HOW DOES SHE DO IT?????? I think I have a little Energizer Bunny!!!
James' company picnic was on the Monday before Labor Day. Everyone was given the day off work to go down to the lake and spend the afternoon/evening at the cabin that the boss rented. Since I only work a 6 hour shift on Mondays (3am-9am) I thought I'd be able to go too. Unfortunately, it went much longer than I expected and I was very tired for work the next day.
Anyway, since James didn't work, he was home with Clara in the morning. He does a great job with her, BUT he didn't make her take a nap before we left around 2:30pm. We got a little delayed in leaving because our foal ("Baby Horse" as Clara calls her) deceided to jump the fence to see her buddy (James' gelding "Casper") and ended up with a big bloody mess on her leg. Clara doesn't like to stay in the house when we are out, but sometimes she has to for her own safety. We didn't think the foal needed stiches but we did get it cleaned up good. We stopped on the way to the picnic to get some Penecillian for the horse. Clara slept maybe about 20 minutes in the car. BUT THAT WAS IT!!! Normally when she is home with me, she sleeps at least 2 or 3 hours in the afternoon.
Everyone thought Clara was being so good, but I could see otherwise. After one unsuccessful attempt at getting her to sleep, I deceided to just let her go and see what happened. She was fine as long as she got her way. No discipling for Clara on that day! She had a great time playing with the boss's daughter (I think she is 8 years old) and his daughter's friend. Clara sure seems to like playing with the big kids!
The cabin was lakeside, but the water level was very low so there was a steep, rocky bank to get down to the water. I did manage to carry Clara down to the water one time, but it wasn't easy so we didn't go to the water again. It was hard for me to let her go and play with the girls, but there was always an adult nearby to keep an eye on her. The ladies all thought she was so cute playing PEEK-A-BOO (still one of her favorite games).
Clara filled up on Cheese, Chips, and Cherry Tomatoes. She didn't really eat much dinner. We had ribs done on the grill...YUMMMMMMM!
It was about 8pm by the time we left and Clara was finially out like a light before we even got out of the driveway!
James was also off work the next Friday for the Labor Day Weekend so we took Clara to the County Fair. We were going to go in the morning, but this time I insisted that Clara got a nap first. So, we didn't end up leaving until about 3pm. Actually, it ended up being fine because we stayed to watch the Rodeo in the evening. Clara went on all the kiddie rides. James was a little nervous about some of them, but she did fine! Of course, her favorite is still the carousel. We even went on one of those things that spin around. Kind of like a Tilt-A-Whirl, but didn't spin quite so fast and we could control how much or how little we spin. Clara loves to spin! I thought she'd be scared, but she sat there and laughed! We didn't go on the kiddie roller coaster, but I would have let Clara go on if there was a bigger kid to take her. I didn't think I'd fit in there! We did let her out of the stroller to run around some. Of course, once again, she got her way. One of us just followed her around! We took her in the petting zoo, but didn't get food for her to feed. I didn't think she'd like being attacked! We got to see all the animals too. MOOOOOOO!!!! (She liked the cows).
We finally found a place to get her a balloon. She would not let it go! Nor would she allow us to tie it to the stoller or put it around her wrist. I guess somehow she did understand us that it would go bye-bye if she let it go! Much to my surprise it did make it in the car to go home with us. Once again, Clara was out like a light as soon as we were in the car. (Clara didn't like the balloon so much the next day when it wouldn't go up in the air anymore!)
Labor Day was relatively uneventful. I had to work in the morning and then James brought Clara up to the barn to ride my horse with me. (We have 4 now at our house, Clara's Miniature Gelding "Moses" or "Mo", James's Gelding "Casper", and our Mare "Dreamer" and Foal "Baby Horse" and the one I board at a barn near by "Jamaica" - A 2 year old Quarter Horse Filly who I am training) Clara loves riding and Jamaica is quiet enough for Clara to get on (even though she's only 2 - just 6 months older than Clara!). The problem, of course, is that once Clara gets on Jamaica, she doesn't want to get off!
I'm going to try to get a picture posted of Clara keeping my seat warm on Jamaica at a horse show in the middle of August.
