I have noticed that if I start off negatively, that's when she starts her tantrums. Hey, I say, whatever works!! It's so hard to see her throw a fit. I feel so guilty, like I need to go and pick her up, hold her and tell her how much I love her. Sometimes, I catch myself getting emotional right along with her. My goodness, who's the baby here? LOL!

With each day that goes by, Elizabeth amazes us with her knowledge! She knows most of the farm animal noises now, with "baa baa" being her favorite. In just the past couple days I have started to work with her on the ABCs. Right now, I am starting slow and only going over A, B, C & D. Well, tonight, I got the flash cards out and showed her the A. I asked her if she could say "A" and she did... and then she said, "B" before I could even show her the B! I showed her the B and then the C and she say's, "C"! AHHH... she makes a mother so proud!!! She's also doing really well with the shapes.

Rob and I swear that Elizabeth has a hollow leg! She can really pile in the food... yet stays so petite! Gosh, I wish I had that luck!! Her favorite foods continue to be chicken, cheese, broccoli, carrots, yogurt, bread, peaches, Cheerios, hmmm... I guess there's really nothing that she doesn't like. Of course, when mommy or daddy offers a bite or two of ice cream, she never turns it down! I'm really thankful that she's not very picky!

I hope everyone is doing great! I am sorry that I haven't been a faithful diary writer the past couple weeks. Hopefully, that will change. You all take care and God Bless.

BYE!
