Kaia's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

September 8, 2003

Hello, all.

So, who else out there has problems with their mother in law? I seem to be having quite a few at the moment. Maybe someone can give me some advice...

I have been very cautious with what I feed Abigail. She has had some reactions to new foods, so I have been careful about what I introduce and when.

Well, I have been having problems with my mother in law feeding Abigail what she wants, when she wants. She will feed her nothing but ice cream all day if you let her. When Abigail was six weeks old, my mother in law fed her a 10 ounce bottle to get her to sleep! Abigail doesn't even take 10 ounces at once now and she is almost 1!!!

Anyway, this past Saturday we were at a friend's birthday party. One of the parents and I were chatting and she casually mentioned that her daughter did not like Tuna -- just as Abigail didn't. I looked at her funny and asked what she was talking about. I have not given Abigail any seafood yet. She told me that my mother in law has given it to her several times and Abigail refuses it every time!!! Can you believe it? She just feeds her whatever she wants!

I am so angry with my mother in law. My husband agrees with me that this is wrong, but we both are at a loss as to how to deal with this situation. She knows that Abigail is a sensitive eater, so why does she feel that it is her place to try new foods? I just do not get it. Can anyone give me some advice on how to deal with pushy in laws?

On a happier note, Abigail is really getting better at walking. She half walks/half crawls. I think she realizes that she gets places faster by crawling. It is funny to watch her take a step then crawl, then take a step, etc. It is very cute.

Abigail's first birthday is coming up. I am so excited. We were going to have someone dress up like elmo until we realized that she would be just as happy with balloons and cake. Besides, this party is really for the family, right? Still, I am excited to spend the day with my family.

Oops, Abigail calls.

Love,
Kaia and Abigail.
