Hi all!
Ok, I concede, I do have a toddler. He does the most important thing that toddler's do: falls out in the floor crying when he doesn't get his way. He isn't too bad about it in reference to anything except his pacifier and his preferred brand of sippy.
I'll start with the sippy. At 6 months we took away his bottles and exchanged them for Nuby sippy's. They have nipple like spouts and do not leak. Well, they do not leak until they are chewed up and they no longer have little slits but have big gaping holes instead. So, when we moved into our new house (yes finally), we changed him over to sippy's with a valve. He was not impressed. All you had to do was touch one of them and he would hit the floor bawling. I would sit it down on the floor and walk away from him. The first few days, I had to break down and let him have the Nuby back. Then, one day I put water in his Nuby and gave him to him, figuring if he spilled water on the new carpet, at least it wouldn't stain. He took a few drinks and tossed it across the floor. That is generally what he would do with a sippy with a valve, sling it and hard. Since then, he rarely throws too much of a fit, just hits the floor, cries til we are out of sight, then picks up the valved-sippy and drinks away. Later I found out that he had been using a valve sippy at the sitters for a long time. Gee, that smart little boy was just controlling the heck out of me wasn't he? That is the #1 reason for tantrums in our house anyway.
The number 2 tantrum comes when he isn't ready to give up his paci in the mornings or after naps and at night when he is sleepy but doesn't want to go to bed. We have managed to make that paci a sleep-only utensil and sometimes he gets disgusted when we take it away. That is grounds for a tantrum. They don't usually last until I get out of sight either but still, a tantrum none-the-less. If he happens to find one during the day and put it in his mouth, we can tell him to bring it do us and he just takes it out and hands it over, no tantrums or tears. Weird kid uh? We hope to have him off of it by Christmas but I figure with a new arrival he made need it longer and, so what if he does, he can have it, we aren't too upset as long as it is a sleep-thing.
Speaking of sleeping......the first 2 nights in our new place I didn't have sheets for his twin bed nor did we move his crib. He slept fine until he fell off the little crib mattress, then we put him in the bed with us. The third night we put him in his bed, he has been there all night every night since with the exception of his 5 AM wake-ups that puts him back in bed with me. I don't mind that, great snuggling. One of us still has to lay down with him though and we aren't fighting that too much either. I prefer to sleep with someone snuggling me up too or at least go to sleep that way, so why should that darling one year old be any different. For now, we will rock or snuggle and enjoy it. When baby #2 gets here, we will see what happens!
Moving into our place...sounds like a full-blown dream to me. We have a home, a house, a place to call our own. It truly is heavenly. Everyone seems to adjusted well and there's not much to say about it.
Talking, talking, talking. The kid never hushes. We don't understand a lot of the jabber and we do understand quite a bit too sometimes. He is a full mood kid though. If he doesn't wanna talk, all the encouraging in the world will not get you anything. When he wants to, he says lots of things. Right now, "here go" and "naw", "no" and "see" are his favorite words.
He is going through an amazing eating spurt too. Most days he is a bottom-less pit. I get concerned when he won't eat at all and concerned when he eats like he has the last week. Just amazes me how quickly they change.
Baby #2 is healthy and on his/her way. I have an anatomy scan in 2 weeks, I'll be 14 weeks then. Of course, they probably won't be able to tell gender but if not, I can have a sex only scan after that...woohoo. We definitely wanna know the sex. I'm still working on decorating Walker's room and when I'm done, I should know the sex and can work on a nursery. At my last u/s I was 10 weeks and 2 days and this bug measured 10 weeks and 6 days. Right on target to be a big babe like Walker. I will be having a planned c/s and hopefully a considerable amount of time before Christmas so Walker can have as much fun as possible. My due date is December 29th but most say I can have my c/s around the 14th. My next appointment won't be til July 7th, wait I'll be 15 weeks by then and we might can see the sex afterall...hummmmm! I hadn't realized that til just now. OH well!
Ok, I think that is about all from the Reason-front for now. I've been very negligent about updating Walker's website but I promise I will do so before my next entry. I don't have a ton of picture's but I do have a few.
Thanks to everyone for reading and responding on my TTM board (woohoo now that I have one!)
Jerri Ann, Walker and the BUG #2!
