Jessica's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

October 22, 2003

We're getting ready for Halloween! Amanda is, of course, Dora the Explorer. I love the fact that she has finally hit the age where she actually cares what she wants to be. It's fun to watch her get so excited about things. Alison will be an ice-cream cone. Amanda insisted. Since Ali doesn't care yet, we're indulging Amanda. If there were a Boots costume, then she would have been that. Being a working mommy, I certainly don't have time to try to make something. Since Amanda is so alert, I'm not sure how we are going to get the candy away from her. She knows that bait-and-switch trick and hiding it won't work. I'm not sure how we will handle it.

On the potty training front - I'm completely baffled about wha to do next. Amanda stys dry all day at school (usually), but still refuses to use the potty at home. We have tried everything from candy to toys as rewards. We got a different potty, thinking that was the problem. We leave her undressed, but still no effort. She refuses. I know that in time she will get the idea, but I want her to move up in pre-school with her friends, who are all doing wonderfully. I tried that reasoning with her, too. Not working.

Toddlers should come with a operating manual. What's with the random melt downs? She can switch moods in an instant. I do my best to stay consistent, but it's tough when I also have to deal with my 14 month old, (who, by the way, is barely surviving the pushes, shoves, and other assorted mean attacks.)

Next month Amanda will be three. Wow! The party is being planned - I'm sure there will be stories!
