Kathy's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

February 18, 2003

I can’t believe another week has flown by!!! I hope everyone had a nice Valentine’s Day. We don’t really celebrate it too much other then giving cards to each other. Seth made out though. He got a stuffed Mike W. from Monsters Inc, two dollars and a Bob the Builder book from my Mom. He got a Big Dog canteen from his cousins Brenna and Kolton. We didn’t give him anything this year as we went to the Mall of America and he was able to go on all the rides instead. We did have a nice day and I was happy we were able to be together the whole day.

*Our trip to MN.*

From my beginning of my entry you may have already guessed it. We went to MN. to the Mall of America on Valentine’s Day. We were packed the night before and had hoped to leave by 5:30 A.M. well, we got up and left by 6:30 which is good considering having to pack our last minute stuff and take showers. We have gone to MN. for the past four years to see the Supercross. So this is not very new to us but, we look forward to going every year. We always have a good time. As we were heading out and had just got on the highway about ten minutes away from our home Steve asked me if I remembered the tickets. Of course I had left them behind so we had to go back home. Good thing we weren’t too far into our trip or I don’t know what we would have done. Well the rest of the trip went pretty well considering it’s a five hour drive. Seth was content in his car seat and eventually fell asleep for the last two hours of our trip. We went to The Mall first as it was about 1:30 and we couldn’t check into our hotel till later. Seth kept saying he was scared and would make his body shake. We had been telling him we were going to Snoopy as the amusement park is called Camp Snoopy. Snoopy and the other Peanuts characters are the focus of the park in the middle of the mall. They even have a cute show with a few of the characters that we did end up seeing and to my amazement Seth liked it very much and even hugged some of the dressed up characters afterwards. His fear seemed to melt right away too. He went on some of the rides with Dad and had a lot of fun. The first one he went on wasn’t his favorite as he began to cry during it. It was a hot wheels car that went around in circles. It did whip around the corner a little fast and I think this is where Seth wasn’t too thrilled about it. We asked him if he wanted to go on the car ride again and he said no. He did go on the kiddie roller coaster which he absolutely loved and like last year he sat in the front seat with Steve. He also went on a truck ride and the carousel with me. They also have a Lego area where the kids could build things with the blocks. Steve made Seth a car that he raced down this ramp with the other kids. He loved doing it and took turns really well. I think he did this for close to an hour! I hope our pictures turn out I’ll be sure to post some on Seth’s web page when they do come back. We ate at a place called Tony Roma’s for lunch. The food was really good I had a grilled chicken pasta dish with red sauce. Steve actually ordered the same and we just shared ours with Seth. I don’t rally order Seth anything separate when we go to sit down restaurants as he doesn’t eat very much and then it ends up being a waste of money. After lunch we played in an arcade place that had a bowling alley in it. We decided to take Seth bowling for the first time after we looked at it. It had bumpers that could come up and down when it was his turn. He absolutely loved it. Steve has played this game with Seth on our computer called Gutter Ball so Seth knew what bowling was already. After that was over we decided to go to our hotel to check in so we could go swimming. Seth liked swimming a lot. I liked it too it felt good after being on my feet at the mall. Then on Saturday we went back to the Mall and spent the day there doing some shopping and going on more rides. Seth got to get a very expensive motorcross jersey for the supercross. It is quite big on him so I didn’t mind getting it for him as it will most likely fit him for the next three years. I couldn’t tell him no after he said pretty pretty please Mommy in his sweet little voice either. Seth fell asleep around four and Steve went on the big roller coaster and log ride to use up the rest of our tickets and then we headed out to our next hotel which is about 20 minutes from the Mall. We ordered pizza for dinner and by the time it came and we ate it was time to go to the supercross. We had to walk approx. 5 blocks outside to get to the event which was in the Hubert H. superdome. It was a cold walk but, not too bad. Seth loved watching the races and sat still for the most part. He also loved wearing his new jersey. Around the half way point they have 5, 6& 7 year olds race on little motorcycles and Seth loved watching them and asked us to buy him a motorbikel as he calls them. Steve and I had a nice time as well. Seth was so excited that he didn’t fall asleep till after midnight! Then on Sunday we headed for home. Seth did pretty well in the car we did have to stop about three and half hours for him to stretch out because he was getting antsy. We ended up going to a Kmart and walked around for 45 minutes without realizing all that time had past. Shortly after we got back on the road Seth fell asleep and stayed asleep for the rest of the ride home.

