Kathy's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
January 2, 2003
I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday season! Ours was wonderful but extremely busy. I can't believe I haven't updated Seth's diary for almost a whole month. To tell you the truth I didn't think it had been that long until I looked at the date! I guess it's true that time does fly the older you get. I wish I could slow the clock down sometimes as I can't believe how fast Seth is growing up! He's starting to become a little boy instead of a toddler.
*Seth's speech*
Over the past weeks Seth has taken off in his speech and language development. He ask a lot of questions too. An example is if he doesn't know what something is he'll ask us for the name of it. His vocabulary has grown so much I can't get over how much he is saying every day new words and longer sentences forms in his skills. His frustration level has gone down as well as he can voice what he needs or what he wants. (not that he gets anything he asks for and yes, he still throws some tantrums) We had a two week break from speech therapy because of the holidays. We will be going back next Wednesday and are going to do another evaluation to see where Seth falls. I had suggested we go to every other week and Seth's Therapist (who by the way is just wonderful) wants to do the eval first and then we'll go from there. I know Seth's loves to see A ~( his Speech Therapist). He has been asking about her and when he does he says A has bubbles. This is one of the activities she does with Seth during his therapy. When we first get in her office eval area the first thing Seth asks for from her are her bubbles. I am not sure if I had mentioned that A has cancelled on us a few times in the past. I didn't put too much thought into it as I knew something had to have been important as she couldn't just be out sick this much without getting fired. It really didn't concern me too much as I am a very easy going person. I did think it was a little odd but, I just knew she must of had a good reason. Well, two weeks before Christmas she called because she needed to change our time that week as she had some mandatory training that fell in our time slot. She also said she would explain why she had been cancelling so much on us when we saw her. So the next day when Seth and I went A explained to me that she was in the process of going through a miscarriage. :o( I felt so bad for her and still do. I am not sure if she has any living children of her own but, I do know either way this is got to be very hard for her. My heart sure goes out to her and to anyone else out there who has had a miscarriage or lost a precious little one. I myself can not imagine how hard it has to be. I hope she will heal fast and I hope things get a little easier each day for her. It's going to be bittersweet if and when she tells me Seth isn't in need of Speech Therapy anymore because I know both Seth and I will miss her.
In my last entry I wrote about visiting the neonatal unit where Seth was for his first five weeks of his life. Well each time we have gone to ST we have visited the NICU too and I think we have seen just about every RN and some of the Neonatologists that were there when Seth was except for his full time day RN. I think each RN can ask to be assigned to what baby for what week and this particular on always picked Seth as one of her patients. I am really hoping we'll get to see her soon as she hasn't seen Seth since he was around a year old! I have left pictures so I know she has seen those but, just not in person.
*A little secret that's not really a secret*
Okay, this really is no secret I just haven't mentioned this before. If any of you followed my BT diary you will know we Co-slept with Seth until January of last year. Then we got him moved to his own room and in his crib. He always did for the most part quite well once in a while we would let him sleep with us but, not too often. He would sometimes wake up around 4A.M. and then we would just let him come in our bed. Well, since I have found out I was pregnant Seth has been sleeping in our bed again! I actually feel better with him in with us. I think it has to do with my hormones and just the fact that I had been too tired most of the time. I actually have fallen asleep with Seth on the couch and almost for the whole night! So needless to say we are Co-sleeping with Seth again. Lately I have been having what I think are dreams where I hear noises and think someone's breaking into our home even though every things always fine in the morning. These dreams are actually waking me up and it usually around 3 or 4 in the morning. I am always so glad Seth is right by me when I do wake up. I really hope the dreams go away cause they sure are freaking me out. Anyone else out there ever have these kind of dreams? I know when I was pregnant with Seth I always had vivid dreams and it's the same thing with this little one. As much as I like Seth with us we are going to try and get him to sleep on his own again. I hope both Steve and I have the willpower to do it. :o)
*Potty training*
I am going to start potty training Seth. He got a potty chair for Christmas and has sat on it twice now. He hasn't gone potty in it but, I think just sitting on it and talking about potty will get him used to the idea. I personally don't think he quite understands the whole concept or even know if he has any control yet. I figure if he goes once while he actually sitting on the potty it will click better for him. He seems to like sitting on the potty and I think if anything it will help him learn and who knows maybe I'll be surprised in his progress. If anyone with little boys out there that have went through the potty training process I would love to hear any pointers you could give me. I want to make this a very positive experience for Seth. So far we read books or I sing him a song or we just talk about his interests while he's sitting on the potty. (This includes talk about the potty as well) He has sat for about ten minutes each time and he seems to like his new potty. So each day I hope to get him on at least twice a day for now as I don't want to burn him out. I do plan on using the reward system as well ~ that is once he actually goes potty.
