Ok, we finially hit the "why?" stage during this past week! I am trying very hard to remember that children ask "why?" at this age because they are truely wondering why and trying to learn about their world, BUT it is still very frustrating and difficult to come up with some good, logical answers. Clara is so funny with it. Sometimes after a long detailed answer that we are sure she won't understand she'll either say "oh, ok" or "oh yeah." She also asks "What happened?" or some version of "What are you doing?"
James was sitting with her last night and she said "Where's Mommy?" James told her that I was sleeping in the bedroom (don't forget... I go to bed early because I have to get up around 1:30am to leave the house by 2:15am for work!) and she said, "Oh, ok!"
It really amazes me how good her vocabulary is getting. I think she knows more words that I can count! Often when she is crying about something unknown to us, we try to encourage her to use her words to tell us what's wrong. That usually is a bit of a challenge though!
Music class was cancelled on Friday so we went down to the river and threw rocks in. She made me nervous walking on the rocks, but I kept a hold on her. She'd pick up a whole handful of wet, muddy pebbles and toss them toward the water. Some would make it, but most of them didn't! We also went to the park in town. Clara had more fun climbing up and down the steps on the gym than going down the slide. She used to like it. I don't know why, but this time she didn't seem to want to do the slide.
The last few weekends have been pretty quiet. James and I are busy around the house trying to get ready for winter. He is out cutting firewood and painting the plywood that we'll use for the horses' shed. Clara helped me measure some of the pieces so James could make the cuts. I told him we have to have the shed up before he starts hunting! We've had some beautiful fall days and I need to try to get Clara out more. It won't be long before it will be cold and hopefully we'll have some snow! I took Clara skiing with me a few times last winter, but she had only started walking in January and had a hard time just standing up on the skiis even with me helping her. A lot has changed since then so I hope it will go better this year.
