Kelli's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

August 16, 1999

Elizabeth is quite the entertainment for Rob and I. She is so much fun! She loves us to watch her, too. If we are busy with something and aren't watching her, she will yell for us and come and get us and give us this look like, "Hey! I am doing something important and you need to pay attention!" Her big thing the past few days has been playing in the cabinet with the plastic bowls and containers. In just the past couple of minutes that I have been typing, she's made a disaster area of my kitchen. Rob likes to call her the "Elizabomb!" It's amazing how such an angelic little girl can make my WHOLE house look like a war-zone.

At 13 months, Elizabeth still isn't walking. She will in her own time. Actually, I really don't mind... it's hard enough to keep up with her crawling at record speeds! I'll gladly enter her in a crawling contest any day! :) She loves to walk around the house with me holding her hands, but just hasn't braved it alone yet.

While I am sitting here typing this entry, I am listening to Rob read to our daughter. It's the sweetest thing in the world to watch and hear! Elizabeth's favorite activity is reading. She has loved her books for months now. It's so cute to sit and watch her "read" (jabber) to herself. I hope this love of books continues throughout her life!

Well, another issue for me right now is leaving Elizabeth. In Elizabeth's 13 months and 1 day of life, I have left her a total of 4 hours. I just have the hardest time leaving her with anyone. I know no one can provide her with the love, care and attention that comes from her mother and father. But, I need "Kelli" time and Elizabeth needs to be away from me as well. This is all so much easier said than done. One day...

I think one of the most amazing things about being a parent is watching how your child grows in such a short period of time. Each day, I hold Elizabeth (with her being a toddler and resisting, of course) a little tighter and love on her as much as I can. A year ago, I held a helpless little baby in my arms and today I try to hold a very busy and independent toddler. I know when I have our next child that I will cherish EVERYTHING (OK, maybe not the dirty diapers). Before I had Elizabeth, everyone told me how fast she would grow and how time would fly. Then, I just shook it off and really didn't take it to heart. Well, experience is the best teacher and I have really learned!

Elizabeth has decided that I have had enough time on this computer for now. I hope everyone has a great week!

Take care,

Kelli
