Kathy's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

Introduction

Ok, I'll try this again... I haven't made an entry in quite a while because I have gotten very frustrated with this. The past two times I've lost EVERYTHING I typed in when I tried to submit an entry. Hopefully this time I'll remeber to save it first so I don't loose it all again! :)

Anyway, a lot has happened since my last entry. Clara turned two on October 19th (don't know why I put that her birthday was on Oct 21st in the intro??!!?!!! Duh...). Since we don't have any family in the area, her birthday party was just me, James, and Clara. A friend of ours stopped by unexpectedly for a little bit too. I had planned on a 2pm start for her party because my father and brother wanted to see Clara's party on the webcam. Clara took a nap while we got ready. We put up some decortaions (she loves the balloons!) and got out her gifts. Her dad made her chocolate cupcakes with chocolate icing just like last year. We opened up her bedroom door and asked her to come out. She was surprised! I don't think she knew what to make of it all. She opened her presents... She got My First Leap Pad from her grandfater, we got her a Hokey-Pokey Elmo, and she also got some books. She loved it all! We didn't think she was ready for the Leap Pad (said for ages 3-5), but she loves it and it didn't take her long to figure it out. We put her in the highchair for her cupcake. She tried to wait while we sang and took pictures, but kept trying to put her finger in the icing!

About a week after her birthday, she went to the doctor for a check-up. Amazingly, she did VERY well. She started to make that cry face as the nurse was drawing blook out of her finger, but that face never even turned into a cry! The nurse commented that she was better than some 10 year olds! When we were leaving, she got to pick something out of the treasure chest. Much to my surprise, she didn't pick a lollipop or even a sticker! She picked out a little plastic, purple finger puppet! I was impressed!

Shortly after that, James got hurt and had to spend 2 nights in the hospital. How do you explain that one to a two year old? I kept getting "Where's Daddy?" and I tried to explain that he was with the doctors so they could take care of him. Sometimes I got WHY? and other times that seemed like a good enough answer to her.

After that, James was home for 6 weeks so Clara was home with him. I know he liked spending time with her, but I also know that she can be a handful sometimes, and I think she missed her friends from the babysitters. James wasn't supposed to be driving, so they litteraly were stuck home.

James made his acting debut as well! He is in a musical called "The Littlest Angel" at the Community Theater. I tried to take Clara to see him, but she wasn't to thrilled with the idea of sitting still. She did get to see him one time. "DADDY!!!" It was so cute, but I also had to take her out most of the time. 2pm is usually right around nap time.

Thanksgiving was relatively uneventful! I had to work, so we just went out to eat after I got off work. And what did Clara eat???? Cranberry Sauce and Pumpkin Pie. She still isn't too fond of meat.

Everyone has been commenting how good Clara's language is. Since she's my first, I don't really have anything to compare it to. She does speak very well and is able to communicate her needs most of the time. If I'm talking to her on the phone though, it's a little hard to understand. However, when I'm there with her, I get most of her words!

The potty training has been going slow. She has pooped in the potty several times now. She does tell us when she wants to go, but I think most of the time it's just to get out of doing something else, not because she really has to go. We praise her with hugs and kisses when she goes. I think the babysitter gives her candy if she goes in the potty. I don't want to do that though.

Last weekend I went on a ski trip. Clara stayed home with her dad. It was the longest I've been away from her. I did talk to her a few times on the phone! And I was a bad Mom... someone asked about her and I didn't even have a picture of her on me!

We took her to Wal-Mart a few weeks ago to get 2 year-old pictures done. We ended up having to wait awhile and by picture time, she was a mess! We got a few, but nothing great. We also got a picture of all 3 of us to use for Christmas cards. Hopefully I'll be able to get them out on time!!!

One of Clara's favorite toys right now is her play kitchen and all the dishes, pans, and pretend food. She like to "make lunch" and feed her doll, teddy bear, Elmo, and her stuffed frog. She even gave her teddy bear a pretend bath in the sink in HER kitchen!

Overall, I think Clara is a great kid! Well, at least the terrible twos haven't hit too hard yet! We haven't had to discipline her very often. She did bite me once and I made her sit in her room for a few minutes by herself, but other than that, things have been going quite well!
