Jessie's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

June 25, 2001

"ET GO", is Autumn's new phrase now. She screams it at me everytime I try to hold her hend as I walk her across the driveway to my mom's house. Not to mention, she is pulling and tugging to get away. She is 14 1/2 months old, why on earth does she have to be so determined to be independent like that?

This child already knows how to strip down to nothing at the word "bath-time". Then she runs into the bathroom trying her hardest to climb in. I just know one of these days she is going to go in head first. But what can we do?

She also knows how to en the fridge and get "onie"(bologna) all on her own. Next thing I know, she'll be pouring her own juice or trying to make her a sandwhich.

She LOVES helping me wash dishes. I will put her in her high chair and let her rinse them off for me. (No, not the knives or other silverware). She thinks it is the greatest thing since "Out Of The Box" or "Elmo".

Even though I think it's great she is learning all these things, it breaks my heart, as I know she is growing into this sweet little girl, who no longer needs mommy so much. Granted she is only 15 months old (well, almost), but she is so independent at a lot of things.

She knows "get a diaper", "throw this in the trash", "get your 'goofla' and let's go to bed", "pick up your toys", "wipe your face" and so much more. When she was 11 months old she knew where her "head, eyes,
nose, mouth, belly, and toes" are. Are we teaching her too fast?

She has always mostly been around adults, so does that maybe have a part of it? I just don't want to miss out on the "baby" things. I am sure that I will be able to have these times again where she'll want to just have mommy hold her, or rub her back for her. I guess for now, she can have her little bit of indepence.