*Seth 2 ½ year check up*

Last week Tuesday Seth had his checkup and everything looked good. Seth was even brave enough to stand on the scale by himself this time. YIPEE!!! I was happy to hear his ears were clear. He did loose two pounds since his two year check up and his Dr. seemed a little concerned about it. He did have the ear infections in the past two months and when he gets them he doesn’t eat much so it really didn’t surprise me. He has sure been making up for it as he has been eating constantly these past few days. His weight was 23 pounds and he measured 2 ft. 11 inches. The doctor told me to try and increase his calorie intake as much as I could. I have no idea on how to increase it as I don’t want to force him to eat. I do offer him pretty much anything and try to give him things with high calorie contents. Whenever he asks for a snack I don’t hold back either. I have been thinking of picking up some Pedia Sure to see if he likes it. When he does eat more I am noticing he ends up pooping it all out. I am starting to think that his weight will be fine and he will eat when he needs to. I was a stick growing up as are my sisters and Steve and his sisters were as well. I don’t think increasing his calories is going to help fatten him up. I also worry of over feeding him I don’t want him to grow up and become over weight either. So I will offer him anything and everything and I am not going to make a big deal out of trying to get him to eat more. I think he’ll eat if he needs it. Anyone else’s doctor ever tell them to try and keep the calories up? How would you go about trying to increase your 2 year olds diet? For the most part I try to give him healthy things but, I let him eat some junk food as well. I would love to hear from anyone any thoughts?

*Playing on the computer & my little extreme sports fanatic*

Seth can work the mouse on our computer!!! We have a Little People’s Airport Discovery land that he loves to play. I just have to turn it on for him and he moves the mouse and even knows how to click on things. His favorite part is feeding a dog bones or the cat its food. In order to do this he has to click on the bone or food and drag the mouse up to their mouths. He does it quite well and Steve and I were amazed he could do it all by himself. Like I mentioned above he plays a bowling game that’s actually pretty fun and I like playing it too. He also plays Daddy’s Motorcross Madness game using a joy stick to move the motorcycle on the mud and jumps. His other favorite is Tony Hawks Skateboarding game. He takes turns with daddy and does very well considering he is only 2. I think I will have an extreme teenager when he grows up! He loves all the extreme sports as well as anything that has a ball. He knows what each balls name is too! He also likes hockey. Steve took him ice skating a few weeks ago and he again loved it. When he talks about it he says “play hockey fall on my butt”. :o) It just amazes me that he can already use a mouse and does so well only being 2!!!

*Mr. Manners & the walking talking tornado*

Seth has been using his manners really good lately. He asks me for things saying please Mommy. He also has this cute pretty pretty please thing going on. It melts our hearts but, we have to be careful and not give him everything or he’ll think this is the way to get whatever he want. I have no idea where he learned the pretty please thing I have taught him the please part but, I don’t recall saying pretty pretty please to him. He also says excuse me often it’s too cute. He has even starting saying it after he sneezes or coughs. He has even started to say excuse you Mommy when I burp. What a sweet little boy he’s turning out to be. I hope it stays this way.

Just like in the title Seth has become a walking talking tornado. I can always tell where he’s been as there is always a mess to clean up. Toys everywhere I tell you. He has started to help me pick up when I ask him to but, not always.

*We finally put up Seth’s wall paper boarder*

About a week ago we finally stopped our big time procrastination and out up Seth wall paper boarder. It actually went up better then I thought it would. You see when I did the boarder in his nursery it all pretty much fell down and I had to get this special glue to fix it all. Let me tell you it was a pain. This is why I waited so long to even attempt this boarder. There is only one spot that I still have to glue but, other then that this was a much better experience then the nursery’s wallpaper boarder was. Now the only problem is we have no where to go with our computer. I would really like to get started on our basement but, knowing us it won’t happen for a while. So I guess Seth will continue to bunk in with us as I don’t want to put him back into the crib and I don’t feel it’s a good idea to let him have our computer in his bedroom at night as he loves to push buttons and I am sure he would end up screwing it up royally. If you have read in the past we have two computers that are networked together well one of them is in the nursery at the moment. We put it in so we could do the wallpaper and decided to just leave it there until we can get the room done in our basement. I still need to take pictures of the boarder but, once I do I’ll be sure to post them on Seth’s site.

(((HUGS))) & Thanks for reading.
