Jessica's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

August 27, 2004

Hello. I hope everyone is enjoying this last bit of summer. I have one week left, actually less than that now. I start this Thursday with Microbiology and possibly Intro to sociology. After that I need to take Anatomy and Physiology II and Dev. Psychology. Hopefully I will have been accepted into nursing school and in three years I will be done. Piece of cake. Ha Ha.

Well, Maddie starts preschool on Sept. 14th. I am so excited for her. She's such a big girl now. We are definitely having some normal behavioral issues. I heard that age 4 can be even tougher than 3 or 2. She tells anyone who will listen, "On my birthday in December, I'm going to be four." She tells me that she has a new name and will ramble off a few letters. They are always different. She was cute tonight. She took this bath toy that was a turtle and took it to bed with her. She said, "I'm a pretend turtle and I am 41. Mr. pretend turtle will sleep on top of the covers." She put it at the very bottom corner of her bed. Sometimes she can be so sweet and loveable that I forget how difficult she can be.

Emma is just the best right now. Her vocabulary is expanding everyday. She is starting to put words together. At McDonald's today she very proudly said her first sentence: "I see baby, mommy!" She also started singing to songs today. She just learned about the moon. At first she couldn't get past that it was not the sun. But now she knows it's the moon. And says, "I see moooo mommy!" She is so feisty and happy and loveable.

I am re-doing her room. The base coat is a cream/yellow. I painted the bottom 1/3 a nice green to look like grass/rolling hills. I got the idea from pottery barn kids. They have this cute sheep bedding in the back of the recent catalogue that I have sort of copied the wall in the picture. I have put my own twist on it and am doing like a countryside mural all around the room. I'm painting sheep and cows and a little barn and a pond and a bunch of other cool little stuff. It will probably take me a while but for now I am really pleased with how it is turning out.

OKay, notice how I have waited this long to mention Emma's eating problems. I'm trying to not sound like a broken record. It is still a constant problem and days go by with hardly any solid food consumption but I am merely 2 weeks away from over appointment with the feeding team. She has an appoint with a GI doctor on Monday. And! I took her to get weighed today and she has gained 1 lb in 3 weeks! I couldn't believe it, nor do I see how it is possible but am thrilled none the less. We went to McDonalds today because she likes their fries for lunch. We went to Henning's (a fabulous grocery store with an eat-in cafe) for dinner where she loves the homeade mac-n-cheese and then Merrymeads (a local farm) for ice cream. It was a try to get Emma to eat day. Not that we don't try to get Emma to eat everyday, but we were particularly concerned since she hadn't eaten in about 2 days. She ate so much at dinner that I was amazed.

At Merrymead's the cows were out and just a few feet away from us. Emma was screaming, cow, cow, cow. She had so much fun there. They have a bunch of animals to see. I love to see her have so much fun. It's almost like she's a normal child.

As for me, I'm doing well. I've been exercising in the morning before anyone gets up. I think that is good for me. I think it will help me have the energy to deal with September with my 2 classes, Maddie's preschool and Emma's trips to CHOP. And hopefully I will feel good about myself because when I don't exercise I start to put myself down because I feel fat. Which, I do need to lose probably 15-20 lbs. But I feel like I'm trying. That's a start.

Well, I think that's it for now. Thank you for reading.

Jess
