Kathy's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

February 1, 2004

Let's see... where do we start? It has been awhile. I am SO happy to see that things here are getting straightened out. I haven't written here in awhile because every time I tried to post, it wouldn't connect and I'd have to re-type everything. I hope that won't happen anymore.

James has been laid off from work because there is snow on the ground and he works outside. He's been home since the middle of December. I think it's good for him and I think Clara's enjoyed staying home too. Although, I know she misses her friends from the babysitter's. James got a call from his boss last week and he goes back to work tomorrow! We haven't deceided if that's good or bad, but it's just one of those things. Clara will go back to the babysitter.

We thought Clara has been getting her last few teeth in for the past month or so, but last night I FINALLY saw some comming through. She was still missing all 4 eye-teeth and all 4 second molars. (She's now 27 months old) I see one eye-tooth and one molar on the lower left. I wouldn't say I was woried about it, but I was starting to wonder when they would come in. All her teeth came in late, and when they did, it seemed that she got a whole bunch of them at one time! This should be fun... the first week back at the babysitter's AND teeth coming in. YIPEEE!

James has come with me to the ski area a few times this winter. It's the only way we can take Clara because I work there (I teach snowboarding) and there is no daycare facility. We have little plastic skiis for her that she uses with her snow boots. I also have regular skiis and boots for her, but the boots are hard to get on and the skiis are a little to heavy for her, I think. She's worn them around the house, but not on the snow yet. We don't want to push Clara to ski, but I do want to give her every opportunity. Many times we'd get out to the mountain and I'd be to busy working or Clara just wouldn't even want to go outside. Like I said, I don't want to push her. Well, on Friay for the first time, Clara actually skiied with me a little bit! I think it helped that there were a lot of other kids around. I think it was a third grade class. She wouldn't try to do the rope tow herself (even with my help) so I had to carry her up. That wasn't easy! I need both hands to hold on to the rope. Somehow we made it though. I skiied down with her between my legs holding her up. She seemed to like it! She kept wanting to go faster! I was surprised... she even wore her goggles. She would have gone more, but I was getting tired from having to carry her (and I paid for it the next morning!). She was funny when we took off her goggles... they have a red tint to them so everything looked wierd to her! Now that James is going back to work, I'm not sure when Clara will get to ski with me again. We are going to try to get away for a weekend sometime. There is a ski area not to far from here that has a chair lift in the beginner area so maybe that will be easier.

Now, speaking about carrying a toddler... On her last birthday (in October) Clara weighed 29 lbs. I can still pick her up when I need to, but I don't like carrying her for longer periods of time. Her dad, of course, doesn't have any problem with it. So when we are together, he carries her if she doesn't want to walk. Do any of you other moms out there have the problem? Any advice would be much appreciated. Clara does fairly well walking (she even walked most of the mall on Friday AFTER skiing and NO nap!). I guess I just have to make it clear to her that I'm not going to carry her.

We have another dilema comming up this week... we have sold one of our horses and she is supposed to be leaving this week. We've had Dreamer long before I was even pregnant so she's always been there. She is the horse that Clara knows the best. One time she was watching a video with horses in it and there was one that looked like Dreamer. She said, "There's Dreamer!" I've tried telling Clara that Dreamer is going bye-bye and going to live with someone else. Clara didn't say much. I hope the worse it will get will be constant questions "Where's Dreamer?" I'm not sure I want to have Clara here when they come to pick her up. Dreamer will be going to Oklahoma (we are in Montana) so we won't be able to go visit, but we will get pictures of her. We have 5 horses now and since Clara's been born, we've only gotten more, never sold any. I hope it won't be too bad. We shall see...

Well, I guess that's it for now. I'm going to try to send in some pictures and hopefully I'll be able to get some posted.
