Hello all,
I can't believe that my little baby is now 11 months old. This past week was a big one for us. Abigail took her first steps. She was holding onto the couch when she noticed me walk into the room. She, very gracefully, turned and started walking toward me. She only got two or three steps into her stroll before she fell, but, I have to say it was rather exciting. I am so proud of my little girl.
I am quite surprised by my reaction to those amazing first steps. I have recently become sad because my little baby is no longer a "snuggle baby." She is a very active, curious little toddler. I have been sadly surprised by her shift in focus from mommy and daddy to the bedroom door and how it opens and closes. But, those amazing first steps made that sadness disappear. I was so proud of Abigail for taking those steps and moving onto new phases of her life.
On to other firsts...
This week she started biting my shoulders when I pick her up. She has six teeth (4 on top, 2 on the bottom) and they are very mature teeth. Her first two teeth came in on the same day when she was just six months old. Well, now she is starting to use them more -- She chews her food and is starting to become more aware of teeth. So, whenever someone picks her up, and she gets excited, she bites down. She is not exactly aware that she is hurting people because she is so excited. I am not quite sure how to handle this -- if I need to at all. She does not quite understand "No" yet, so it's not as though I can reason with her!
I started to carry her a different way, however, she does not like that. I am hoping that she grows out of this phase. Does this sound silly? I used to think so, but now I have several bruises on my arms from her teeth marks. Is this something that even calls for discipline? I simply don't know. I just know that I feel silly for even worrying about this.
I will try again to post a picture. Maybe this time it will work.
