After reading some other diary entries, I thought maybe it's time to backtrack a little bit...
I got married to a wonderful guy when I was 27. After a few years, several problems came up... one of those being kids! He knew when we got married that I wanted to have kids. I understood that he wasn't ready so I didn't push the matter... that was, until age 30 was approaching! I had a self-imposed deadline that I wanted to be at least pregnant by the time I was 30. I thought we could work things out, but after he told me "I never want to have kids with you. I don't think you'd be a good mother.", I knew it was time to get out.
I moved out around Thanksgiving and went to live at a Bed & Breakfast where I worked taking care of the horses. That's where I met James. Things happened pretty quickly and I was pregnant by January! It was really funny to look back on it... that same week there were two liters of puppies born and one of our horses there had a baby (we didn't even know the horse was pregnant!) James warned all the women there not to drink the water! Oh well! :)
My pregnancy was pretty easy, I guess. I didn't gain much weight... I think it was only about 25 lbs total. Most of the time you couldn't even tell that I was pregnant. I was able to transfer to a different department in my job that was less physically demanding. AND I learned to deal with the morning sickness early on by eating crackers all the time. I remember one time I went out to eat with my mom, ordered a big plate of food and couldn't eat any of it!
I guess it was about a month before Clara was due when it was discovered that she was in the wrong position... breech. They wanted to wait a bit and thought that she still might turn around, but she didn't! I guess it was about 2 weeks before she was due, I went into the hospital so they could try and turn her around. No luck. So, I had a C-Section scheduled for the following week. It was a Friday morning, October 19, 2001. I had my appendix out when I was in high school, so I wasn't really nervous about the C-Section. Clara was born on Friday morning and we went home on Sunday afternoon.
Oh yeah... one more thing that happened over the Labor Day weekend... Saturday night, James and I had an adult only night. It was the first time ever, I think. We went out to dinner and then to see a play. Our regular babysitter's daughter came over to the house. Clara was fine with us leaving, but I was told it was a little hard getting her to go to bed, but that's normal for us too. ENERGIZER BUNNY!
Clara goes to a babysitter 4 times a week. It is a group home setting, so that means that the lady who lives there has one additional employee and can have up to 12 kids, 4 of them under 2. There are two girls younger than Clara who are there regularly, but the next oldest one to her age is at least a year older than her. The older kids went back to school this week so the babysitter will start doing pre-school stuff with the 3 and 4 year olds. She told me last spring that Clara likes to sit and do the stuff with those kids. I hope she'll get included in it again and maybe she'll even get to learn something that is appropriate for her age. She knows body parts, a few colors, and a few numbers. She really does like playing with the older kids and learns a lot from them, I think.
That's all for now!
