Kelli's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

September 15, 1999

Well, Elizabeth does know how to throw a good fit after all! When something doesn't go her way, she will cry and shake and go empty her bookshelf by throwing everything. She even takes it out on Rob and I by pinching us. She isn't responding to me telling her, "NO!" (Of course not. you can't reason with a toddler!). If I take her away from the situation, she sometimes settles down but not always. Ahh... the joys of parenting! Okay, I started this journal entry with frustration. I really shouldn't complain. Elizabeth is really an easy child to care for most of the time. She is such a joy to be around and she lights up the room and everyone's heart with her sweet and beautiful smile. I just love her so, so much! I can't imagine my life without her. Okay, okay. I am getting too sappy. I better get on with my diary... Elizabeth still isn't walking! She knows how and she has stood alone but still not on her own. We took her scooter outside and she loves pushing that around. She walked the scooter up a hill, twice! She could have walked a lot more if we would have let her. It's just a matter of time.

Elizabeth Elizabeth is also becoming very verbal! She is really starting to talk a lot and trying to say many words. Book, read, eat, please, juice, drink, baby, ball, blocks, fish, outside are just a few words in her vocabulary. Of course, only I can understand most of them. I gave her blueberries yesterday with her cereal and I asked her if she could say "blueberries". She said, "Boobees". Close enough for me! It was too funny and cute! She also still asks me constantly what everything is: "What's that?" or "This?". She realizes that everything has a name. She also loves animals and tries to make all the animal noises. She especially likes to "baa baa" like a sheep. Whenever we sing "Old McDonald" to her we sing, "And on this farm he had an Elizabeth, EIEIO." She will then make all her mouth noises (popping her lips or clicking her tongue). She does it just at the right time. She's just too cute!

In other news: Recently, Elizabeth hates being confined to the car seat or stroller! She will fuss and fuss in the car seat until Rob and I sing to her. She loves to be sung to. Why she enjoys Rob and I singing is beyond me; neither of us can carry a tune! LOL! When we go to the mall and have her in her stroller, she will throw a fit when we first put her in there and then fuss every now and then while we are shopping. It's becoming so unpleasant that I don't even like to go shopping with her anymore. Elizabeth has been keeping Rob and I on our toes -- and she's not even walking yet! The girl can crawl and crawl at a very high rate of speed!!!! We have to sprint to catch her. She also keeps us in stitches from laughing! She is too much fun to watch. Last night, she was pushing her scooter and she passed the fireplace. She stopped, looked in the fireplace doors and saw her reflection. She just looked at herself, cocked her head and said, "Hi". She just stood there and smiled at herself for a little bit. THEN she crawled over to her reflection and gave her self a big kiss. I think she has found a buddy!

Today (Sept. 15th), Elizabeth is exactly 14 months. I can't believe it! She is growing so fast! I went fall/winter clothes shopping for her about 3 weeks ago. I bought everything in size 18 months. She has always worn the size of her age (i.e.: if she was 3 months, she wore size 3 months clothes; when she turned a year old, she wore size 12 months. and some things in 9 months). Well, I tried some of her new clothes on her and for the most part, they were a tad to big but some actually fit! I can't believe that she is wearing some size 18-month clothing! Oh my, next it will be size 2! Where does the time go?

Well, that about does it for me. I have family coming in and I have a house to clean. I know I am forgetting about some very important milestones that Elizabeth and I are going through right now, but I hope to be back and post another entry soon. Take care everyone and God Bless you all!
