Introduction
I have so much from the past few weeks to get you caught up on. First of all, we must go way back to December 9. That was the day of Aaron and Anne's joint birthday party. Everything went, not as planned, but well. We were late to the party and when we got there, my aunt and grandparents were not there (the party was at my aunt's house). My father had let himself in, so we were able to set up, but I did not want to start without them. Well, they finally arrived and we had a great time. The babies were too cute. Aaron and Anne both pigged out on cake. The cakes looked good. It was really nice. Anne's favorite gift was a baby she got from her great-grandma. Aaron's favorite was probably a train he received from the same grandmother. It was really great.
On to December 19, we got snow! On Monday night, Wes and I were out shopping in the rain. The next morning we wake up to find the ground covered in snow. It was amazing. It was the first good snow fall we have had since late '95 or early '96. The kids got a snow day. Kirk worked all day to make one big snow ball. It was supposed to be the beginning of a snow man, but it never made it. My sister, Melanie, worked on a snow sculpture all day and Aaron and Anne only lasted a few minutes in the snow before needing to go inside. Kirk and I went on a walk in the neighborhood and had a snow ball fight with some of the girls who ride his bus and a girl in his class, Brittany. She is his new girlfriend. Even now, on the 27th there is still some ice left over in the front yard and on the roof in shady spots.
On December 23 we took the kids to see Santa. The picture is attached. As I am sure you can tell, Kirk was the only one OK with this experience. Aaron would have been OK just standing and looking at Santa, but he wanted to have nothing to do with lap sitting and picture taking. Anne would rather have seen the doctor. Although Santa looks a bit put out in the picture, he was very gracious and kind and spoke with Kirk at length after the picture was taken and the offended parties were sped away.
Finally, Christmas Day came. Oh, what a relief. It is all over. Santa was generous. Grandma Cindy and Grandpa Cliff gave Kirk a wooden train set, for which he has been asking for three years. His expressions was priceless. We got Anne a Cabbage Patch Kid, and it received squeals of glee. Santa gave Aaron a "Tucker" robot dump truck thing. It has run into every wall in the house and gone down the stairs at least twice. My children also got lots of clothes, which works well for me. I got a great book from Wes and he got tons of DVDs. It was a very profitable year. The very best gift I got was a red clay candle holder in the shape of a wreath that Kirk made at school. It is beautiful. I nearly cried.
See you again in 2001.
