Jessica's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

April 26, 2004

Hi, this is mostly for me, but I wanted to write this down before I forget. It will probably just sound very, very boring to you.

Today was one of the best days ever. It started out fine, I went to the gym (ran 3 miles, yay me) and then rushed home so I could babysit for my friend. Then they left. We had lunch. I put both girls to bed at 1:00, and they both went right to sleep. That's the beginning. I layed on my bed and slept for about an hour. That was so awesome. I feel like I worked very hard yesterday, so it was nice to drift off to sleep with no worries or concerns. Then I woke up, girls still asleep, and went on the computer to buy Emma new sleep sacks for the summer and fall. Then I watched some tv. A little Baby Story, a little Oprah.

Then I went up to get Emma at 4:30 (3 1/2 hour nap!!!) and snuggled with her for about 15 minutes in the rocking chair. We came downstairs and snuggled some more. She loves to sit in the crook of my arm when she wakes up. I love this time with her. Just in time for Maddie to announce she was done her nap. I usually make dinner during their naps, but we had friends over for dinner last night so I didn't feel like cooking again. I asked Maddie if she would like Annie's Macoroni and cheese or chicken nuggets and she happily said macaroni. Then she had honeydew and carrots and red peppers. Emma had macaroni and pediasure. I gave her a bunch of fruit but she didn't want it. I (best part for me) had honeydew, popcorn, and a caramello bar.

Then they had a bath, which is one of their favorite things to do. I just had fun watching them. Emma likes to eat the bubbles and splash and all that good stuff. In the background I was listening to a cd I made of my favorite songs. So then I got Emma out and put a diaper on her and rubbed some lotion of her. She is so cute. She was laughing like crazy. SO then Maddie gets out, I get her dressed.

They played in Maddie's room and then we hid under the covers in my bed. We've never done that before. I think Emma really likes it. The whole time I'm thinking, this has been the best day ever. I am so lucky that I get to be with them and watch two little girls interact with each other. Maddie just loves to make Emma laugh. And Emma wants to be like Maddie. And they love me unconditionally. They think I am this really cool, neat person. They think I am funny. To them, I am mommy. I love that. You know, not many people hold me in as high esteem as they do. Who else is going to cry when I leave the room? I had intended on taking them to the store to buy some stuff we needed but I knew they wouldn't get baths and would probably eat happy meals. Not that I offered a much better dinner. But really, I wanted to just stay home and watch them play without any timeline or agenda. We're always on the run from here or there.

Then we read our stories and they went to bed. Somewhere in there my husband called to say sorry he was late. On another night I may have been slightly annoyed he was late, but tonight I felt like I really enjoyed myself and got to be part of something special. I loved the fact that I ate a totally crappy dinner from a nutritional standpoint. I loved the fact that I took a nap and watched tv, like I may have done before my days as a mom.

Several times during writing this I have felt like maybe this is too boring. But there you go, a day in our life. A very good one. No tantrums or time outs. Everyone was happy. I am so lucky to be their mom.

Oh, this is a first. Maddie started crying so I went up to check. She said there was a ghost in her closet. Very serious. She was like, over there with long ears. She's so funny. I think I made her feel better. Somehow I don't think this will be the last ghost sighting.

Thanks for reading.

Jess