*Our Christmas*
We had a wonderful Christmas this year we always do. We celebrate with my side of the family on Christmas Eve. This includes my parents and two sisters their husbands and Seth's cousins. It is always at my parents house which is 25 min. away from our home. When we got there Seth wanted to open the presents right away and didn't quite understand why we had to eat and wait he got really emotional crying like we took his favorite toy away when we kept telling him not yet. He wasn't feeling the best as he had a runny nose and a cough so I think this was part of his emotions. He did end up settling down and we enjoyed a nice meal and then were able to open presents. Seth was so much fun to watch this year as he tear into one gift and see what was inside and then move on to the next. Steve and I both say it's like living our childhood all over watching Seth as he grows up and learns about life. We all had a great time with my family as we always do and left around 11P.M. Seth was so exhausted he fell asleep on the way home.
On Christmas day we woke up and went to church. We had to sneak Seth out so he didn't look at the Christmas tree as all his presents from Santa and us were waiting for him. When we got home we told Seth to go and look under our tree and when he did he yelled PRESENTS!!! He opened all of them and was able to play for a little while but, then we had to pack up and go to Steve's side of the family which was at his sisters house which is about 20 min. away from our home. (Next year it will be at our house as we switch back and forth every year). Seth did much better with the waiting on opening presents. We ate a wonderful lunch and then we opened our presents. We all got so many nice things. Seth got a lot of new toys and cloths he really liked everything he got his favorite seemed to be anything Spider man. He loved all his other toys as well. We are so blessed to have such wonderful families and we all get along just wonderful. We sure are counting our blessings.
*A ear infection*
On Christmas night when we got home we had a nice quit evening. Seth played with some of his new toys and we lit a fire and just relaxed. Shortly after we crawled into bed Seth drifted off to sleep. I was watching T.V. (Yes we have a T.V. in our bedroom) trying to unwind and slowly getting tired enough to start drifting off to sleep. Seth half wakes up and just starts a wailing cry coming from no where. I don't think he was even awake to be honest with you. I thought maybe he had a tummy ache or he had a bad dream. He did ask for some juice and I went to get him some as well as the Tylenol as I noticed a few days before one of his two year molars was pushing through. I gave him the Tylenol and put his head up more elevated under my arm. He finally settled down and went to sleep holding his juice without taking one sip from it. I knew something wasn't write so when we woke up I called the Dr. and got him in. First look in his ear and Dr. said yep it's fire engine red. :o( So he is know on Amoxicillian and is doing much better. To make matters worse Steve came down with an awful cold and we both thought he'd be at the DR's the next day. Luckily Steve felt much better on Friday. I am feeling okay and haven't caught anything like Steve or Seth had but, I am battling a sore throat that started yesterday morning. I am feeling okay otherwise just the sore throat.
*Meeting a diary writer*
Last year Katrina who writes a diary for her beautiful daughter Virginia. Which just happens to be under Seth's diary here on TT and I had planned on meeting since she comes to Wisconsin for Christmas as her Mom lives here. Unfortunately, we were unable to meet as Virginia got a stomach bug. So we kept in touch via e-mail and the boards and a few phone calls over this past year. Katrina came up here again this year and we planned on trying to meet again. Well, when Seth came down with his ear infection and Steve wasn't doing to good I thought we weren't going to meet this year either. When Katrina called on Friday and I explained about Seth and Steve and asked her if she'd rather meet somewhere else. Steve had stayed upstairs all day on Thursday and Seth was on his antibiotic for 24 hours so, Katrina decided it would be okay and said she be over in about an hour. I actually had to wake Seth up since he slept till 10A.M. this particular morning. Shortly after I had woken Seth up and had just finished getting him dressed I heard a car door and then the doorbell rang. When I opened it there was Katrina and Virginia. I welcomed them in and introduced myself and Seth since we had never met in person. As soon as they walked in it felt like a old friend that I hadn't seen in a very long time came over. I found out Katrina and I are a lot alike and we talked about all sorts of things mainly about our kids. Talking about kids, Virginia is such a doll in person and I felt like I already knew her as well. Seth and Virginia played with the toys as Katrina and I talked some more. We had a wonderful time and Katrina and Virginia stayed for almost three hours. It was great to finally meet them in person. I just loved meeting them and I am already looking forward to seeing them again next Christmas season! :o)
Happy New Year to everyone ~ I hope you all have a happy, healthy and wonderful one ahead!!!
