Jenna's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

February 7, 2001

Everywhere we go, Anne sees babies. What is a baby? Things with faces, mostly, but so are brightly colored patterns, flowers, and even my breasts (Anne is still nursing.) She see babies even in ugly things. At times, I've seen it, too. Somehow, the way she looks at something gives it a special beauty. We went to a sea food restaurant with Anne the other day and we ended up spending most of the wait at the lobster tank looking at the "babies." Basically, babies are things that make Anne happy. Everywhere Anne goes, she sees bright spots in the world. Isn't that amazing?
I had always wished that for just one day, I could see the world like a new baby does. Everything they see is brand new, exciting, beautiful, wonderful. Can you imagine what it would be like to discover life everyday? Why don't we see the world that way? I think the problem is not that we know it all or have seen it all. I think the problem lies in what we don't know, in what we have forgotten. We have forgotten to see "babies" everywhere we look. We don't look for the beauty in the ordinary like we used to. I vow, from this day forward, everywhere I look, I will see babies.
