Ian—2 Years Old on October 15th!!
Lucy—34 Weeks Down, 6 To Go!!
Hello everyone! Happy October!! Can you believe that the summer is over and we are full into the fall season? It just blows my mind!
MY 2 YEAR OLD SON!!
I can’t believe it! Ian will be 2 years old on Friday! The time has gone by so quickly and my 9 pound 11 ounce newborn is now a 30+pound toddler who has an attitude and is slowly driving me insane.
Our days are full of running, jumping, kicking, smacking, smashing, grabbing and any other activity that involves hyperness. LOL Ian is boy, all boy, 150% boy. No getting around that. He does not sit still for 5 seconds. I love him to pieces but sometimes I’d like him to just be still. To just sit and reflect on his life. HAHA!!
We’ve had a full summer and fall of new things that he has accomplished. He can say so many words now and understands a lot of our demands, commands, etc. He has gone thru a few phases with movies and cartoons. The latest being Toy Story and Toy Story 2. He LOVES Woody and Buzz and has the occasional soft spot for Jesse. I got him the little stuffed toys from the Disney Store and I can tell you that poor Woody has been run over, kicked, stuffed into the smallest spots, thrown into the bathtub, smashed into the walls, written on, fed various food items and of course, been loved on by Ian. Buzz is no longer that brilliant white color, rather a brown/gray/blackish shade that looks like he’s also been rung thru the ringer. Jesse’s head can turn completely around like something out of The Exorcist. Her eyebrows are done and she is slowly losing her painted on eyes. He also ADORES his “baa”, i.e. Blankie that former writer Katie gave him for his birthday last year. It’s an Elmo blanket and we can go NOWHERE without it. He must have it to go to sleep and it’s like the end of the world when I have to wash it. I guess I should say WHEN I can wash it. LOL
What else? We haven’t even tried potty training. We bought the potty, but it just sits in the bathroom. He seems to dislike having a diaper on but getting him to actually sit on the potty isn’t working. In time right? He is also still in his crib. This has been a HUGE struggle lately. I’ve been working on getting him to his toddler bed but he just doesn’t want to move. I know he can sense something is going on and that is his one safe spot. I’m going to continue with it until he makes the transition. He knows that there is another bed to go night-night in, but he just plays in it. I know he’ll make the move soon enough. Just have to keep on keepin’ on.
We’re not doing anything spectacular for his birthday. My grandparents are flying in on the 13th for a week so it will just be them, me, Jim, my brother, Jim’s brother and wife, and Ian. No big #2 birthday bash. Honestly, I’m too pregnant to have to entertain anyone. At least with family here they know what they are getting. LOL We are just going to do pizza or sandwiches and I got a “Woody” cake. It looks like it will be a great day on Saturday to play outside and everyone else can chase him. We’re going to get him the Grow To Pro basketball hoop and a few other small things. My parents are getting him a tent, flashlight and sleeping sack. I know he will love that. He loves to go “nigh-nigh” in his tiny tent and tube that my parents got him. A real tent will just be great.
His 2-year check-up is on the 20th. I’m curious to see how much he weighs because this boy DOES NOT eat!! OMG…is this a phase? I certainly hope so. He is so picky! He would eat French fries for every meal if I let him. He turns his nose to everything. Everyone says he will eat when he’s hungry. I know that is true but I feel awful that he doesn’t want anything. I offer him everything we eat so at least we are still trying.
I don’t think a day goes by that I don’t count my lucky stars for having this boy in my life. He is absolute sunshine on a cloudy day and can make me smile even at his worst. This has been the most incredible 2 years of my life, as a mother, a woman and a human. I’ve learned that I would do absolutely anything for him. And that my life would be empty without him. He is perfect and loving and sweet and terrible and normal all wrapped up into one toddler. I love him to the stars and back.
I could go on and on about him but….
We will talk about LUCY!!
Let’s see…I’m 34 weeks and I am SO ready to have this baby! My last OB appointment was on the 5th. I have gained a total of 24 pounds with this pregnancy. I’m so happy about that. At this point with Ian I had gained over 30 and was pushing towards the 40-pound mark. I’ve been drinking a lot more water with this pregnancy. But the thing is that I’m craving the water. And ICE! OMG, I have to have my ice. I just crunch on it all day. I’ve tried lots of different kinds and Kroger has the best. LOL
My blood pressure was normal. 116/72 As usual. Lucy’s heartbeat sounded wonderful. She is kicking away and growing and doing great. My main complaint with this pregnancy is the awful back pain I’ve had. My sciatic nerve is killing me most days and it is so hard to walk. Ian wants to play, play, play and I just have to sit, sit, sit and moan in pain. The heating pad works wonders but I have to fight with Ian to keep control of it. So it ends up being more trouble then what it’s worth. I have bad acid reflux, just like with Ian. I live on Tums and have tried the Pepcid but it hasn’t helped so far. I bought some of the new Rolaids chewy antacids and boy they are tasty. Too tasty. Like candy I tell ya!! I’m up a lot during the night to go potty and I’ve had some rough days with constipation and (sorry..TMI coming up) hemorrhoids! I had them after I had Ian and now I’ve had them off and on for the last few months and they are really awful. I stopped taking my prenatal vitamin and went to a vitamin that had no iron in it. Then the midwife put me on fiber pills and stool softeners. They seem to be helping. Other then that, I’m feeling great. I think my belly is looking good and not as big as with Ian.
We are in the process of getting Lucy’s room ready. We are moving our “computer room” to a small section of our bedroom. We have a large master bedroom so we can get most of what we need into our room. It’s still a work in progress.
Some members of a mom’s group that I belong to threw Lucy a baby shower last week. It was nice. We had a “Thanksgiving” dinner since I’m due so close to the holiday and I am dreading not getting my feast. It was a great time and we had turkey and all the traditional fixings. It was SO yummy!! Lucy got lots of little pink dresses and we got a few gift cards and the host of the party made me an amazing scrapbook that all I have to do is stick in some photos. It is really neat. I have photos from the party and will upload them soon and post a link. I just don’t have much computer time these days.
FAMILY VISIT
As I said before, my grandparents are arriving tomorrow for a week. They are in their 80’s and I have no idea what I’m going to do with them. Just play it by ear I guess. After they leave we will have about a 2-week break until Jim’s parents arrive. Jim’s 2 cousins will also be coming to town for a conference during the same week as his parents. Then my parents will be arriving on the 15th. So, we will be busy, busy! And before too long Miss Lucy Katherine will be joining us. I know I can’t wait!!
Well, it’s past 11PM and I have a big day tomorrow. Hope you are all doing well and I’m so sorry for not keeping up with my diary. I won’t bore you with the excuses. Just know that I’m sorry and I thank each and every one of you who do read. It means a lot.
I will update after our next appointment on the 20th. Have a great rest of the week!
And HAPPY BIRTHDAY IAN!! Mommy and daddy love you SO much!!
