Kathy's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

April 28, 2004

With a little encouragement from Clara's daycare provider, I was convinced to bite the bullet and go for potty training full force. UGH! The first week I had to do laundry every night. double UGH! but now things are seeming to get better. One mistake I had made up until now is that I ASKED Clara if she had to go potty... WRONG! Now I tell her that it's time to go. At "school" they send her to the potty about every 45 minutes so I'm trying to do that at home too. They also get her to pull up her pants herself which I still have a hard time getting her to do. She has "Clara's Potty Chart" at school and it is almost all full of stickers now! Even a few big ones... one was when she had no accidents all morning and the second one she got yesterday for no accidents all day (even at nap time). Her teacher had been putting a pull-up on her for nap time and I try to do the same thing at home too. The rest of the time she is wearing cotton training pants. She's gotten some "prizes" at home too. Especially after the first time in a long time that I got her to poop in the potty. She did great for me last Saturday. No accidnents until night just before we got her pajamas on. That was partly my fault because I wasn't feeling well and when she told me that she had to go, I thought I had better go first. Oh well... only one accident that day. I was still very proud of her. Sunday was a very different story. I think maybe it was my fault though. I was busy and couldn't get her to the potty as often. I guess potty training is some training for mom and dad too!

After more than six weeks of moving, I think the end is near. YEAH!!! It's been so hard with our busy schedules to get out of the old house. We only have a few more things to get from the outside (mostly horse stuff) and then we'll be done. It will be so nice to have some time on the weekends to do some fun things. The weather has been so beautiful here and soon we will be full swing into our summertime horse related activites. We are also looking for a new pony for Clara. The miniature gelding that she has now "Moses" had a bad winter and isn't looking so good and he is getting old. Besides, he isn't very kid safe. Clara does lead him some by herself now. I just have to keep reminding her not to let go of him if I'm not holding him also. She took him back down to the barn one afternoon and was doing very good with him until she just let go! He just kept walking by himself back down to the barn and Clara let out a big "uh-oh!" She was worried, but we knew he wouldn't really go anywhere. She has taken a liking to one of the older ranch geldings nammed "Brownie." She even led him in one time so I know she's not scared of his size. Our yearling Quarter Horse filly is very friendly and Clara likes to try to brush her, but she can only reach up to her shoulder. Clara is doing good about learning how to approach a horse quietly. If she runs up to Mo to fast, he'll get scared and walk away.

I did get some new pictures up on http://photos.yahoo.com/kinpa if anyone is interested. The album called "Life on the Ranch" has a few pictures of our new place.

Well, that's about it for now.
