Jessica's Diary Entries

May 10, 2004

Hello, just thought I would post a quick update on us, now that I have some answers. It has been a crazy time since I last posted. School is hard, although I got an A on both tests. We have a test on the skeleton on Monday. I have to go to the library to study for that one. They have lots of bones and a skeleton for us to look at.

Emma is sort of on a rollercoaster. She had an upper GI on last Thursday and an milkscan on Friday. The upper GI was torturous. THe worst 15 minutes ever for her. But the milkscan wasn't so bad. She was restrained for an hour but could suck her thumb and hold her blankie and watch tv. For the milkscan, Emma drank some radioactive dye and then had a continuous x-ray on her chest and belly. They were looking to see how the dye entered her stomach and if it came back up into her esophagus. That would indicate whether she had reflux. The results were positive for reflux. So, they prescribed Zantac for her. Has anyone's child ever taken that? Emma hates it. She usually doesn't give us a problem with taking medicine. But this has a peppermint flavor with a strong alcohol base. I've only given it to her once so far and she really hated it. Any strategies for getting your kids to take medicine? She has to take it 2x a day for a very long time. Hopefully it will start working for her. They say it takes about a month to really kick in. I just hope we can get her to eat. My poor girl has had this for so long and we didn't even know it.
Then yesterday she fell down at a friends house and really cut her lip. You may recall that Maddie really cut her lip badly on Thanksgiving. I am so scarred from that. It just about killed me to think I'd have to deal with that again. I was on the way to the er and decided to stop at the dr's office instead. They said she didn't need stitches. Thank God. Hopefully, it will heal nicely and won't be very noticeable.

Well, I should really be studying. Thanks for reading.

Jess
